Cavendish stood frozen, unable to move, sweat dripping from his forehead.
More than a dozen sharp swords flying around him, targeting his vital points.
A sword had already pierced his throat, blood trickling from the wound.
"Just calm down and we can talk if you have something to say," Cavendish panicked, waving his hands frantically.
.
"You attacked me without warning, so you should be prepared to die, right?" Lucifer smirked, slowly approaching Cavendish.
It was only then that he realized that the person in front of him was not ordinary, but a monstrously strong individual.
"The pirate world is brutal. If you lose, you can only expect death," Lucifer continued, preparing to strike as the sword come closer to Cavendish's throat.
"Wait, please! It's a misunderstanding! It was Hakuba, not me! I had nothing to do with it!" Cavendish shouted in a panic. "I'm innocent!"
Cavendish was on the verge of tears, realizing he had been dragged into trouble once again by Hakuba. This time, he had angered a monster.
Cavendish desperately wanted to speak his mind, to tell Lucifer to understood his frustration. But he knew better to keep silent .
Instead, he forced a bitter smile. "So what now? Is there any chance for me?"
"Yes," Lucifer replied unexpectedly, causing Cavendish to feel a glimmer of hope.
"My pirate crew has just been formed, and I am in dire need of some subordinates..."
Before Lucifer could finish his sentence, Cavendish eagerly interrupted. "I, I, I am willing to join your crew! I will be your subordinate!"
"There's no need to force yourself. I never liked pressuring others," Lucifer replied calmly.
"No, no, no! It's an honor for me to serve as your subordinate," Cavendish quickly responded. "I feel like I was born to serve you. Please don't hesitate to give me any orders, Captain Lucifer!"
Cavendish's words were mixed with a hint of desperation as he fought back tears, forcing a smile that twisted his face even more than Hakuba's expressions.
He had no other choice. If he rejectLucifer proposal ,Cavendish knew he would most likely die that night.
Damn it, why did I come to Crescent Island in the first place? Cavendish regretted leaving his country and venturing into the chaos of the Grand Line.
"Yes, you're showing some great commitment. I am in need of talents like you," Lucifer said approvingly. "Since you're willing to join, I will spare your life."
With a flick of Lucifer's finger, the floating swords dropped to the ground.
"Thank you, Captain! I will serve you wholeheartedly in the future," Cavendish breathed a sigh of relief.
Of course, Lucifer had no idea what was going on in Cavendish's mind.
However, Lucifer wasn't concerned about potential betrayal from Cavendish. After all, his strength far surpassed Cavendish's.
Cavendish was a clever individual who knew what was best for him.
"Let's go. Too many lives have been lost here, and the air reeks of death. Let's find another place to spend the night," Lucifer said, turn and start walking away.
"Too many dead?" Cavendish looked at the corpses lying beneath his feet, feeling somewhat speechless.
"That's nothing compared to what you've done. You've killed far more people, and your methods are much more ruthless," Cavendish muttered to himself.
"Why are you standing there? Are you planning to sneak away?" Lucifer's voice echoed from a distance.
"Where do you think I'm going? Captain, how dare I leave you ?" Cavendish hurriedly followed.
Soon, the two disappeared into the night, with no one paying any attention to the dead pirates.
Crescent Island Town was chaotic, with death being a common occurrence, especially nowadays .
...
The next morning, sunlight flowed through the window and illuminated Lucifer's bed.
Lucifer opened his eyes and woke up from his slumber.
He got out of bed, walked to the window, and stretched, the cracking of his bones filling the room.
Knock, knock, knock.
"Captain, are you awake? Breakfast is ready," Cavendish's voice came from outside.
"Come in," Lucifer replied.
Cavendish entered the room, followed by a few maids pushing a beautifully prepared breakfast.
"Captain Lucifer, this is a marvelous breakfast I have prepared. Please enjoy it," Cavendish said with a slight bow.
Looking at the maids and the luxurious breakfast, Lucifer couldn't help but think that Cavendish truly lived a different life, befitting a prince.
