End of a pleasant scent

The time ceased for a moment and he held his breath. He lost the track of time and couldn't realize how long he walked inside that left branch of the cave, half an hour or so.

He sat, touching the ragged edges to notice if he could continue that path. He felt the step on the right side. They were unstable and could fall apart as he stepped on them.

It was the end of a pleasant scent. He listened to the wind and let his lungs absorb it. It was frizzing and he had only two ways. He could return to that cave and go to the stinky path that might reach a forest and a marsh or this way.

Lowering his head, he squeezed his eyelids.

He opened his eyes and the darkness got a grayer shade. He could see the shapes but they were blurry.

He continued touching around and caught a piece of stick. That could help him too much.

He swallowed a pack of air and descended the stairs, carefully.
