16: Don't you dare pity me

Yeah! It was nearly impossible to trust her words. A human can live for thousands of years? When did this become possible?

The human lifespan is only limited to hundred years. Or maybe ten or so years after that but normally it was seventy or something years at most.

Santiago couldn't help but wonder why this woman was speaking nonsense. He couldn't bring himself to trust her, her talk was strange and the way she was behaving was weird as well.

" I think you will be at the opposite side of your bed today, that's why you are speaking nonsense ", Santiago showed her his condolences.

She glared at him. " Believe it or not, but I had been in a deep slumber for five hundred years. And I don't have any memories of these years. The last thing I remember is that I was standing on the cruise ship and threw myself in the water, it happened thousand years ago ".

Nuri was stating her mind right there but Santiago was not buying it. It was not like he couldn't, but it was all weird. How can a person like her just speak anything that she deems correct? Does she think he is an easy target or a fool?

Looking at him, Nuri understood full well that he was taking her for a mental patient or someone who has gone crazy.

And yes, he had a question for her. " If you are actually what you stated, why are you telling me everything? I mean, you just met me, I am still a stranger to you. So how can you just...", He asked.

To his response, she touched his hand, locked her fingers with his, and looked at him. " You are a criminal and running from the police. You know quite well that hiding from others is the only way for you to survive. So selling me is like exposing yourself. But...if you do expose me to someone, I will also not back off to reveal your identity. So we are alike, we should stick to each other ", She said with a villainous smile.

He was a criminal running from the government and the police, if he is to expose her secret to the world, he won't be able to run away either. Nuri is the type of person who won't be sitting idly if someone tries to harm her in any way.

" Little boy, I am not as kind as I seem to me. I only show my kindness to those who deserve it. I hope you don't get into my bad book ", She said in a villainous tone.

She was scary, he got to know it finally. Her hand was still in his, fingers locked together. He understood full well that she was not an easy person to get along with. If he was a criminal by chance, she was no less either.

He was intimidated by her dark aura, but it only remained for ten seconds. She was again back to her cheery temperament shortly after, smiling at him and all.

Santiago returned to his normal self as well.

" So... what's your next stop? Where will you be heading tomorrow ", He asked.

" I am going to the central region. I heard there's a secret market in there, which is widely known for secrets weapons and objects that you can't find anywhere in the world ", She said.

He looked at her curiously. " Why are you going there? And do you even have money on you, to begin with? ".

She was penniless, there was no way she even had a single rupee on her. Whatever she had was stolen from the people.

" You are right, I am penniless. But just so you know, I have some talent in making moments ", Said Nuri while chuckling.

" But that's not what I ask only. Why do you have to approach a place as dangerous as the black market? ".

" You see, I am in a form where anybody can hurt me and detain me. It's a crime to be a human in this world, and I have no interest in putting myself in danger. So I have to change myself. And the black market holds the key to the object I need ", Nuri didn't hide anything from him.

He might not trust her, but she does. And her trust in him was enough for her to share such sensitive information with him. He was a runaway criminal just like her, so it's no big thing to share it with him. After all, he can't tell anyone about her. If he does, the one to fall into trouble would be him alone and not her.

Santiago was sympathetic towards her. He knows the situation of humans in this world. There was a time when this world used to belong to humans, they were the rulers of this world, and everything was managed by them.

And...the same human became the destroyer of his kin and world. Because of one silly mistake, the world changed and entered the evaluation phase.

Where aliens and hybrids were ruling the world and living peacefully, humankind is suffering from pain and racism. They are forced to kill themselves, they keen no longer have a future, it was all bleak.

Nuri pulled out her hand from his hand and leaned against the wall even tightly, she was all sleepy and wanted to take some rest before daybreak.

" You don't have to show your pity towards them. I may be a human, but I have not fallen into a state where I need someone's sympathy and pity. I will become one of you very soon. So stop looking at me that way ", She said.

She saw how he was looking at her. And she was no victim to receive all that, nor she wants to be one to take pity from him.

" By the way, where are you going after this? ", She asked.

" My friends live in this city. So I will be visiting him ".
