Yukio and Viper contemplated Max's newfound ability. If this effect could be consistently achieved, Max would be practically invincible. Regardless of the type of attack directed at him, it wouldn't harm him; in fact, it might even rebound on the attacker. It seemed abnormal and almost too much.
Presently, Max could be deemed invincible.
Under any circumstances, he could slip into a different space, effortlessly eluding any traps. He could utilize the door within his body to withstand attacks and could bypass any opponent's defenses by opening a door directly on their body to target vital areas.
If he couldn't be caught, he couldn't be hurt, rendering him as fragile as paper to his adversaries. Such a comprehensive ability made him nearly invulnerable.
The only potential weakness might lie in reaction time.
If he couldn't respond swiftly, all his strengths would be in vain. However, Max could gradually improve this aspect. It appeared that Max was on the brink of achieving true invincibility, and the growth potential of this ability was immense.
"If you think the size isn't ideal and a bit too small, I can help you, and I promise not to leave any scars," Max teased Yukio, who looked down at herself with a displeased expression and then glanced at Viper.
Was it really small?
"It's dinner!" Yukio declared with a black expression and turned to leave.
Max, in a good mood, exchanged smiles with the snake before following her out.
During the meal, Max discussed the Juggernaut gene with Viper. After eating, they returned to their rooms to catch up on sleep.
When Max awoke in the afternoon, he called Lorna to check on her situation. Katie had arrived, and they were resetting the rescued Mutants and discussing future plans. Since it wasn't relevant to Max, after a brief conversation, he hung up.
Observing the sunny weather outside, Max decided to take a stroll.
He believed in focusing when necessary and relaxing when needed. After completing a task, Max always took a break and relaxed for a while. Considering various options, he decided against going to Marriko or Sonia due to their distances and his limited time. Instead, he opted for a simple walk.
Before crossing over, Max made a quick visit to the laboratory. Seeing the tracker removed from Juggernaut next to him, he thought for a moment and put it in his pocket. He then entered the different space, found a parking spot for the car, and left both the car and the tracker there. Max planned to find a place to have a drink and see if he could spot any intriguing targets. As for being recognized as a wanted individual, Max wasn't particularly concerned.
Not long into his walk, Max unexpectedly encountered a familiar face – Lauren.
Donned in tight jeans, a short T-shirt, and long golden hair cascading down her shoulders, Lauren's physique defied her age, exuding an almost explosive vitality.
Observing the direction of Lauren's movement, it became apparent she wasn't heading home. No problem at all. Max decided to follow her.
After about twenty minutes of walking, Max trailed Lauren to a secluded park, surrounded by woods, grasslands, and bathed in warm sunlight.
Lauren set down her schoolbag, retrieved a plastic bottle from it, placed it at a distance, and then retreated about fifty meters.
Taking a deep breath, Lauren adopted a serious demeanor, raising her hands slightly to aim at the plastic bottle.
"Is she practicing her Ability?"
The action persisted for more than ten seconds, but Lauren lowered her hands in frustration as the plastic bottle showed no response.
"What should I do?" Lauren muttered in frustration.
"You need to focus!"
A sudden voice broke the silence, startling Lauren. She turned and saw Max standing behind her.
"It's you!"
Instant recognition struck Lauren. Wasn't this the person who mysteriously appeared in her home that day, privy to her secret? The same person whose wanted warrants had frequently flashed across her TV screen not long ago.
He was a Mutant, a wanted criminal, a supposed terrorist.
Lauren recalled his name – Max, also known as the Sacred Gate.
Recognizing Max, Lauren instinctively scanned her surroundings to ensure there were no onlookers. Satisfied that they were alone, she sighed in relief and said, "Don't you know you're wanted? If they find you, it'll be over."
"No one can catch me if they find me. What's there to be afraid of?" Max responded with a smile. "You, on the other hand, are quite brave, exercising your Ability here. If you were discovered, it would truly be the end for you."
"I just want to protect myself," Lauren explained.
"That's right. You must have heard your father talk about it. The situation for Mutants is becoming increasingly difficult. If your identity is exposed, even your father won't be able to save you."
"What about you? Can you save me?" Lauren asked subconsciously. "I've heard my father talk about you. You've saved many Mutants before. Even the Sentry Secret Service can't touch you. If I'm in danger, will you save me?"
