=======================
Akira spent the next few days chilling in DC, enjoying the atmosphere of the country. One of the most interesting things to Akira about this world was the consequences of introducing quirks into it, and how different countries have reacted to it.
Before the introduction of quirks, America was in chaos. When you add superpowers into the mix, one could only expect it to get worse, but the opposite happened really. The first wave of vigilantes were originally formed in America with the goal of protecting people when the system couldn't.
Another decision which helped restore America into some sort of order was its tolerance of quirks. Just like guns, Americans believed they should have a right to use their quirks in dire situations like guns, and so laws were built to support that, helping many different aspects of life.
If Akira had to say, countries like Japan and America benefitted the most from the arrival of quirks. Continents such as South America and Africa have villain attacks and deaths at an all time high, even places in Europe like Portugal and Spain have experienced so many attacks to the point where they were forced to merge into one country under the name of Iberan.
There is a sort of invisible grey line on what the status of Arctic is as numerous ice and cold quirked users have escaped from their former countries and managed to make a home there.
Akira just wished Horikoshi would have expanded more upon the world rather than stick to Japan. Even a spin-off series based in another country would be fine. Once Akira had the time, he would travel the entire world and try to learn all new things about the world. He had a second life in a world as amazing as this, he wasn't going to waste it being a hero 24/7.
Which is why he spent nearly 3 hours watching the latest superhero war action drama movie. The movie was called Berserk, and was based on real events, documenting the story of Guts, an American born kid who joined the quirk wars roughly a hundred years ago. During the story he goes through many different things, including his quirk awakening, dealing with his inner demons, and even a forbidden romance. It was a very cliche movie, but the cgi was pretty good.
"The movie was alright. It was the setting that saved it, the romance subplot did ruin it though." Akira gave his thoughts on the movie.
"Yeah," David agreed. "His quirk was pretty cool though. His quirk originally made his heart beat faster and allowed him to get stronger for a short amount of time, but when it awakened his heartbeat was proportional to his strength. The inspiration for his quirk was obviously All Might."
Before Akira could respond, a black SUV appeared in front of them. The door opened. David and Akira shared a knowing look, hopping in the car. There were 2 agents sitting in front of the car, silent and stone faced as ever.
"Ohhhh, top secret, I like it." Akira joked as he made himself comfortable. A moment later the agents turned around, each of them holding a pair of blindfolds.
"You just had to open your mouth, didn't you?" David sighed, taking the blindfold and putting it on. Akira followed, resisting the urge to put on a sensing <Order> to see where the agents were taking him.
Secrets were secrets for a reason.
Since his vision was already gone and he had already sunken into the comfy seats of the car, Akira decided just to close his eyes, falling to sleep within the minute.
He woke up sometime later from the nudge of David. His blindfold was forced off his face, and the door was opened. Akira covered his eyes instinctively, expecting a bright light to shine in his face, but to his surprise the lighting didn't even change.
"Straight down that hallway, follow the lamps." The agent said, jumping back into the car silently.
'Why are these people so weird?' Akira shivered, thinking back to when he met that flight attendant. Whoever picked these people needed a raise.
Akira and David walked in silence down the hallway for what seemed like hours. They eventually arrived at what seemed to be a door. David slammed his hand against the metal a few times, barely even making a noise.
"Code?" A voice asked on an intercom.
"Alpha Foxtrot Yankee Romeo Zulu November Gold Kilo Bravo Victor Victor 129705960." David replied.
A moment later the door opened wide, another agent who looked identical to the last one greeting them with a nod.
"Welcome David Fischer and Akira Endo, everyone is waiting for you." The agent gestured for them to come in.
The situation only got even weirder, as they proceeded to walk through a variety of rooms before arriving at their destination. Akira saw many things, including greenhouses which hosted a careful selection of crops and food, a livestock room, a surveillance room, and even a room for sports.
"Amazing isn't it?" David asked as they walked through the halls. "This place is designed in case of a national level threat, such as a class SSS villain or the aftermath of a nuclear fallout. Name anything, and this place most likely has it. A group of people could live here forever."
"And you're telling an outsider this information?"
David chuckled, "Cathleen gave you clearance for this. Unlike in other countries where the number one hero is just a figurehead, Cath's official position in the American Government is quite high up there."
When they arrived, the conference room was packed with people of high rankings. Seated in a large circle, Akira recognised most of the top 10 heroes, with Cathleen sitting somewhere near to the top with other high ranking generals and officials. At the very top itself, the president was seated with a stern look on his face.
Akira whistled in his head. 'Looks like this is really important.' He definitely wouldn't have been here if not for Cath. The number 1 hero must really carry lot's of authority if she could have gotten him into this meeting. He took a seat somewhere near the bottom, which is where some of the seats were only free. It took around 10 more minutes before every seat was filled up. Despite there being around 40 people in the room, it was completely silent save for the occasional cough or sniffle.
The president gave a small nod to one of the generals sitting beside him, and the meeting started.
"Good afternoon everyone. Let's skip the small talk and get down to the main subject of this meeting…which I'm sure most of you are aware of…The Holysee Church." The general said gravely.
The atmosphere in the room immediately dropped by several degrees. Even the usual confident and arrogant Homelander frowned in response, supposedly deep in thought.
"After the attack on Washington, the group has been getting more and more confident in making themselves known. Creating social media, displaying their power, and using propaganda to try and convince people to their cause. Using methods like these, they have managed to recruit at least a million members to the Holysee church." The general sighed sadly, "What's worse than a strong and powerful organisation, is a strong and powerful organisation that knows what to say, and how to manipulate the people of our generation. This meeting was called to discuss a few important topics pertaining to the Holysee church."
"First is that, we are happy to announce that one of our informants has managed to get the location of multiple bases of the organisation. I'm naming this operation operation Swift, meaning that we will assign each of you heroes a location. Your goal is to neutralise anyone in that base, and raze the structure to the ground, leaving nothing left. Taking out these key points will be a show of power by us, strengthening our influence on the media, while weakening theirs."
"Sounds like a plan," Dan grinned, slamming his fists together eagerly, "I've had enough of dealing with the so-called fanatics. Lot's of my friends have mutation quirks, some even quirkless, I can't stand them being treated like that."
"Mhm," Eagleman nodded, "I've been getting much discrimination recently. Even to the point where my agency has been thrashed or even being attacked in the middle of the street. Even online, some people want to cancel me."
The general, hearing the silence, took a large gulp of water before he began speaking again. "Now listen carefully, cause this is where you will be assigned. You will be handed a folder with as much information about the location the informant could get."
"Now onto the second point of the agenda. We managed to retrieve Adam's body after his fight with Cathleen. Upon inspecting further, the medical team truly found something fascinating, no, horrifying…"
Akira leaned forward.
"From the tests…we found out that the abilities they used weren't…quirks."
'What the fuck?'
