My name is Reinhard Greyrat.

I'm at work in the Manor.

Today is the coming of age 10th Birthday of Eris.

I heard from Rudeus that she had a problem learning how to dance, and he used a kind of trick to help her.

The manor is festive as all kinds of local nobles in the Region were invited. I have to stand guard beside Ghislaine in the corner of the room.

Eris is dressed in a blue dress that goes well with her red hair. She was dolled up and seated like a princess.

Old gramps Sauros howled for the celebration to start and we keep watch the entire time. Ghislaine was a beastfolk so her senses are sharper than mine.

Some brought their sons along to introduce them for a potential marriage partner. Their age ranged from a 5 years old kid to a middle aged adult in his 30's.

Some were our age, but almost all of them were loud and obnoxious. I want to smack their faces and rip their tongues of if they dare act haughtily at me like that.

Ghislaine was drooling at the food served in the table. I understand her since my appetite is calling for me to eat with the food's pleasant smell.

Soon it was time for the dance. Like it was planned from the very beginning, Rudeus took the role to be Eris' first dance partner. It was the simplest, most childish dance, but because Eris was the star they took to the center of the room.

Eris' movements are stiff. Fortunately Rudeus picked up the slack and made some feints learned in Ghislaine's lessons. Her battle instincts is there.

After the first music, Rudeus was done and returned to where he is before. They did well that they didn't end up embarrassing themselves like tripping and falling.

With my keen hearing senses, I heard some nobles asking Old Gramps Sauros. "That boy who danced with the Young Mistress at first, he did a splendid job calming her nerves. Could he be one of your illegitimate children, Sauros-sama?"

It was enough to make him in good spirits and blurted out that he had a Greyrat blood. He also bragged about me being his brother and is strong enough to be a Saint-tier swordsman under the tutelage of Sword King Ghislaine.

I stopped eavesdropping on them and continued looking around the hall, when I noticed a cute little girl in front of me.

I would guess she would be around my age.

She had a blonde hair styled prettily, wore a beautiful dress, and she had a noble demeanor.

She is well educated in etiquette, good for her.

Then suddenly I found that she was looking at me. She held her skirt and do a curtsy.

"A pleasure to meet your acquaintance." She said before offering her name. She was the daughter of one of the minor nobles. Her name was so long I wouldn't bother remembering.

"Won't you share a dance with me?" she asked.

I was thinking on refusing her offer since I'm in the middle at work, but I saw Phillip the mayor nodding at me giving his approval.

I left my sheath and sword on my waist and let a nearby maid hold it on for me.

I could also see in my peripheral vision that guy Rudeus dancing with a girl too.

Dancing isn't really my forte, but I could just imitate the footwork of the men dancing along. I learned it instantly which is convenient.

Thanks to my slow motion vision, I could prevent any mistakes.

"Reinhard-sama. Do you still remember me?" The girl talked to me in a volume where only I could hear.

Remember her?

Why would I bother remembering someone like this girl?

"Who are you?" And so I asked.

She looked visibly shocked and hurt when I said it. I don't care about her feelings, I won't remember which I didn't remember.

She recovered from it and told me. "A week ago, you saved me from the kidnappers."

Now that she mentioned it, I did elimate some kidnappers.

And I did remember a girl they were carrying. She was so beat up that her face couldn't be recognized. I didn't take a good look at her face when I healed her, but she's pretty when its like this.

"Are you that girl?"

"So you did remember! I'm glad!" She smiled happily and innocently.

"You know I truly wanted to pay back the gratitude for saving me. But because that happened Papa strictly prohibited me from going out. Isn't that horrible?"

Your father's just worried about you dumb little chick.

"So Reinhard-sama I heard that you are a Greyrat? You're so strong in swordplay and already a Knight! Isn't that amazing?!"

"Yeah I guess..."

I only want to be a Knight since I wanted money for myself. I don't plan on continuing this career when I become older.

She continued talking with me about various things. Most of it she asking me about anything. I don't see any harm telling her, so I told her everything she wanted to know.

"What? You came from the countryside boonies?"

"Is something wrong with that?"

I met several kids my age and most of them didn't even know how to read or write. Though they could recognize letters, but not someone who could read a book.

Reading a book is equivalent of reading a thesis paper. It required a certain level of intelligence to truly comprehend them.

"Oh, th-thanks..." She became flustered with her cheeks becoming slightly red.

We continue our dancing until the music ended.

"Take care next time. Don't get in trouble next time." Just as we're out of the dance floor I was already ready to go back to my post.

I felt a tug on my sleeves and noticed the girl was holding on it.

"Um Reinhard-sama, is there anything you wanted me to do for you?" Somehow I could see that she's unto something.

"No need. Its my duty as a Knight to uphold public safety, so you don't need to do anything for me."

She looked quite sad hearing that. I don't really care how she feels, its not like we're going to meet again anyway.

But leaving a girl like her hanging like this would leave a bad taste in my mouth, so I'm thinking of ways to make her feel better.

"Reinhard-sama please, can you accompany me for a while? Just a little bit more, I want to say something with you only the two of us..."

Is she going to confess or something? I don't really understand girls her age or women in general. They are a pain in the ass and hard to deal with.

"Sure, lead the way."

She made a happy expression. And the girl pulled me outside where we could only be alone.

But that is when it happened...

We are somewhere a little deserted where people don't really go.

"Reinhard-sama, could you give me a toast with this wine?"
