Magic Item: Talisman

The other day turned out busier than I expected after doing some research and preparing for today's events. I didn't think I'd have to do so much just to make a few talismans.

Picking up the package from beside me, I unraveled it and nearly set the authentic papyrus in front of the shrine set on my table. Along with it there was some in and a quill for me to write with and a pair of scissors.

"It probably wouldn't have mattered, but it's better to be safe than sorry."

Talismans. They're simply objects inscribed with religious or magical text that are said to be magical in nature and bring good luck or ward off demons.

Usually, I wouldn't have thought of this because I never liked the idea of using these kind of tags. I'd rather use bodily items or equipment, but then I remembered these have rather good use.

These could be used for many things such as empowerment, summoning, restraining, and then some more naturally convenient uses. The only thing I dislike is having to individually make them and the tedious nature of it all.

I took the scissors and cut out a nice sized rectangle and began writing the Odùduwà religious alphabet for containing before flipping it over and putting three symbols for activation on the back.

Next I spoke a chant that would match my intent while slowly putting my energy over the talisman, hoping it would succeed where I failed before.

"Wow…this is perfect…"

It worked wonderfully. As soon as my energy came into contact with the paper, it rushed into text and worked perfectly as intended, bringing my ententions into reality.

Succeeding here gavee to same feeling as enlightenment, well, at least on the emotional scale.

"Heh, this is gonna be an amazingly long day, but at least it'll be amazing!"

With vigor from my accomplishment , I began to write more talismans. I wrote them. Prayed over them, and empowered them to do what I couldn't.

Restoration. Restraint. Stun. Empower. Contain. Levitate.

Of course I didn't get into doing too many different charms considering that this is my first time and I also didn't need or want to get into the hassle of all that right now.

Currently I have 16 restoration charms, 5 for restraint, 10 for stun, 3 for empowering, 3 for containment and 10 for levitation.

'This much should be enough.' Stacking the charms into a deck, I stood up and stretched.

"It still took me this long just to make this many." Looking outside, it was already past noone even though I got up pretty early.

I looked at the area of my work and inspected it. The writing was a little sloppy but the characters were right and baised off the soft, white glow my power was certainly being held within the charms.

Now I just needed to find a nicely cursed place to test all of them. Naturally, I was able to sense curses and the cursed energy in the area, but it was only up to a certain distance.

"Maybe I should write a few as place markers or something?" As soon as I spoke I heard my stomach rumble and the sensation of hunger struck me like lightning.

Holding off, I decided to just go grab some food and maybe go to the store and get regular groceries.

"I'll have to take in more customers if I want to keep up with how much I'm spending. Do some more advertising or something." I walked out of my apartment building and began walking to my favorite diner.

*Ding~*

Hearing the bell ding as Desmond walked in, the main waitress let him take his seat at a booth before going to him with a menu.

"You want the regular right?"

"Sure, no tomatoes."

"Right. One double decker, no tomato, with fries coming up!!"

She walked off and brought him back a cup filled with fruit punch before leaving him again.

Sipping from the cup he turned his attention to the tv.

{The avengers aren't aren't having their lives interrupted when my car gets used to block an alien blaster.}

{How so? They're are people too that have hobbies, families, and personal lives. When they come to protect us you think their lives aren't being interrupted?}

{Hell that brings me to another topic. Those damn mutants being able to freely roam around with that type of power and simply hide like normies is fucking detestable. Our government has failed us in more ways than one!!}

{Although I disagree with your claims and beliefs, It was a good discussion.}

With that, the face of the man was booted off screen and the main reporter said her piece.

Watching the short exchange, Desmond sighed and looked out the glass window of the diner. Moments later, his food arrived.

'The Avengers, I guess even when you're a hero you can be seen as a villain.'

With sirens blurring, a few cop cars sped down the street past the diner, chasing another speeding car.

'With the amount of traffic that flows through here and the way the road and buildings are set up, they'll probably crash.'

And minutes later the rhythm of the sirens changed and a loud collision was heard not too many blocks down.

If he went out there he could have saved them using his restraint charm. When he made it, his intent for it would be more like capturing and stopping something or someone.

However, that wasn't his job. The police are here for things like that, Desmond felt that he was definitely here for something bigger than worldly problems. His purpose laid in a bigger realm.

