Walking into the large penthouse, Killian felt mentally exhausted and overwhelmed. He immediately headed upstairs to his room, dropping his body onto an extraordinarily large bed, custom-made by the renowned French designer Louis Sognot. The bed was so comfortable that it instantly induced a deep sleep, a testament to its reputation as the most expensive bed in that timeline.
Three hours later, Killian woke up, realizing that Howard hadn't woken him up for dinner. This probably meant that Howard wasn't home, which made sense given his heavy involvement in the Captain America project. With Howard missing, Killian assumed he was inventing something to find his body, as they had no expectations for his survival.
Sitting up, Killian remembered something and broke into a wide smile, revealing his perfectly white teeth. That day, he had copied Charles Xavier's ability, the future Professor X. Closing his eyes, Killian took a glimpse into his mind, and suddenly, all the information stored within began to resurface. Every forgotten memory, from his past life to the present, came flooding back. The memories felt incredibly vivid, as if he was reliving them. He recalled every detail, every emotion, and every sensation with perfect clarity.
Killian's smile persisted as he discovered he had absolute control over his mind. He could create illusions so powerful that they felt real. He decided to test his abilities by imagining an apple. The illusion was incredibly realistic – he could see the apple's texture, smell its sweet aroma, and even feel its weight in his hand. He brought the illusory apple to his mouth and took a bite. His teeth sank into the crunchy flesh, and the sweetness exploded in his mouth. He chewed and swallowed, the sensation feeling almost tangible.
As he continued to explore his newfound abilities, an unexpected illusion emerged. His surroundings transformed, and he found himself lying in a hospital bed, fully paralyzed from head to toe. The room was filled with an unsettling silence. A woman burst in, her eyes filled with hatred rather than pity. She was crying, and her words cut deep: "Why don't you just die, John?" The illusion vanished, leaving Killian with tears welling up in his eyes.
"You killed me," he whispered, his voice trembling. "No, you made me kill myself." His eyes scrunched up, fighting back the tears. Another vision emerged, this time of a beautiful woman who seemed too perfect, too clean. This was Merry, his new mother. As he gazed at her, his tears began to flow. She was working intently, her glasses slipping down her nose as she pushed them back up. Turning her head, she looked straight into Killian's eyes, and a warm smile spread across her face. Killian's heart swelled, and he couldn't help but smile back.
"She," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "She is my real mother." The words finally escaped his lips, and his silent cries echoed through the darkness of the night.
