Chapter 9

Chapter 9: Demon Academy

There are three powerful forces in Yulin. The Forces of Justice, or Yulin Alliance, is the faction where the righteous clans of Yulin gather under one roof. Below this are numerous clans and sects that oversee the central plain. These include the Shaolin Temple, Beggar's Association, Wudang Sect, Mount Hua Sect, Mount Kunlun Sect, Emei Sect, Kong-Tong Sect, Dian Cang Sect, Qincheng Sect, Namgung Noble Clan, Tang/Dang Family, Moyong/Murong Noble Clan, Habuk Peng Family, Jinju Yeon Family, Zhuge/Jaegal Family, Mudan Clan, Hwangshan Clan, Four Skies Clan, Zhongnan Sect, Hwang Bo Clan, Yi Family/Justice(Sa) Clan. Led by Yi Mok, the North Justice Blade and one of the Five Strongest, they reigned supreme over the Central Plain, rivaled only by the Forces of Evil and the Demon Cult.

Then there's also the Forces of Evil. The Forces of Evil is one of the three largest influences in Murim and is a force made up of the worst, who won't hesitate to commit crimes and violence. It is on par with the Forces of Justice. It is also known by the alias River of Evil and is led by Hang Yen, the West Strong King. He is also part of the Five Strongest, alongside Cheon Yujong, the South Demon Lord, who is the Lord of the Sky Demon Order or, as the central plain calls them, the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult or Demon Cult. These factions reign supreme over the martial world and are symbols of martial arts itself. Every move they make can shake the whole martial world; that's just how powerful they are.

But for them to become strong, they also need strong members. To ensure their power remains, they pass on their martial arts to the next generation and cultivate them. The way they cultivate their young is different from one another. The Yulin Alliance or Forces of Justice has a Clan System where each clan cultivates its own martial arts and passes it down through the generations. In contrast, the Sky Demon Order has a Demon Academy. This academy is where younglings from each clan, or any members of the demonic cult at all, attend to learn how to become stronger. The academy opens every ten years, and whenever the Six Princes of the Cult join, it is referred to as the Period of Battle within the Heirs.

However, this generation was peculiar. Instead of it just being six princes, there were eight. There was the unofficial son of the Lord from a servant, Cheon Yeowun, and the mysterious Young Prince from the wealthiest clan in the entire Yulin/Wulin, the Emerald Serpent Clan's young Master Cheon Mujin. These two were unexpected additions to the mix, but they were welcomed by the crowd to make the battle more entertaining.

At the entrance of the Demonic Academy, a line of young men and women was forming. All of these young prospects came from all around the land of Xinjiang to learn and become strong inside the academy. However, among these many younglings, a certain someone was being denied entry.

Inside the Academy:

All around the front of the main hall of the academy, youths from all around the land of the Sky Demon Order murmured and talked, as one would expect from adolescent teenagers.

"As I have heard, have all the clan heirs gathered?"

"There are so many here!"

"How many people are here?"

"I think there may be a thousand or so."

"Now that I'm here, I'm getting kind of nervous."

"I know, right? Since this is a competition between the heirs, us part of small clans have no place."

Murmurs filled the place.

Then, from the main building, a man with red hair and a beard emitting a strong aura, wearing a cape with a sword hung on his waist, walked out.

"They're all so loud," scowled the man.

"It's such a mess looking at them with no spirits at all, stupid things."

"Did you all come here without the resolve that this place could be your last?" he said and released a tiny bit of his aura, which made the entire crowd sweat from nervousness and fear.

"That's the Left Guardian! One of the top ten in the cult!"

"Top ten? Shouldn't it be at least top 5!"

"Anywhere he's placed, he is still terrifying!"

Murmurs filled the crowd of youth at the Right Guardian's appearance.

'Oho? Would you look at that. The kids in the front. They're the heirs of the Six Clans and the Princes.'

In the very forefront of the crowd were five young men and one woman:

- Wise Clan Cheon Muyeon

- Sword Clan Cheon Kyung Weon

- Spring Clan Cheon Mukuem

- Poison Clan Cheon Jong Sum

- Blade Clan Cheon Yuchan

- Sound Clan Cheon Won Ryuh

All of these youths exuded confidence and arrogance, but their arrogance was justified, as they could back it up with skills.

'Hmmm, the seventh and eighth princes are not here?' Strangely enough, the Left Guardian didn't see Cheon Yeowun and Cheon Mujin.

Outside the Academy, at the entrance:

"What!? What do you mean my name is not here!?" Cheon Yeowun shouted at the guard who was granting entry.

"I'm sorry, prince, but I can't see your name here," the other said smugly. Cheon Yeowun could feel that this is some plot conducted again by the Six Clans. It was obvious that his name was there, but the guard wasn't granting him entry deliberately.

"It seems that you'll just have to wait for one," said the guard. But suddenly, among the crowd, a certain young man stepped up. He walked right in front of the guard who was talking to Cheon Yeowun without even glancing at the long line that he was supposed to wait.

"Who—"

Slap!

Before he could even utter another word, the young man slapped him right in the face, sending him rolling to the ground.

"Who do you think you are talking to?" The young man with string-like eyes grabbed the hair of the guard and pulled it up, then looked at the guard straight in the eye with a cold gaze.

"No matter how pathetic my brother may be, no one in the entire Sky Demon Order has the right to disrespect him, especially when he holds the blood of Cheon Family." Then, when the guard heard him, he realized that this young man was the famous elusive 8th Prince of the Cheon Family.

His string-like eyes and vicious attitude. This was none other than Cheon Mujin.

"Death. That's the punishment for someone insulting the Cheon Blood, the bloodline of the Lord. Can you—a mere guard—handle the consequences of insulting our Lord's blood?" asked Cheon Mujin with a cold and heartless tone.

At those words, the guard paled. He didn't know just how severely he screwed up; he just thought that he'd make some easy money, but he didn't think it would be this dangerous.

"I-I'm sorry, your majesty! I-I didn't know! Please forgive me!" He begged on his knees, but Cheon Mujin only looked at the guard with cold eyes.

"Prince Cheon Yeowun, please forgive me! I don't want to die!" But before he could even utter another sentence, Cheon Mujin pierced his stomach with his hand, killing the guard.

"Mere servants should learn to know their place," said Cheon Mujin. He then turned his head towards Cheon Yeowun and said, "I'll be seeing you inside then, brother," and walked away, leaving the entire crowd shocked and scared.

Cheon Yeowun looked at the fading figure of his brother with dread and thought, 'So this is what I'm going to compete against with.'