Those were his beliefs. To let the humanly world, run how it wanted and for him to intervene on spiritual pretens. He could understand why they'd protect the earth, but humanity?

That's a whole different ball park. He may have intertained the idea if it had benefits to his regular life, but it doesn't and with things going on like this, he imagined it would never be beneficial.

"This is all for my own self exploration." Desmond mumbled as he looked distantly out of the window…

"Hm?" Breaking his daze, his vision focused on what looked like people jumping across buildings before he saw a lightning strike hit the building in broad daylight.

"That's definitely not normal…is that…Daniella? Who are those other people? Screw it, I'll trail em'." Leaving the money for his meal on the table, he left the bar and ran through the streets to catch up.

Taking a sharp turn through an alley, he jumped up towards a wall and jumped from it onto a rooftop. Continuing like that, his mind rushed with thoughts.

'Should I watch from afar and let them handle their business or should I help?'

Another lightning strike descended and shook the air with it, causing a loud rumble of thunder. He finally got a lock on them after kicking up his energy output and watched the group perform.

There were five mutants on a rooftop, one girl who seemed to be a teenager sparked with lightning over her body and the other four seemed to be with Danielle wearing black and yellow costumes.

The young girl pushed her hands out towards the group, but the streak of lightning missed as they split up.

Danielle pulled her bow up and an arrow shaped construct was created before she rapidly shot 3 of them at the girl, which was blocked by a sudden lightning barrier.

Getting behind her, a woman as hairy as a dog swept her legs, but before she could follow up, a strike of lightning struck the girls body forcing her to back up.

Quickly, a man of pure darkness stomped the ground causing it to shake violently and crack. The teen lost her balance and in that second Daniella shot an arrow towards the girl striking her head while the hairy woman caught her before she hit the ground.

"Wow, that's some good teamwork. They didn't even communicate and were able to actively play off of each others attacks and masterfully set up blind spots."

Desmond was amazed seeing it with his own eyes. He watched their moves intensely as Danielle's arrow vanished yet there wasn't any damage shown on the girl. She was simply knocked out.

Their team talked for a moment, before all turning their heads towards his direction. Shocked, Desmond was late to react and by the time he got down, he could already tell they were moving towards him fast. Running off at this point wasn't an option and not only that, they had met before so he didn't want to seem suspicious runnjng away.

Stepping out from the structure he ducked behind, Desmond watched as two members out of the group landed on the edge of the rooftop and met his eyes.

Danielle and her teammate. The man covered in black.

"Why are you here?" Daniella questioned as she put her bow down.

"You know this guy?" Her partner asked.

"He's a mutant Xavior asked me to recruit, but he declined. Anyways, where you following us just now?"

Desmond sighed and spoke.

"I was just taking a peek since I randomly saw you guys while I was eating.

"Right…" Staring down at the talisman in his hand, Danielle didn't ask him about it, but was reminded that he was supposed to have powers she'd be interested in knowing more about.

"So it's been a few weeks and we still haven't talked, even us mutants are allowed to text and call friends."

Desmond heard her words clearly, but more than that…he wanted to know why she was wearing such a costume if you could call it that.

A skin tight black and yellow body suit that seemed to fit like a new layer of skin. She had a well trained figure with nice thighs and an apparent strong core. Her arms seemed thin, but when he saw how her muscles flexed pulling the bowstring back he knew she had some good arm strength.

The suit seemed to constrict her chest tightly and it continued into a turtle neck type of style.

"Hey what's with the costume?" He said simply pointing at ger body.

"O-oh this? It's the uniform we wear as X-men. It comes with a lot of advantages when we're fighting and it's more flexible than what you're thinking."

Desmond saw the look she gave him and understood that she was slightly embarrassed and didn't want him having weird thoughts.

"Sorry to split the reunion, but we have to carry out our mission. Let's go Dani."

"Right!!" She turned around to follow her unintroduced companion, but turned back to tell him something.

"I'll text you once in a while, we should hang out sometime and see how similar we are."

"Powers right? I'll text you later today when I'm done with my business."

Nodding towards him, Danielle met up with her group and waved off their teasing. Desmond on the other hand silently cried about how little resistance he has. He tried not to look at her too much, but his eyes still found their way to her backside.

Facepalming, he also remembered he out her number in his phone but simply saved it so he couldn't text her anyway. He'd simply have to wait for her to realize it as well.

"Anyways, I've got some experiments to conduct."
