[SECOND LIFE]

The second life I remember was where I was born as Matilda Sandrine Yap, a modern woman on Earth.

I was an heiress for a huge Asian conglomerate and I was married to a business tycoon. But it was an arranged marriage and for me, it was something similar to a "business contract" only. Plus, my husband was gay. He just used me to cover-up his sexuality.

Knowing that, I still married him. I wanted a child so bad. But because of my husband's sexuality, we never slept together. We just opted for artificial insemination. It was successful and I got pregnant. I thought I would finally be a mother again.

But when I was only three months pregnant, the plane I was riding crashed and I died.

When I "woke up", I was back to the first life I still clearly remember.

Before I became Matilda Sandrine Yap, I was born as Matilda Prescott– the only daughter of Duke Maverick Prescott. We were one of the few higher nobles of Moonchester Empire.

As Lady Prescott, I was snobbish and ambitious. In my first life, I wanted to be the empress. But from the very beginning, it was already impossible.

The Moonchester Empire had a strict tradition. The royal family married only within themselves. But despite Kiho's bad reputation, I still followed my father's wish and married the captain.

I did that to gain the emperor's favor. The High Priest that His Majesty trusted said that Kiho's child would be a special existence to the empire. But the problem was it would be hard for an ordinary woman to carry the "Serpent's child" in her womb. Fortunately, the High Priest saw a prophecy about a "dark-haired" woman that would be able to give birth to Kiho's son.

I possessed the darkest hair among the noblewomen in the empire. And thus, my father who was a part of the Royal Faction, arranged my marriage with the captain.

In hopes of gaining the emperor's favor, I married Kiho.

A year after my dull and loveless marriage with Captain Kiho, I gave birth to our son that he named 'Winter.' But Kiho was almost never home because he was always in a never-ending war to protect the emperor.

In short, I was the one who raised Winter by myself. The moment I noticed the emperor's interest in my son, I vowed to myself that I would "create" a perfect child– a child that would be more than enough to be the emperor's heir. If I couldn't be an empress, then being the future emperor's mother didn't sound bad.

For the sake of my renewed ambition, I decided to make my son sit on the throne.

To support Winter, I betrayed the trust of Princess Nia, the emperor's twin sister-slash-fiancée and exposed her secret to the public. After the scandal, the royal princess was exiled from the palace. His Majesty begged the higher nobles to spare Princess Nia's life.

During that time, I had become the voice of the Royal Faction. In exchange of the princess' life, I asked His Majesty to choose an heir. Of course, none of the noble kids was deserving enough for the position other than my very own Winter.

That was how my son became the emperor's heir.

Back then, I was too happy that I didn't notice that I was creating a monster.

Winter wanted to be a good son but he couldn't help developing hatred towards me, his own mother, for his cruel upbringing. As a result of the internal conflict, my son developed a split personality caused by stress. In front of me, he was dutiful. But when no one was looking, he would turn into a vicious criminal. Sadly, it all happened when he was only twelve years old.

But eventually, Winter would be saved by another woman.

Lucina Morganna was a lower noble with a beautiful face and long black hair. The first time she appeared in the Royal Capital, she created a fuss. In the empire, it was very rare to have dark hair, much more a black one. Other nobles who hated me for my arrogance claimed that Lucina Morganna was the true woman in the prophecy.

They weren't wrong though.

When Kiho met Lucina, he fell in love with her at first sight. After they confirmed their feelings for each other, he asked me for a divorce. I thought I didn't need him anymore since Winter had already become the emperor's heir, so I gave my husband the freedom that he wanted. But of course, I divorced him on a condition that Winter's custody remained mine.

Our son promised that I would be his one and only mother. But since he needed the best training to be the future emperor, I let him stay at his father's mansion– with his new wife.

It was the biggest mistake I made in my first life.

Winter was soon won over by Lucina Morganna. She "fixed" my son and made him realize how terrible of a mother I was by becoming a good stepmother to him. In the end, my own son stopped listening to me. When Winter disowned me, I lost my power and influence in the social circle. I also became a laughingstock for the nobles.

I blamed my misfortune to Lucina Morganna and made several attempts to kill her. I even begged Kiho to take me back. But in the end, Kiho and Winter discovered my crimes.

The emperor– still holding a grudge against me after I wronged Princess Nia– sentenced me to death by public execution. During my last moments, before my head rolled off the ground, I looked at my family one last time.

Kiho and Winter didn't look sad at all. They only looked relieved. It seemed like Lucina Morganna had taken good care of my ex-husband and son– the job I failed to do so.

