Chapter Ten : Win or Win

Claire and the brunette girl shifted into their wolf forms. The intense fight began. The spirit of the fight was encrusting the whole arena.

The unsolved mystery that everyone seemed to know was still encircling my mind. If the other packs were fighting to have the position of the luna in our pack, then there had to be a significance.

The loud cheering was piercing through my ear drums, hitting my vestibules so hard, making me lose my equilibrium.

The ruthless, crude blows of claire were making lethal injuries on the other wolf's body. The brunette was retaliating not wasting a second. The crowds were cheering from both sides. My state of dizziness made me fall back on my knees. Ed struggled to come to me, he panicked but he was impeded by the chains. On the other side Alex was standing beside me confounded.

"Are you okay?" he quickly sat beside me worrying. "What happened? Are you feeling unwell? I can take you to the Alpha's room till the fight ends, you can rest there, " he said. Panic was written all over his face.

"No, I'm fine. Don't worry. It's pretty normal in time like this?" I replied. I didn’t want Ed out of my sight anymore.

"You don't look well. You need rest. Let me take you," Alex said.

He helped me to get up and carried me in a bridal style.

"Hey, put me down!" I shouted a bit.

Alex ignored my struggles and started walking while carrying me. The intensity of the heated fight through the arena almost hypnotised everyone. Like an invisible spirit he came to the exit. I could only see the the glimpses of Edward struggling under the guard.

"Where do you think you are taking her?" A cold voice came from behind.

Alex turned to come face to face with Zen.

"She needs rest," Alex replied. "Taking her to your room. You do not need to make any negative intuitions."

"She is needed here. She can't leave," Zen said with a serene yet cold expression on his face.

"She can come back. Besides your mate is dying out there. Why don't you put more care on that?" Alex asked mockingly. Without giving him a chance to comeback with a reply Alex left with me. He brought me back to a huge room.

He placed me carefully on the king sized bed. He softly touched my hands which were rested on my thighs. He bent on his knees beside me.

"You feel better? " he asked.

"I was perfectly fine out there. I need to go. I told you it is normal. You didn’t have to bring me here," I said forcefully but my weakness was clearly visible.

I tried to get up but fell on the bed again. Alex swiftly responded by placing his hands on my back making sure I didn’t get hurt.

"You are not well. What happened to you?" Alex asked worryingly.

I looked into his eyes and sighed. I needed to tell him. I needed his help. Only he could help me to run away from this pack. He still cared for me. I felt a bit of hope. I decided to take the chance.

"Pregnancy happened," I sighed and replied.

He was sitting there speechless, looking into my eyes in disbelief. For a few seconds he was paused.

"What?" he hastily got up moving away his hands from mine.

"I am a married woman, Alex. Get the point. I can't stay here. I can't let them hurt Edward. It is too late for playing hide and seek over feelings," I tried to convince him.

"Alex, look. I know I hurt a lot of people by running away. I hurt your feelings. But whatever happened in the past is gone. You need to help me. I know you care about me. You are not like," I couldn’t finish my sentence.

"Stop!" Alex said sharply. He placed his hand over his eyes and slowly raising it to his forehead, moving away the silky long hairs out of his forehead. He took a deep breath and continued, "Not like what? Zen? Not selfish like Zen? You think I still like you? Still mourning over our bonds? And I will just simply help you to get out of this pack with your lover? Your baby's father? " He looked at my abdomen and said, "Not gonna happen. You have to serve for what you did," he said and left the room angrily.

I was left there speechless. My only hope of escape was gone. I could never thought Alex would be genuine about what he did in that morning before I ran away.

A beauty like him who was desired by both men and women, creating charms greater than even women captivating the world, those careless and arrogance filled eyes that never fell for anything and anyone in the world, would ever be serious about me. It felt like some unbelievable fairytale that had no pretty ending.

I came back to the gallery again. Claire had the brunette pinned down on the ground, trying to rip off her throat. Countless fresh marks of cuts were visible on her back ripped open with blood coming out from them. The brunette's wolf was looking exhausted. It was trying to get out of the grasp of Claire.

The whole arena was silent. Everyone knew what was going to happen. The brunette was out of breath. She was losing her consciousness. Suddenly Claire did something unexpected. She let go of the wolf beneath her and shifted back into her original form.

Her external wounds were healing quickly. The brunette shifted back as well by looking at her confused.

Everyone for a moment thought Claire would not take the very step of killing. Claire was literally the winner of the fight. But she might have decided to show mercy. The brunette tried to get up slowly.

"It was a great fight,'' the brunette said. She was panting exhaustedly. Her wounds were more severe and deeper. It was taking time to heal. She continued, " You really are the deserved Luna and the mate of the War commander, Claire. Thank-" she couldn’t get to finish her sentence.

Everyone was shocked. So was the brunette. Her eyes were coming out of her orbits in shock, her parted mouth spurted blood.

Clair's left hand was shifted into a wolf's claw piercing right through the jugular of the brunette.

Everyone got up in their places. The brunette's dead body soon fell on the ground. Claire shifted back her hand and slightly licked the blood off from the participant's locket of the brunette that she ripped from her neck.

"Win and live. Because a loser doesn’t deserve to live," she said while looking at the corpse of the girl.
