The next day, the morning sun streamed through the tall windows of the empty meeting hall, casting long shadows across the polished oak table. Evelyn sat at one end, her laptop open in front of her, displaying the progress charts of their latest project. Across from her, Archie, the CEO, leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled as he pondered the next steps.
Archie had taken over the role of CEO after his father's untimely death in a tragic accident that had also claimed Evelyn's mother. The bond between Evelyn and Archie had been forged in the fires of shared loss. Following the accident, Evelyn had insisted that Archie stay with her family, supported by her father, James. From that day forward, they had been inseparable, with Evelyn becoming everything to Archie—a pillar of strength in his personal, academic, and professional life.
Despite her public role, Evelyn's life was complex. After leaving Deeps Island, she had worked tirelessly for both Lav Enterprise and her clandestine black market operations. While publicly Davis Corporation was managed by Brian, Evelyn's trusted confidant, no decision was made without her approval. She ensured that the reins of her corporation remained firmly in her hands, always mindful of the dangers that lurked in her shadowy dealings.
Evelyn broke the silence, her voice clear and steady. "Archie, I wanted to touch base about our current project. We've made good progress, but I think we're hitting a point where we need additional expertise, especially in software development. What's your take on this?"
Archie nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I completely agree, Eve. We've done a solid job with the initial stages, but to move forward efficiently, we need someone with a strong background in software development. Have you thought about how we might find the right partner?"
Evelyn leaned forward, her fingers lightly tapping the table. "Yes, I've been considering a few options. We could reach out to some of our industry contacts and see if they can recommend someone. What do you think?"
Archie shifted in his seat, his eyes meeting Evelyn's. "That's a good idea. Tapping into our network could yield someone with a known track record, which is always reassuring. On the other hand, using professional platforms might give us access to a wider range of candidates."
Evelyn nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Agreed. Maybe we start by reaching out to our contacts first. We can compile a list of potential partners."
"That sounds like a plan," Archie said, a hint of relief in his voice. "I'll start drafting an email to our contacts, outlining what we're looking for in a partner. Let's make sure we clearly define the scope of work."
"Sure," Evelyn replied, her tone resolute.
Archie's eyes lit up with renewed determination. "Sounds good."
Evelyn agreed, closing her laptop and standing up. "I'll keep you updated on the postings and any initial responses we get. Hopefully, we'll find the right partner soon and keep the project on track."
"Agreed," Archie said, rising from his chair.
As they walked out of the hall, Evelyn nudged Archie with her elbow, a teasing smile on her lips. "By the way, I heard from someone that you've got a date tonight?"
Archie turned slightly, a proud smile spreading across his face. "Yes, tonight at 8 I'll pick my date for dinner."
"What are you going to wear?" Evelyn asked. "Please just wear what she bought you this weekend."
"Of course, I'll only choose that one. I want to sleep peacefully tonight," Archie replied instantly.
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh. "God, why are you so scared of her? She won't eat you?"
"Eve, believe me, she can do worse if I anger her," Archie replied.
"God, I just don't get you and your fear of Zoe."
"Forget about me. Tell me where you are taking your date?" Archie asked back.
Evelyn rolled her eyes. "Wyat wants something local. Completely opposite of your princess daughter."
