Chapter 122: Invite Enel

Enel was infuriated by Byakuya's dismissive attitude. He completely abandoned any thought of questioning him and focused solely on turning his opponent into a charred corpse. 

With a low growl, Enel commanded, "60 Million Volts Thunder Dragon!" 

He struck the golden staff in his hand against the drums on his shoulders, summoning seemingly endless lightning from them.

Lightning converged to form a hundreds-meter-long Thunder Dragon coiling within the palace. 

The dragon's appearance instantly lit up half the palace as if it were daylight, making it impossible to look directly at. 

The terrifyingly powerful Thunder Dragon charged at Byakuya, and the lightning it emitted as it moved left craters on the ground. The intense heat melted the golden floor into a liquid state.

Watching this, Byakuya couldn't help but feel curious. He wondered how Luffy managed to defeat Enel, a user of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, without Haki. 

It's common knowledge that rubber doesn't conduct electricity, which makes sense. 

However, the high voltage generated by lightning should produce heat that even rubber can't withstand. 

However, this wasn't depicted in the original anime. After some thought, Byakuya could only chalk it up to the "protagonist's aura."

With a simple thought, Byakuya sent two black flashes streaking through the air. 

These flashes darted through the Thunder Dragon's body, tearing it to pieces in seconds. 

The black flashes were two stones made of Seastone, the only ones Byakuya carried. 

As a Rumble-Rumble Fruit user, he chose not to use iron balls because Enel could generate powerful magnetic fields that would interfere with iron. 

Byakuya didn't want to cover the iron balls with Armament Haki, so he used Seastone instead.

Enel was surprised to see his Thunder Dragon torn apart and the two black orbs floating before him. 

He hadn't expected his strongest attack to be neutralized so easily. 

Although Enel was impressed by the mysterious figure's strength, he felt no fear. 

He knew that ordinary attacks couldn't hit him, so he believed himself invincible. Why would he be afraid?

With his head held high, Enel arrogantly declared, "Since you can defeat my Thunder Dragon, it proves you're strong. 

I can make you the head of my priests if you agree to follow my orders. But if you don't, you'll end up as nothing more than a charred corpse."

Byakuya was momentarily stunned by Enel's boastful words. 

This guy had just stolen his line! Byakuya had come to Skypiea intending to recruit Enel as his subordinate, not the other way around. 

This Enel was still far weaker than the one Luffy would encounter a year later. Byakuya felt it was his duty to help Enel realize his current situation.

With a cold smile, Byakuya replied, "I'll give you two choices: either become my subordinate, or I'll beat you to death. Take your pick." 

As soon as the words left his mouth, the two black orbs shot toward Enel like streaks of black light. 

Enel made no move to dodge; he just stood there, ready to take the attack head-on.

Byakuya was shocked by Enel's behaviour. Was this guy asking for a beating? He didn't even try to dodge. 

To avoid killing Enel outright, Byakuya ensured the black orbs didn't aim for any vital areas. 

Little did Byakuya know that Enel didn't have time to dodge. 

The speed of the orbs was near the speed of light, far too fast for an ordinary person's mind to process.

Moreover, since encountering Byakuya, Enel's prized "Mantra" had been rendered useless. 

He couldn't sense Byakuya's attacks at all. Having spent years on Skypiea with virtually no combat experience, Enel needed to learn how to handle this situation. 

So he stood there, frozen, allowing Byakuya's attack to hit him.

Despite this, Enel wasn't too worried. He believed his body was different from ordinary people's and didn't need to fear such ordinary attacks. 

But when the black orbs touched Enel's body, his expression quickly turned to panic. 

The two orbs passed through his shoulders, leaving behind a trail of crimson blood and shattered bone fragments.

The black orbs had pierced Enel's body and destroyed the three drums behind him that were used to amplify his abilities. 

Enel coughed up blood in disbelief, muttering, "How... how could this happen?" 

Under his mask, Byakuya sighed as he watched Enel's dumbfounded expression. 

"Is this guy really worth bringing into the organization?" he wondered. 

However, even if Enel refused, killing him would alter the storyline, allowing Byakuya to gain a significant amount of World Energy.

Moreover, God's Palace was filled with gold that could be exchanged for a massive amount of Berries, which could be used to purchase Devil Fruits. 

Additionally, there was a Poneglyph on Skypiea, which could be converted into World Energy. 

Byakuya realized that this trip to Skypiea would be worth it no matter what happened. 

Standing still, Byakuya calmly asked, "So, have you made up your mind? Will you become my subordinate, or will you die?" 

The two black orbs hovered menacingly in front of Enel once again.

Enel, still defiant, retorted, "A god like me would never serve anyone!" As he spoke, he attempted to summon more lightning to attack Byakuya. 

Unfortunately, the two black orbs instantly pierced his palms as the lightning began to crackle in his hands. 

The pain was accompanied by a wave of weakness that spread throughout his body—an effect of the Seastone on Devil Fruit users. 

Enel gritted his teeth, trying to summon his powers again, but it was as if his Devil Fruit abilities had been completely nullified. 

Without them, Enel was no different from an ordinary person. Byakuya continued, "I'll ask you one more time: submit or die?" 

This was the first time since gaining his Devil Fruit powers that Enel had felt such a clear and present danger of death. 

With his pride and arrogance clashing against the looming threat of death, Enel was torn. 

He didn't want to submit, but he knew that refusal would only lead to his demise. Faced with this dilemma, Enel hesitated.

