Ch9. Testing 1

Rei teleported to the sixth floor, hurriedly entering the Amphitheater where he instantly spotted Momonga talking to Aura and Mare. Noticing that Solution was not yet there, Rei decided to approach them.

"Yo, about to do some combat tests, Momonga?" Rei called out to Momonga who turned towards him.

"Ah, yes, Rei. I wanted to test some spells." He answered and Rei nodded in a complete understanding. Both of them could be classified as spell casters so he knew exactly how Momonga felt. He was also itching to test some spells. "Anyway, meet Aura and Mare." Momonga gestured at the two dark elven children next to him.

"Welcome to the sixth floor, Lord Rei!" Aura excitedly greeted, putting her right hand on her heart.

"We-welcome!" And Mare instantly followed her with a small stutter.

Rei... found the twins a bit disturbing. Male wearing a female uniform with a skirt and a female wearing male clothes. Not for the first time did he curse Bukubukuchagama for being a pervert. For the amount of time she spent berating her brother Peroronchino, she had her own disturbing list of fetishes and Rei thought it would be best to stay as far away from these two siblings as possible.

Naturally, that didn't really happen considering they eventually became great friends and Rei suffered for it greatly. The amount of disturbing perverted information his poor mind was introduced to was staggering. He was to this day quite traumatized...

Subtly taking a step back from the two dark elves, Rei acknowledged their greeting with a nod. He was quite afraid of coming closer to them though. They were, after all, created by that perverted gal who voiced 60% of the new hentai during the past few years. Who knew what kind of flavor text these two dark elves had.

'Don't go there, brain...' Rei scolded himself.

Fortunately for him, that was when Solution arrived, giving him an excuse to leave, "Ah, I am going to do some testing by myself with Solution on the right side of the colosseum. Are you fine with having only the left side for yourself, Momo-chan?" Rei asked.

Momonga lifted his eyebrow and slowly nodded, "You don't mind me watching? You never really showed Solution's full potential to anyone, guarding her as if she was the most precious thing."

Rei could see Solution who was walking towards them stiffen when she overheard what Momonga said and the happiness she started to exclude with her body language was almost palpable in the air.

Half-heartedly glaring at Momonga, Rei had to admit he deserved that for the stunt he pulled with Albedo earlier. 'Well played, Momo-chan. Well played.' Rei acknowledged as he shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "We are not going to test anything strenuous. You won't see anything I would deem secret. I don't really want to cast high-tier magic inside of Nazarick, you know?" Both Rei and Momonga shuddered at that image. Nazarick was still their home and high-tier magic could mess it up pretty well if one cast such a spell inside.

Acknowledging Rei's point, Momonga decided to go and do his tests on the left side of the colosseum while Rei turned towards Solution who instantly gave him a slight bow, "I am here as requested, Master."

Rei barely managed to stop himself from showing how unnerved he was. Solution was the perfect picture of a maid. She was calmly awaiting orders as she stood in front of Rei, perfectly straight, showing her womanly charm for everyone to see.

Despite this feigned calmness, Rei's newly acquired ability to notice small details in people instantly told him that this was a facade. Solution's eyes told a very different story. The sheer amount of happiness they excluded as they landed on him was something that almost made Rei's breath hitch and made him feel he didn't really deserve to be showered in such adoration and devotion.

'Now I know how Momonga feels when in Albedo's company.' Rei awkwardly thought, feeling quite inadequate. 'At least she can hide it well in her capacity as maid. Thanks for the small mercies. I have no idea what would I do if she acted like Albedo.'

"Hello, Solution." Rei channeled all the charm he acquired during his time as an investor and ignored his inner feelings as he spoke in fake confidence, "I called you here because I wanted to speak with you and do some tests with low-level spells. You wouldn't mind helping me with that, would you?"

Solution's eyes happily gleamed as she answered, "I will gladly help you, Master."

"Ah," Rei awkwardly scratched his cheek, "Relax a bit and feel free to call me Rei. 'Master this, Master that' will get old really fast."

"Understood, Rei-sama." Solution calmly acknowledged the order but Rei noted how the tone of her voice was a bit higher than usual.

'This ability to notice these small tells of people is starting to be really, really weird.' He exasperatedly noted.

"I will need you to summon a Wraith Lord." Rei said, and Solution nodded, immediately silently casting the spell thanks to one of her Metamagical abilities, the Silent Casting.

A blob of black goo appeared on the ground near Solution and sprang upwards until it reached the height of two meters before bursting like a bubble, leaving in its place an ethereal figure clad in ghastly black armor with eyes full of hate for the living.

Rei had to admit it was kinda scary, seeing the mob in the real life. Especially the summoning was creepy.

A Wraith Lord was a level fifty-five mob that wasn't particularly strong but one of its advantages was its above-average magical resistance. It was a natural enemy of casters while they leveled.

This magical resistance was why Rei asked for this particular mob. This way, his target would last a bit longer than usual despite being only a low-level mob.

"Is it summoned permanently or is there a time limit?" Rei asked Solution, knowing from his fore-knowledge that if one was summoned using a corpse, it would be summoned permanently. He simply wanted to know if Solution had an inkling or if she was as clueless as him.

Unfortunately, "I have no idea, Rei-sama." Solution replied a bit sadly, "I can, however, summon another Wraith Lord and test how long it would last."

"No need." Rei dismissed her offer, knowing that there probably will be a time limit considering there was no corpse used for the summoning. "We can leave that to Momonga. He is the necromancer here. Let him pull his weight." He loudly quipped as he could feel Momonga's eyes boring into his back the second Solution summoned an undead creature.

Unexpectedly, Solution actually slightly smiled at the suggestion before nodding and Rei snickered when he saw Momonga almost trip. 'Ha! Serves him right for eavesdropping.' He snorted.

Rei understood Momonga's interest. The man had no idea Solution could summon the undead. Honestly... this was one of her spells that Rei had her seldom use during the two years he was making her build. It wasn't really a secret. Just a bit useless considering she was not a necromancer nor did she focus on necromantic magic in her build.

The only reason why Solution could do necromancy was one of her job classes, the Cursed Paladin class.
