Percy read the title again before pulling out his father's letter to his mother. It seemed his father had written a book with whoever Prongs was. Opening it up, he read the dedication page.
I dedicate this book to my friends, girlfriend and my unborn son. May the Maurauders legacy live on through you. Hopefully your able to follow this book and cause as much mayhem and mischief as you possibly can once you start at Hogwarts.
Signed,
PADFOOT
Another excerpt was below it written by Prongs dedicating his part in the book to his Lily flower and son.
Percy set the book to the side, deciding to explore all the book had to offer another time. He looked through a couple more books that were hidden behind the portrait finding multiple books written by his father and other weirldly named individuals. The ones that immediately caught his attention were, 'What Makes a Marauder?' by Messrs Padfoot and Moony, and, 'A Scoundrels Selection of Spells.' by Messrs Moony and Prongs.
Percy collected all his newly acquired books and left the vault in a hurry. He rejoined the professor and they both moved on to their next destination, Madam Malkins.
Of course, he was scolded the whole way.
"Never in my life have I met someone who would do something as idiotic as wear an unknown ring! You could have died and we would have never have known being stuck outside you vault! If I had any reservations on which house you'd end up in, I could now for sure rule out Ravenclaw!" Screamed Professor McGonagall as she drug a young boy by his ear down the streets of Diagon Alley. Old alumni shot him looks of sympathy as he tried to stay ahead of her to reduce the pain.
They arrived at the attire store, and after being deemed punished enough, Percy was allowed to shop for his clothes. Looking over the options he had, he realized the wizarding world wasn't the most fashionable of places. He eventually chose to go for functionality more than anything. His robes were made of acromantula silk robe with many quality of life enchantments, including charms to keep the temperature cool or warm, a mild amount of spell protection, and a sizing charm to make sure the grow with him.
All in all, it was a good day to be Madam Malkin. The amount of gold had spent would make even the richest of families balk. The professor constantly muttered about how wasteful it was and how the standard robes were perfectly fine. Percy just thought she was jealous.
Just like that they gathered everything he needed, including a large barn owl he named Francis. The last trip of the day was the one he was most excited about. Professor McGonagall allowed him to go to Ollivanders himself as she made her way to a tavern stating she needed a drink.
Percy strode into Ollivanders with purpose as he looked the shop. He looked around before reaching for a box, when a throat clearing sounded out asking him jump and turn quickly to find an old blind looking man staring him down.
"Mr.Black, what a pleasant surprise to have you in my shop. Shopping for a wand I presume?"
Percy nodded hurriedly a little weirded out by the man. His milk white eyes seemed to see through his soul. Then Percy had an alarming thought.
"How did yo-"
"Your wearing your Heir ring. One knky needs to memorize the house symbols and they'd know exactly who you are." Ollivander said as he pulled out a long measuring tape.
"Right or left-handed?" He asked as he measured arms up and down.
"Uh, right?" Percy confusaidly replied.
Ollivander gained a thoughtful expression as he started handing Percy wands.
"How about Beech with a Unicorn hair core, 9 inches and supple?"
Just as Percy grabbed the wand, it was snatched out of his hands a moment later. A couple more continued that way before something changed.
"Try this, Ebony and dragon heartstrings, 13 inches and stiff?"
As soon as his hand touched this one s.all sparks shot from the tip. Ollivander thought for a moment before saying, "We're close, I belive I know just the wand for you!"
He then pulled out a wand that was square in shape, and pure black in color. Percy grabbed it and he felt his magic sing. A bright smile appeared on his face without him knowing as he couldn't take his eyes of his wand. It was like a piece of himself had returned home.
"Interesting..." Ollivander muttered, "Dogwood with dragon heartstrings, 12 inches and quite rigid. Reminds me of a pair of twins that I helped a couple years ago. Hopefully, you becomes as interesting as they are."
Percy not knowing what the old man was talking about just nodded and paid him. Seeing as all his shopping as completed, Professor McGonagall escorted Percy back to the orphanage he was staying in. He sighed at being back home, feeling like everything from today was a dream that had just cruelly ended.
Nothing was wrong, persay, it was just the muggle world in general. How do you go from the most magical place you've ever seen to its dull counterpart without becoming depressed.
As Percy stayed up in his bed, he determined he would finish all of his father's books before he returned for the school year. He'd noticed multiple instances where his father was nothing like the raving lunatic people portrayed him as. He felt in his gut something was up he just dodnt knwo what it was. Closing , 'A Purebloods Guide to Mishief', he drifted off to sleep dreaming of animals frolicking in a field.
Months passed, and know Percy was sitting on the train to Hogwarts. He had finished his self assigned summer reading, and appreciated the new outlook on life it brought him.
"Pranking in the name of justice, huh?" He chucked to himself at Prongs little excerpt. The books had gone over how back when. They were inschool, everything was bleak due to the war. New murders appeared in the paper daily, peoples families turned upside down. Slytherins did what they did best, and used the situation to their benefit. They lorded over the other houses and enforced their pureblodd dogma.
Then a beacon appeared in the forms of four Gryffindors. Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs started the greatest series of pranks ever achieved onto the Hogwarts population. Soon enough they brought laughter back to the people, and put the Slytherins back in there slimy place.
Percy couldn't wait to join the house of the brave and continue their proud legacy. His mind wandered as he watch students pile into the train. Luckily, 'Scoundrels Selection of Spells', has a wide variety of interesting spells they don't teach to little firsties, including the locking charm. Quite convenient if one wants to be left alone.
Something else caught his attention, as another spell from his book popped into his head. An evil smirk appeared on his face as he undid the locking charm and made his way to the back of the train where he saw his mark enter the train.
There stood another first-year who was holding a toad. He nervously glanced around in apprehension as if someone would attack him. Honestly, Percy felt bad for him. Of course he wasn't the target, the frizzy haired girl next to him was Percy's goal. She looked to be lecturing the poor boy earlier and hadn't stopped until now.
Percy pointed his wand at the girl and whispered the incantation, a yellow spell shot out and faded into the girl with no one being the wiser. Seconds later, strands of her hair started standing straight up one by one. Eventually, she looked as if she'd rode on a plane with the window down. She must not have noticed because she hadn't stopped talking the entire time even as they passed people giggling and giving them strange looks.
The perfect part of the prank was that even though the boy with her noticed what had happened he didn't have the courage to interrupted her. Percy dove into a nearby carriage laughing his head off, not noticing two boys staring at him in confusion.
They peeked out the carriage to see what was so funny, and immediately dove back in to join in the laughter.
"I say Forge, I like this kids style!" The one on the right said.
The one on the left wiped a tear from his eye and said, "couldn't agree more Gred!"
It was then that Percy finally took notice of the company he had in the room.
"Uh, hi. Nice to meet you, the names Percy." He said in greeting.
"I'm Fred and he's George" The one on the right, Fred, said, before the one on the left continued, "We saw your little stunt in there-"
"Pranks on his first day-"
"Bad form if the teachers found out."
They both looked each other before they each sported a devilish grin saying in unison, "We want all the details!"
Percy shot them a similar grin and a fast friendship was born. A shudder ran down each Hogwarts teachers spine as a bad premonition was felt all around.
