Chapter 28: Les Miserables

Sam's POV

Sam stared at the satchel laid on his desk.

"What do you want me to do with it?" he asked.

The smell of it was gagging him. He wanted to cover his mouth, but that seemed mildly unprofessional.

The two women who had accompanied Ophelia knew the nature of his relationship with her. Still, it seemed important to maintain some semblance of professionalism.

"I don't know. Start a witch hunt," Lilac suggested, clearly a joke.

"I don't think that would go over well on this campus," Sam mused blandly. "I think, historically, women don't love witch hunts."

Cricket stifled a giggle. It was a girlish noise, out of place here, coming from her nervousness.

"We should probably look into how to dispose of a hex bag," Ophelia suggested.

"I knew I couldn't keep you out of that d*mn library," Sam teased.

Ophelia turned a scarlet blush.

"Please, I am begging you, keep it in your pants while there are lives on the line," Lilac said flatly.

Cricket giggled again, still nervous.