You need to read this novel!!! (This review is based on chapters up to the 82nd) Firstly, this is not your typical reincarnation story. The story is full of mysteries that will never fail to hook you. The plot is multi-layered so you won’t be able to guess everything in one go, hence it’s not boring or predictable. I love how author reveal one thing after another in a pace that is neither too slow nor too hasty. So, there is not one chapter that I find boring or unnecessary. This is such a nice thing because sometimes I find stories (even those that I really like) to be dragging or too slow. I can totally feel that the plot is well thought and solid. Secondly, I love how the chapters are quite long. So even if author only updates one chapter daily, but the reading experience is kind of similar to reading 2 chapters daily. So even though the novel has only 82 chapters as of now, but I think it is quite comparable to 150 chapters of most other novels. So far I’ve only encountered 2 or 3 books in webnovel that publish long chapters like this one. So I really really love the author for this. And so far the update seems regular; one chapter daily with extra chapter once in a while. Thirdly, I love the character build in this story. For starter, I so very much in love with both the main couple. The FL was supposedly a villainess in her first life but seems like there is some conspiracies behind the happenings in her previous life. And I love how thoroughly author incorporated the legend of a phoenix in her character; from how she lives a few life with one being better than the previous to her being the heart of phoenix. She is lovely, smart and has a mature beauty; beautiful face with a seductive body. The ML is portrayed as a very good looking man. But because he had lived a very hard life since young, he is quite aloof and quiet. But after meeting the FL, he starts changing and find enjoyment in interacting with her. He is notorious for being the ‘shadow beast’ but personality he is a gentleman through and through. He fits with the saying ‘gentleman in the streets, beast in the sheets’ 😝. I really love how he is with the FL. Their love and passion for each other are to die for and I love every fluffy and steamy moments of them 😆. So, give this a try and you’ll love it!

Let me just start off by with this: this novel never crossed my mind to read it because of the TITLE. It honestly reminds me of many popular translated (I guess not translated as well) Chinese novel titles on here that feel shallow and flat. Though I am up-to-date with the current chapter I’m still not an advocate for the title even now. HOWEVER, let’s just say that in this case the story overpowers my disapprovement of the title that much more. This novel popped up on my recommended novel list for the 7 day reading challenge. With little to nothing I wanted to choose to read from, I decided to give it a shot since who doesn’t like a hot ML who’s a captain?! (plus other reviews who claimed the novel is fluff & candies++👍🏻) Anyways, I’m very impressed that I was hooked onto the story within the first 5 chapters. As mentioned in the synopsis, FL was given another chance to live her first life. She changes for the better and becomes a much more mature and charming person (plus a bit of feistiness to top it off😉). And it’s even better that she and the ML meet near the beginning of the novel🥰 Their love is to die for! They have great trust in one another, good communication to prevent major misunderstandings, and so much fluff and PDA for readers to gladly drown in😂 No shame! AND ML is such a cutie and deserves the world❤️ He is very respectful and always gets the consent of FL before he engages in anything intimate with her. They really are each other’s world🥺 (Heck, where’s my Kiho out there?!😒) The story progression feels very steady despite the two leads jumping into their romance right off the bat. But there is still a good pace that it follows to further heighten and reinforce their relationship. A couple of grammar and spelling errors but it is dismissable and doesn’t hinder the reading progress. Overall, LOVE the story so far. I remember the author mentioning how the story might end between 200-250 chapters, which I think is a wise idea. I can see how this novel could be extended with longer arc lines and more fillers to drag the story out to 300-400 chapters. But I think the value of those -250 chapters will far over weigh that of something more lengthy for the sake of adding more. AMAZING!!! Its definitely not your typical villainess story! Its super cute, and the plot twists later on really have you on edge! In the vast ocean of rebirth/villainess stories, this is one to look out for! :)

If you like Romance, sort of redemption for the Female protagonist, cute fluffy moments, fairly realistic interactions, three-dimensional characters you will love this story!!! I am advent fan of other world stories, this story has definitely become one of my favorites!!! The story is written quite well and has obviously been story boarded. If not written well it would have become confusing. The FL situation is like queen with a scalpel (but not half as annoying personally). The ML is a gem!!! And I am looking forward to their child!!! With only a few chapters the author definitely surprises you, delivering a very sweet story that gives you a break from just lust filled romance (even though the are good looking main characters), to pure love story due to hilarious reasons might I add which I Love !!!

Author-san, I really really love this novel... I love the FL who is trying hard to repent from her mistakes towards 2 important persons in her life namely her husband n son I could tell her constant effort to support, encourage, protect n love the ML And do i need to emphasize the existence of a 'monster' ML towards others n gentle n doting towards his beloved FL No one would refuse that kind of ML in their life rite???🥰🥰🥰

the works of the author is amazing that you dont wish to put down the novel whether it's this or others by the author...the only disappointing thing is this being the first novel is still not complete and the author is writing many more. I have already lost track of the storyline cos its been so long. though I love her works but seeing how all her novels r incomplete yet she's starting new ones, am not sure if n when she will complete this novel. So henceforth I will only read her novel once its complete.

I am shameless enough to give this novel a second review. Maybe you remember my first review hehehe. This novel deserves a 2nd good review. Who knows perhaps in the future I will give a third review. After all all good things go in threes according to Rumpelstiltskin. I really hope that author will make more novels which I will fully support. Tell me author where have you been all the time? Why did you not show up earlier to bless us with your novels? But if you stop after this novel I will find you and slap you to senses. Ýeah I am not a tolerant person 😋.

An enjoyable read with a reincarnated MC. She neglected her husband and used her son to gain power in her previous life. After getting killed she lived in a modern world before her rebirth in the original world. ML is cute but closet yandere. Mysteries are popping up everywhere. Eagerly waiting for more.