As Byakuya grew impatient, the black orbs before Enel moved slightly as if ready to strike. 

Suddenly, Enel asked, "What benefits would there be if I chose to submit to you?" 

Oh, this one's got some pride, Byakuya thought, recognizing Enel's stubbornness. 

It was clear that Enel didn't want to die, but his arrogance prevented him from openly submitting. 

So, instead, he asked what benefits submission might bring. 

Byakuya, understanding Enel's mindset, smirked and replied, "There are many benefits to submitting to me."

"First, you'll get to keep your life. Second, I can help you become even stronger. And finally, I won't stop you from challenging me once you've grown stronger. In fact, I look forward to that day." 

Byakuya knew exactly how to deal with someone like Enel. 

Without giving Enel more time to think, Byakuya tossed him a black robe that symbolized his new status. 

"Since you've chosen to join the 'Night' organization, I'll let you keep this palace. But first, you need to take me somewhere."

Under Enel's guidance, Byakuya found the Poneglyph.

"Wait, shouldn't this be worth 3,000 points?" Byakuya noticed the difference when comparing it to the one in the Alabasta Kingdom. 

The Poneglyph in Alabasta was an informational Poneglyph, which made it more valuable at 3,000 points. 

The one before him contained only trivial information, hence its lower value of 1,000 points. Still, Byakuya wasn't going to complain. 

"Even a small gain is still a gain," he thought as he stored the Poneglyph in his system space. 

He decided not to recycle it immediately but to show it to Robin before returning to the Blue Sea. 

It would only take a little time and would earn him Robin's loyalty, so why not?

Though this was only about a third of what he had earned in Alabasta, Byakuya was not dissatisfied. 

After all, he hadn't killed anyone on Skypiea; he had only recruited Enel, which didn't cause significant changes in the storyline. 

Moreover, it had taken only half a day. He would welcome them if he could pull off more situations like this.

Byakuya also considered that Skypiea could serve as the base for the 'Night' organization. 

It was well hidden, and few people knew of its existence, making it an ideal location for a secret base.

After finishing everything, Byakuya was ready to leave Skypiea. However, he didn't bring Enel down with him. 

Instead, he instructed Enel to stay on Skypiea and continue ruling over it. 

"Soon, other members of 'Night' may arrive on Skypiea. They will teach you how to use Haki then."

"Haki?" This was the first time Enel had heard of it.

Byakuya explained, "It's what you call 'Mantra.' In the Blue Sea, it's commonly known as Kenbunshoku/Observation Haki, which allows one to sense an enemy's attacks."

Enel was surprised. "Is Mantra common in the Blue Sea?"

"Well, no. Mantra isn't common because it's a combination of Kenbunshoku Haki and your Goro Goro no Mi abilities," Byakuya replied.

"Can you use Mantra?" Enel asked, a hint of pride creeping into his voice.

Byakuya shook his head. Seeing this, Enel smiled smugly, thinking that while Byakuya might be strong, he still lacked in some areas compared to himself. 

Byakuya noticed Enel's smugness but said nothing. Let the child have some confidence, he thought. 

Although Byakuya didn't know what ability would be triggered by maxing out Kenbunshoku Haki, he was certain it would be at least as powerful as Mantra. 

He could instantly increase it if he wanted to—it was just a matter of thought.

Byakuya continued, "The Goro Goro no Mi you consumed is a Logia-type Devil Fruit, making you immune to most physical attacks."

"But..." Enel's mind flashed back to the terrifying black orbs. Even now, his shoulders and palms still throbbed with pain. 

Byakuya could tell what Enel wanted to ask.

"But Logia-type fruits aren't completely invincible. There are two main ways to harm someone like you." 

"The first is through Haki, which, when mastered to a certain extent, can bypass a Logia user's intangibility and cause harm." 

"The second is the method I used. As Devil Fruit users can't swim, Seastone is the essence of the sea—drains their strength upon contact."

"So, when you eventually reach the Blue Sea, you'll encounter many people capable of hurting you." 

"If you keep believing that you're an invincible god, someone will eventually kill you."

Instead of fear, Enel felt a rare thrill at Byakuya's words. The years of ruling Skypiea had made his invincibility dull and lonely.

But now, there were new challenges—both the formidable Byakuya, who had easily defeated him and the powerful figures in the Blue Sea that Byakuya mentioned.

These were all challenges to him. Naturally, Byakuya was at the top of that list, the final boss to be defeated.

"The members of the 'Night' organization who come up here will be easily recognizable by their uniforms," Byakuya said, pointing to his own. 

"They may not be as strong as you, but in other ways, they're far beyond your capabilities. So, if you dare attack them, I'll kill you on the spot."

Byakuya wasn't making empty threats. 

Given Enel's current strength, only Lucci could stand against him, while the others were significantly weaker. 

If Byakuya didn't make things clear to Enel now, and Enel ended up killing Robin or the others, it would be a disaster. 

Better to state things plainly now and avoid any problems.

Enel, however, didn't seem concerned by Byakuya's warning and laughed, "Don't worry, I have no interest in weaklings."

Byakuya nodded. "That's good. I hope you become strong enough by the next time we meet."

"I'll defeat you one day!" Enel called out as he watched Byakuya's retreating figure. 

Though he had joined the 'Night' organization under Byakuya's pressure today, it wasn't necessarily bad for him. 

At the very least, he had now learned to become even stronger.
