Memories of an Old Lane

"You only love me because I'm the person who got your past girlfriend's heart." Tears rolled down on her cheeks. She clutched on her left chest as her heart was aching. No, it's not her heart. She just borrowed it. She borrowed it from the girlfriend of the man she loves the most. He tried to reach for her but she just shoved his hand away. He never wanted to hurt her. He never wanted to make her cry. "Don't touch me! If you want her heart again, I will give it back to you!" He slowly shook his head, feeling his voice got stuck in his throat. He wants her to stay by his side but why can't he voice it out? "Fuyu—" "I regret loving you. I wish I just died that day."

The last thing she remembered is using her breather. She slowly opened her eyes and started wandering. It looks like they have already arrived at the onsen ryokan. She touched her chest and felt that there was no more pain. The sliding door went open and he walked in, kneeling beside her while looking for his stethoscope from his luggage. He checked her heartbeat rate first and then, her blood pressure rate. Everything is back to normal.

"Sensei.. what happened?" She softly asked, sitting up in the futon before realizing that both of them are wearing the same designs of yukata.

"You got chest pains. It is because of the cold weather. Your stitches are already healed up but it doesn't mean you will not feel any more pain from it. Don't worry. I'm here. If you're feeling uncomfortable or anything else, tell me." She nodded weakly while looking at him.

He gently caressed her hair and then, he left a kiss on her forehead. She smiled faintly, moving closer to him for a comforting hug. Will it be okay for a patient to be this close to her doctor? They didn't know that the others were already there and watching their moments silently. Gia smiled, knowing that this trip might be the way for the two to be together. She is just hoping that he is completely healed so that there will be no problems in the future.

"Fuyu-chan?" Gia called them and the younger one moved her head to peek from his shoulders. She smiled and waved her hand.

"Are you feeling okay now?" Gia asked and she nodded. The two released themselves from the hug and he picked up his equipment to put it back inside his luggage.

"Why do you have that? Are you on a medical mission?" She asked when she saw his blood pressure monitor and stethoscope. He glared at her and she just snickered. He knows that Fuyu will go with them to the trip, so he needs to bring some equipment just in case something happens.

"Will Fuyu be fine if we take a bath already?" She asked and he looked at Fuyu first. The younger one smiled and nodded. She stood up from the futon and he noticed that she was wearing the anklets he gave her.

It was already dark when they decided to play table tennis. They just finished dipping in the bath a few minutes ago and now, they want to sweat themselves again. Fuyu sat at the side and watched them play. She doesn't know how to play it, so she is the one holding the camera to take shots. When it was his turn, she unconsciously took too many photos of him. Seeing him smile while playing is making her heart beat fast.

She went out of the playroom for a while to buy a can of lemon juice from the vending machine in the lobby area of the ryokan. She didn't know that he followed her, so when she was about to go back, she was surprised. He quickly caught her drink and gave it back to her. He bought a can of hot coffee for himself after that. They both stood up in front of the machine while drinking. She is enjoying the silence between them since his presence can already make her happy the whole day.

"About the museum.." He started. Her ears perked up when she heard this. She didn't expect that he would open that topic up.

"If you're not too busy next weekend, we can go." He continued and she smiled widely, nodding her head.

"I'll go, Sensei. We can meet up outside the museum." She said, thinking about the gift she would give to him when they went there. She is thinking of giving him a sweater since it is already winter.

She saved enough money from her part-time job, so she can already buy the sweater after the trip. She can't contain the excitement in her heart that she already wants the day to be the weekend. He asked her if she wanted to go back to the playroom and she nodded. It looks like they are done playing, so they ordered some beer. They had their dinner and now, they are in the room, drinking while talking about things. They got two large rooms, one for the boys and one for the girls. She chose the spot near the doors that separate their rooms.

"Do you want to sleep early?" He asked softly and she nodded. She is feeling a little tired because of traveling earlier.

He looked at their friends and most of them were already drunk. He didn't bother to help them go to their futons. He carried her in his arms instead and walked in the hallways. She blushed furiously, wrapping her arms around his shoulders while trying to look away from him. They arrived in the room and he carefully put her down on the futon. He opened the connecting doors and pulled his futon closer to hers.

"Sensei, what are you doing?" She whispered and he lied down beside her. He covered her with the blankets, biting her lips while trying to think what he would do next.

"Just in case something happens, it is better that I'm close to you, right?" He said and she slowly nodded. She doesn't know if this will really work but everything he does is giving her butterflies in her stomach.

She fell asleep afterwards. He gently caressed her hair while staring at her face. He wanted to keep her in his arms but he felt like it was not yet the right time for it. He let out a sigh and stared at the ceiling instead. He should have not drank coffee. He can't literally sleep. He took his phone from the side and checked if he had emails to respond with. He filed a few days of leave just for this trip and he should enjoy it. He put it away after sending automated messages that he is currently on leave but then, he grabbed it back to open his calendar and make a reminder about their museum date next weekend.
