Chapter 290 AWAKEN 1

I stood at a corner and watched the doctors take off those things from his body, replacing them with new equipment but fewer this time. A wheelchair was placed in a corner in the room, according to the doctors it's only going to be for a few months. "He's fine now Mrs. Wilson no need to worry anymore, make sure he takes his drugs at the given time." I followed the doctor out of the room.

"You said he might never walk again." The sound of the door closing behind us made us all turn in that direction, the last maid who walked out bowed "He can, infact his bones are healed now but it'll take time ma'am. He needs to be happy to recover quickly so make sure he's always happy." I nodded at his words. "For now we gave him the sleeping pill you asked for I hope you can be comfortable now?" "Yes, thanks." I watched them walk away.

I couldn't inform anyone about his recovery, even if I did they wouldn't be able to come at this hour of the night. Alex is really a selective person, of all the time in the world, he chose to wake up at midnight. I stepped back into the room taking in a deep silent breath in the thought he'd be fast asleep now.

I sat on the chair next to his bed, and luckily he was asleep, the doctor didn't lie about giving him the sleeping drugs. I guess I'm like mum, we create trouble and run away from it afterward, if only he opened up to me earlier about himself. I poked his cheek out of anger, "Ouch, you don't only know how to use your words now you can't keep your hands from a sick man? Just keep staring and don't touch." I blushed at his words, screaming in my head.

Here I thought he was asleep, ahh that lying scumbag of a doctor, "You're awake?" "Did you think my doctors would listen to you?" He asked finally meeting my gaze, I could feel my heart pounding against my chest at his gaze. This is exactly what I was running from, "How long do you plan on sleeping in a sitting position." "It doesn't hurt, I'll leave by morning."

"The kids?" He tried sitting up and I quickly helped him sit, "They're with mother, she said they shouldn't be here." I sat back in my seat, "How long have I been here." "Four (4) months." He closed his eyes letting out a heavy sigh, I had a lot to say but I had to keep my thoughts to myself his recovery was more important. It's not like we're together anymore, Alex is no longer my husband, he owes me nothing now.

.

"Your lawyer brought in the divorce papers." "I was too busy to send it to you myself, did you sign it?" He played dumb even if the man had called earlier to inform him about it. "I did." He met her gaze even though he couldn't believe how easy it was for him to get divorced from the one woman he loves. He was angry at that time, the anger he felt was one he hasn't felt before.

All he thought about was her betrayal, her lies, thinking of everything that happened that day, he felt that anger brewing in his heart again.

"T... The people who shot you... According to the news they're gang members." "So?" Came his curt question. "Will you have your revenge?" "Of course, I will, what else will a drug lord do? You think I'd let this slide?"

She hesitated a little before saying, "Be careful."

"Don't care about me Hazel, I'm a devil that does not deserve your love. We're divorced now, you should look for the saint that'll suit your personality"

           "Alex..."

"I'm still mad at you Hazel, you're the last person I want to see right now." He can't admit to missing her so much, and how he thought of only her and his kids at the last stage of his life. She meant everything to him, but not when she doesn't trust him. He can't be with a woman who would oppose who he is, and take sides with others just at the slightest lies she heard about him.

"I should be the one mad at you and not the other way round Alex." From her words he could tell how angry she's become, he usually laughs at this but this time he wasn't in the mood. If only she knew how much she's hurt him, "What? Not telling you fully about myself even if I've done that before while on our first date." His voice was a bit raised which he tried to calm.

"That..." She paused, "What were you thinking? That I was joking?" "Well, Kendrick told a different story from what you said." His anger intensified at the mention of that name, and his throat and mouth turned dry. Alex tried gulping balls of Saliva down his dried throat, but none was working.

           "What did he say?"

He tried to be as calm as possible, not forgetting the person before him was his love. He was right, his uncle revealed their family secrets to her, but what for?

"What did he say, Hazel?" He asked calmly clutching unto the bedsheet, if he could walk right now he would have dealt with that man himself. "That you killed your Father, blaming the whole incident on Philips's grandfather. What will he do when he finds out his grandfather died unjustly by your hands?"

"You've heard his stories, how he suffered without a father and grandfather, how crueler can you be? How many families do you have to destroy for your amusements or satisfactions?"

"Do you think I'd want a murderer to father my kids?" At this point she ignored the doctor's words, she had to air her mind and thoughts if that's what she had to do. All she's asked for is a peaceful family, she knew no one was perfect but killing people was one thing she could not endure. There's no way she would live peacefully when she knows her husband is a murderer.

"That's why we're divorced, isn't it? You can't change who I am Hazel, the only twist in the story is my father's death. I shot him cause I was forced to, they wanted me to live with the guilt forever." "I warned you not to talk to Kendrick, didn't I? Just what did he say to you and to what extent? It's easy to believe random words about me even after living together for years." "Why wouldn't I when I don't know who you are, how many more things have you lied about since we've been living a lie all this while?"

"And the other people you've harmed? How about you being a drug Lord?" "Let it go, Hazel, we're over now my life choices shouldn't be a bother anymore." He laid on the bed shutting his eyes and head from the world, he was too weak to argue with her. What's the point of doing that when she'd believe other people's words over his, there's nothing he can say now rather than allowing her to believe whatever she wants.

.

I watched him lay on the bed like he's done nothing, I already planned to keep our issues aside for now and concentrate on his recovery, but I really can't tell why I brought that up. I stepped out of the room which felt so suffocating at the moment.
