Nightmare

'Raiden…..Raiden...…..Raiden...…...Raiden.'

'Huh?'

'Do you remember?'

'Remember what?'

'That night.'

'Which?'

'How can you forget?'

'I don't understand?'

'That night, Raiden. That night. When I… when I.. I lost my hand.'

'Sheila….?'

'And, that night when you let me die.'

'Wait…'

'And, when everyone else died because of you.'

'What are you talking about?'

'Also, when you killed those innocents.'

'No! No! No! Stop! I had no choice but to do that. There was no other option. I didn't want things to turn out that way.'

'Neither we did, Raiden.'

'Toshi…?'

'First you shot the bullet then left us to die there.'

'No! No! I didn't want that to happen. Not in a million years.'

'Yet, you fired.'

'Kingslayer…. and... everyone?'

'Yeah, you are our killer.'

'You should have died instead.'

'You couldn't even save what you wanted.'

'You killed innocents.'

'You were the cursed one to begin with.'

'You bought misery upon all of us.'

'You should have killed yourself.'

'You justified your evil actions.'

'You are the reason our souls can't rest in peace.'

'YOU. ARE. THE. KILLER.'

'STOP IT! Just stop! I can't.. just can't.. take this anymore.. please, kill me if you want.'

'No Raiden. You can't die just yet. Don't you know what you should do now?'

'What do you mean, Sheila?'

'What? You don't understand? Just do what you did with us.'

'Huh? What is it? Sheila.'

'What else? Kill Joel.'

'What?'

'Yes. It's your fate Raiden. That's why you were the only survivor. You were destined to live alone in this world.'

'No! There is no way I'll kill Joel.'

'It's not up to you to decide. It's us, whom you killed, to choose.'

'But.. But.. I didn't kill you.'

'Poor Raiden, just look how pathetic you have become.'

'Do the deed, Raiden.

'Do it.'

'Kill Joel.'

'Yeah, slay him like you slay those zombies.'

'Just finish him off.'

'Show him what kind of monster you are.'

'No. No… This is nonsense. I- I- I'm not a MONSTER.'

'Oh really? Can you really say that while looking at your past self.'

'My past self?'

'Yes.'

'Me… In the past…. A monster? No way!

'But still, you did all these terrible things. Didn't you?'

'I had no choice! I did all of that just so we all could survive.'

'You are saying that yet we all are dead Raiden, except for you.'

'I tried my best to save you all but… I failed.'

'You failed miserably yet you are living your life. Do the deed Raiden, kill Joel and then take your life too.'

'No!!!'

"NO!!!!!"

"Raiden?"

Water came splashing down on Raiden's face. His eyes opened and he pulled up furiously.

"Hey! What the hell? You were screaming like crazy."

Raiden was shocked from what he just heard. He was tensed and scared. He looked up and saw Joel standing there with a bottle in his hand.

"A nightmare?" Raiden whispered.

"Was it really a dream? Looked like you were dying out here."

"It's.. It's all fine." Raiden said that but he didn't look fine at all.

Joel kneeled down. "Hey! Look if it's something that happened in the past do not let it haunt you-"

Raiden looked at Joel with a deadly grim in his eyes. "Do not talk as if you know what my past is," he said with full anger in his voice.

Joel backed off.

Raiden came back to his usual self and realized he shouldn't have said that to Joel.

"I'm sorry," he apologized.

"No worries. You should take some rest, I think," Joel said as he was leaving the car.

Raiden laid on his back again. His right hand over his eyes, fully covering it, trying to hide his remorse.

"I didn't kill them," he murmured.

Joel turned around when he heard Raiden speak but didn't understand what he said as his voice was so low. Joel didn't think of it as much and left.

Raiden laid straight on the ground staring the top of the coach now.

'I wonder, where did it all go so wrong?'

'Could I have saved them?'

'Was there a different outcome to all of this?'

'I wonder, where did it all go so wrong…...?'

[Few Days Before Virus Broke Out]

'My name is Raiden. I was 18 at that time. Just a normal high school student who lived a normal life.

We were a middle class family. I was the only child of my parents. My father was a salary man and mother was a teacher. We three lived our regular life doing nothing out of the ordinary. Just living a robotic life to some how try to live to the very end.

My parents usually were always fighting with each others. The time they didn't fight were when, when they were busy doing their work or when they were sleeping. There was not a single day that passed without them having an argument.

Just a normal life of a middle class family. Worrying more about money than your actual family. I always felt that I was a burden to them. I wasn't good in studies and was never interested in any other activities. But, whatever I did in my life they never seemed to care about it. I could feel that they were tired of living.

"Living?" "What is living?" "Why do we live?"

That was a question I always had in my mind.

We live, earn money, marry, have children, care about their living, then die.

Why though?

What is our motive?

If we tend to just die at the end so why does it even matter to live?

As a kid or as of my current age, I never understood those things. I just lived my life for the sake of living. I had no "goals" in my entire life. It all just felt so empty. I just simply couldn't care about things around me.

It was just a simple life of nothing extraordinary.

Just trying my best to "survive".

Still I never knew what good would come out of me surviving in this world.'
