Luna just finished her dinner with Lily and decided to accompanied her daughter to play jenga. They settled themselves on the carpeted floor in the living room and stacked the jenga on the coffee table. Lily's cheerful giggles could be hear occasionally everytime she successfully pulled out a jenga stick. When the jenga collapsed, they both laughed. They continue to played for several rounds.
When Luna saw her daughter yawned for the umpteenth time while stubbornly trying to stay awake, she coaxed her to went to bed and read some bedtime stories before Lily drifted off to lala land.
She kissed Lily's forehead and rearranged her comforter before she went out the room.
She tidied up the jenga before she went to the dining table to finished her pending works. She just finished replying her last email when suddenly her business phone ringing. She picked up her phone and saw Madam Feng name flashed on the screen. She cleared her throat before sliding the screen to answered the call.
"Luna's speaking."
"Hello, Luna."
"Yes, Madam Feng. How are you doing? Is your son doing okay?"
Madam Feng on the other line was smiling happily when Luna remembered her.
"Yes..yes..I'm good. Jack is good too. How about you?"
"I'm fine too. Is there anything that I can help you with? It's already past 10.30pm." Luna asked while glancing at the wall clock.
"Oh, my bad. Did I disturbed your job? Umm..do you remember my friend whom husband was diagnosed with stomach cancer? At that time I asked you some recipes to helped nurture his health back."
Luna pondered for a while.
"Ah! Yes..yes..I do. How did he fare? Did something happened?" Luna asked worriedly.
"No, no..he's okay. Everything was okay."
Luna heaved a relief sigh.
"Then, what can I do for you, Madam Feng?"
"Oh, that..my friend and her family just moved here. She asked me if I could introduced you to her. I told her that we never met before, just communicated through emails and calls. She was adamant to meet you to express her gratitude. So if you have some time, can I invite you to my home? I want to meet you too."
"Umm..I'm just doing my job. It's nothing remarkable. I'm glad she thought highly of me. Just a thank you is enough."
Luna tried to declined the invitation politely.
"No..it's not enough. You helped my son too. At least, let us properly thank you. Pretty please," Madam Feng pleaded.
Luna rubbed her side temple in distress. Madam Feng was an elder. It did not sit quite well with her when she begged her. She had declined her previous invitations several times as she was busy.
"Let me check my schedule first." Luna relented.
"Yes..yes..please.."
Madam Feng excitedly agreed and waited.
A minutes later, she heard Luna said, "I can squeezed around two hours tomorrow afternoon, 12 noon until 2pm. Is it okay?"
Madam Feng almost jumped up and down because of her excitement.
"Yes..yes..it's perfect. I'll prepared some lunch then. So I'll see you tomorrow. Thank you, Luna. Thank you very much."
Luna softly smiled when she heard the obvious excitement in her voice.
"Yes, see you then. Just text me your address. Take care, Madam Feng."
She disconnected the call and seconds later, her phone beeped.
Luna continued her works and by the time she finished them, it was already 11.45pm. She watched the clock and realized that her husband not home yet.
She sighed when she recalled back their discussion yesterday night. It was stalemate. They did not reach any conclusion.
When Alex told her he had a girlfriend, she truly did not feel surprised as she had encountered them acting intimately twice. But to hear it from his mouth, she felt betrayed. So she kept mum to stabilized her emotions. She did not want to cry in front of him.
Then when he asked if she ever loved him, she felt very hurt. They had been in relationship for two years and married for three years. Five whole years together.
They first met at Mu Corp's launch event. He was an upstart and aspiring businessman, trying to build connection here and there. They had been an acquaintance for several months and when he courted her, she accepted as she was trying to forget her unrequited first love. Along the two years they had been together, she learned to accept and cherished him. Then when he proposed a marriage to her during her 23rd birthday, she accepted and they got married a month after.
She learned to love him wholeheartedly as she dreamed him as her forever. She resigned from her position when she found out she was pregnant a week after their marriage consummation. She want to focused on her marriage and her baby. At the same time, she helped him to build some connections, stay awake to accompany him making his business plans and proposals, took care of him and gave him encouragements when he felt down. She birthed his daughter and took great care of them.
So when he asked if she ever loved him, she felt insulted and hurt. Can't he see and feel her sincerity? If she never loved him, did she need to stay by his side all this years? No, she rather doing other things than wasted her time on him. How ridiculous.
