Jack-of-all-trade, The Skill Borrower

Warning I lost most of my work for this, just the writing would have sucked but I also lost my huge amount of planning and its too much work to try and rebuild what I was writing, so I’ve stopped writing this and started a new novel. 01 05 - The Forgotten Book

As I opened the door, I was greeted by a huge amount of dust, making me cough heavily. Once it calmed down, I peaked inside to see that it was just as abandoned as it was outside. It felt like it was pulling me in, I wanted to see more. I walked in and began to look around, everything was neat but covered in dust and just plain old.

There was a kitchen and a living room, then I walked upstairs to the second room, there was a bedroom, then a study room.

The study room was where everything important seemed to be in. There were many books and papers all over the place. It was quite cool.

I walked towards the desk that sat in front of the window, it was a dark wooden table that looked beautiful even with all the dust.

Then I noticed a little note right in the middle of the table as I read it out.

"To whoever has entered, it shows your heart is full of rightness, even if others see it as selfishness, the true reason behind it is from your own selfishness. Your heart of gold let you pierce through the magic barrier."

I thought for a moment, before re-reading the note. It made sense why it seemed like the little path came out of nowhere and how I couldn't see the path to the farm from behind.

The whole thing was strange, it felt like I just opened a hidden boss room or something. Then it hit me, if it's hidden, then there was something important here. I began to look around the office, looking at each books that were in the walls, most where just stories or historical books until I grabbed one and suddenly got zapped by it.

"Ouch!"

I shouted and dropped the book. I looked down, as I saw the title of the children's book "The ugly ducking" slowly turn into a book titled "The borrower of power." I slowly picked it up again, carefully not to get shocked again, this time I didn't.

I stared down at the book before opening it before it suddenly flashed me with a bright light. Then a window popped up.

"Wait- mandatory?? I don't have a choice?"

I mean, it still seemed pretty cool, but I don't even know what I get out of it. Though the title does sound pretty cool. I grin to myself before notice the book disappear in my hand.

"Well, that's for that."

I stood there slightly confused, before I decided to open the quest once more to read it. There wasn't much into it, it seemed like your typical quest. I decided to look around a little more just to see if I could find anything I could sell, I grabbed this old antique letter cutter and a pocket watch, though I might keep it for myself only because it looked cool and it was easier to see real time than having to open settings all the time.

I headed back out, before I fully exited the house a window suddenly popped up.

.

The house is set to self destruct.

Run.

.

I stared at it for a moment before taking a final step beyond the door and suddenly a ten second timer began to count down. I was wide eyed before I started running.

"With all that happened I don't think I should question it!"

I shouted before leaving the magical space area, looking behind me before I fully left as I had a small glimpse of the explosion, then once I was out, I felt a small rumble.

I waited for a moment before I tried to walk back in, but where the barrier was, past it was nothing but a plain empty forest ground.

"Is it those type of quest that only one person could get? I should search this up later on."

I gave myself self notes before walking back towards the starter town. I might as well begin my quest right?

I looked down at the hand watch, it was currently 8pm, I had no work either so I was safe to stay up late, though I should probably visit my mother as well.

I soon reached the starter town and looked around, there was some new players walking around but most just seemed to be people who had to come back since their quest told them to come back. Thought it didn't really matter to me.

My first thought was to go to the chief of the town, as per usual, he was standing around the town hall, humming a tune as I walked over to him waving.

"Hello!"

I shouted as he waved back.

"If it ain't the young boyo I sent! Hope that old farmer didn't make yer do much."

I just chuckled awkwardly looking away as I was reminded of the painful training, even thought it was only the start.

"Haha.. anyways I have a question, do you know about, uh, the borrrower hero?"

He had to be a hero right? I hope so- what If he's a evil demon.. oh no-

"Oh man! I haven't heard that name in so long hoho! A good, yet strange man, what made yer ask about him sonny?"

Chief Wae Li seemed to suddenly get serious as he stared at me.

"Er, well.."

I was struggling, should I even tell him I found the book? I mean he's just an npc but gaining that skill suddenly made feel cautious about, well everything. Then a thought came in that I knew would save me.

