Zheren led Max through the dark hallway until they got to another building. Then he suddenly stopped and turned around causing Max to almost fall.
"Max, I don't know how you were able to do it but I want to say thank you for bringing me back to life and for healing me. Damon said I am now a demon, it came as a shock to me considering my status before but I do not mind that again," Zheren said in a low voice then let out an inaudible sigh.
"I did what I had to do so you don't have to be like that, besides you saved me," Max replied with a slight smile on his face. "About the demon stuff, well I happened to be favoured by Damon and so I was able to turn into a demon, I guess it was a bit of luck that I was able to bring you back to life. As you have seen, I am not yet strong enough which explains why I fainted. By the way, how many days have I been asleep?"
"Two days I guess," Zheren replied to Max's shock.
"Two days? Hell! I need to return to school," Max said as he remembered something.
"Let's go see Damon, he might have a way of sending you directly into the school," Zheren said as he pushed open the large door.
They walked in and spotted Damon on a large chair with some ladies at both sides.
"I see you are finally awake," Damon said with a smirk on his face. He waved the women out and adjusted himself well on the chair. "How do you feel now?" he asked. His voice brought back the young boys out of their daydreams.
"I feel okay, Thank you for your help," Max said with his head bowed slightly.
"It is nothing so don't feel grateful to me," Damon said.
"Alright, I would love to go back to school, is there any way you can help me?" Max asked.
"That won't be a problem. If you need anything don't hesitate to let me know," Damon said and waved his hand, an opening in the space was then created. "You can go," he said.
"Thank you!" Max replied and went into the opening followed by Zheren.
"There is something strange about him, how could he have woken up earlier and... I need to watch him," Damon said with his eyes fixed on the opening.
------------
"Hey, it's been two days already and you are still like this?" Matt could not help but ask in frustration as he stared at Harry.
It's been already two days since the students came back from the portal. Some groups passed the test such as Kelvin's group but some failed. Harry on his part hasn't been the same, although he and Max weren't that close, he had already taken him as his little brother. It pained him that Max wasn't around to celebrate the victory together with them, it also pained him that there was nothing he could do to save him. Ever since they came back from the portal, he decided to disassociate himself from his friends and only wanted to be alone, this, of course, got Kelvin pretty upset but there was nothing he could do.
The teacher and the school authority when they heard what happened to Max didn't bother to do anything. They were not willing to do a thing considering the fact that Max was total trash, a complete waste of time and energy. Some went as far as to say that it was better he died than to be alive for nothing. Harry who had reported the case almost attacked the teacher who said that but he was held down by Kelvin and Matt.
"It's none of your damn business Matt, just let me be!" Harry said and stood up to leave the class when Kelvin rushed to them, panting and smiling from ear to ear.
"He's awake! Nat is finally awake! Let's go see him," Kelvin said with joy as he dragged both Matt and Harry out of the class. They ran to the infirmary like girls running to see their idols. When they got to the room where Nat was kept, Kelvin hastily pushed open the doors and went in but to their greatest shock, Nat was nowhere to be seen in the room.
"Wh-where is he?" Kelvin asked in disbelief as he stared at the empty bed.
"You are asking us? You should ask yourself, didn't you see him before coming to us?" Harry said. Though he was happy that Nat was finally awake, that wasn't his main concern. If there was any way, he would simply even walk out of the place but Nat was his friend so he would not just leave.
"I saw him, I told him to wait that I was coming to get you both," The look on Kelvin's face was like someone who was stood up by his girlfriend all through the night. He seemed angry and frustrated at the same time.
"We should go check outside than arguing here, he might be somewhere waiting for us," Matt reminded them and they all agreed and left the infirmary.
At the back of the school, the space cracked and an opening was created. Two pale figures emerged from the opening and then it closed back after they had stepped out of it.
"We are here," Max said to Zheren who kept looking around the place. "When they ask who are you, just tell them that you are my distant relative who just got enrolled into the school. Don't talk to them more and don't listen to whatever they have to say. In this school, no one is nice, they are just like some hungry wolves waiting to prey on the Sheep like us."
"Understood! Do not worry, I understand all that you've said," Zheren replied reassuringly. Max nodded and they began to walk toward the dorms.
It was time for breakfast and so not many students were around the school, the ones that were around all gave Max that everyday look. A look that says ' You are trash! Total trash and a disgrace to humanity' If it were before, he would be upset and disheartened but right now, he briefly glanced at them and kept walking. This surprised some of the students as he had never behaved this way before while some saw it as his new way of lying to himself that all will be well soon.
The duo walked to the dorm and just as Max was about to open the door, he felt a strong hand yank him forcefully from behind causing him to stumble backwards. He turned around to see who it was and it shocked him upon seeing the person.