"The library! I saw this old book and it talked about him! Haha.."

I mumbled hopefully it worked as the man in front of me just stared before having the usual smile he had again.

"I see I see! Well not many knew about him, but you could say he was the type to stay in his house for many days doing who knows what!"

It seemed like that was the most information I could get out of him, so I just nodded and waved good bye, now walking to the tavern in the town to talk to the man there, the owner.

There was quite a few people there drinking and talking, but I paid no mind to other. I walked over to the tavern owner and asked the same thing, he gave me the same answer really.

I went to the other villagers and it was the same, maybe different habits here and there but not much.

I opened my quest bar to see how far I was in with the quest.

Main Mandatory Quest: The borrower's descendant

Chapter one - Quest completion: 75%

.

Wow, just them saying the same stuff was enough? Well anyways, I needed to figure out what else I can learn about them. Then I remembered, there must be some sort of information trading system right?

I searched around and even asked some random players, they thought I was crazy for a moment before someone finally spoke out and talked about it. Following the directions, I found myself back at the tavern. I was told to say something specific to the owner which I did, then I was brought to the second floor.

There was a woman in red, and man this didn't even feel like a game anymore, was I in a novel?? Anyways enough of the mindless thoughts.

"Do you kn-"

I was suddenly hushed by the other as she opened her palm.

"There is no information that's free."

She smiled evilly and I had no choice but to give the money I had.

"Hmm, well this is good enough."

She spoke before I cleared my throat ready to ask the question once more.

"Do you know about the borrower hero?"

She was quiet for a moment, looking baffled by the sudden request before she got her composure once again.

"Well, I think I know of an old story, the man who could borrow the skills of others."

I blinked confused but it made sense of the title, why he was called the borrower and the Jack of all trades. I was in thoughts before I noticed she was staring, once she realized she had my attention again, she then continued.

"I only know about him since my father told me about him. He told me he saw the hero himself, he was a merchant and so was the hero, and in a moment of crisis he saw the hero do spells that were from all different types of sources, fire, water, air, and all the other types of magic, the hero wasn't bound to one type of magic like others."

She spoke diligently and sternly but she looked like she's been a fan of the hero for a while, but I had another question.

"Is it that rare for someone to have more attributes of magic?"

She nodded as she then continued to explain to me and answer my question.

"Most magicians, people in general are stuck to one single class once they choose it, basic classes have common types of magic which the hero did a lot, but the special types of magic, the hero only seemed to do it once. The title of borrower didn't actually come until my father talked about the time he saw the hero fight a Beast with a special type magic, and it looked like it was sucked into a card held by the borrower, and then the magic was used in a different fight."

There was a lot of information as the moment the woman spoke, a sudden window appeared, the quest was finished. I didn't want to look at it here though.

"Thank you for the information ma'am, I have enough knowledge of him."

I smiled and walked out, as I was walking down the empty hall I decided to open the quest window.

.

This felt so OP, but there was still throwbacks to stop me from becoming a god, I couldn't help but have a cheeky grin as the person walking by hit my shoulder.

"Oh sorry bout that!"

I bowed but the other merely stared and continued their walk.

"Well, kind of rude but whatever."

Realizing the time, it was getting late, I might as well sleep now. So once out of the tavern, I decided to end it for today and logged out heading to bed. I wanted to visit my mother at least in the afternoon tomorrow.

.

.

The man continued his walk entering the information trading room. The woman about to ask for money as the man slammed a bag of gold coins on her desk.

"Do you know any information on where the book of the borrower hero could be?"

The hooded man spoke as the lady seemed surprised.

"Two people asking of the same topic at the same day of the same thing, strange."

This made the man have a surprised face as he ran out of the tavern just in the moment that Lee Gihyuk logged out. He stood there somewhat furious.

"He must have known about the Legendary class.."

The man turned around and went back to the tavern grabbing the bag.

"There is no need for the information now. I have my clue."

He spoke before heading out once again.

"Who ever you are.. I'll find you."

To be continued...
