Chapter 61

'' Say Kana, what's an ear made of?''

'' Well-''  the girl hummed before adding ''- mainly cartilage and some skin.'' she said looking thoughtfully ahead

'' Like chicken gristle?'' Danuja asked again making Kana laugh startled

'' I suppose so. Why? Did something happen?'' Kana asked looking unsubtlety at Danuja ears making the girl snort, before taking their seats '' Do you want to pierce your ears?''

'' That's not for me.'' Danuja said smiling down at Kana ''Just curious of it.'' Danuja said shrugging, stretching her legs under the desk until their were right under Kana chair. Whatever Kana wanted to add was interrupted by their teacher who was calling for attention.

Cartilage huh she couldn't help but think while looking at their teacher explaining, something.

Now if Danuja thought, this explication sounded better than whatever she thought before. After all, when she was still small and didn't know how to save money for the next mouth bills, Danuja would buy herself a meal at the convenience store, heat the chicken leg up before eating it whole.

The bone never escaped her even if it was tougher and has a weird taste. And it never did for some years, till Danuja finally understood how bills are handled.

So at the end it wasn't really a surprise that Danuja bite that guy ear off, that she was capable f it in the first place. She has experience after all.

'' Welcome! Oh! Danuja-chan, come, come there are some boxes in the back.'' Hitomi-san said before serving the client before her. A young mother that was becoming a regular by the looks of it.

'' Sure.'' Danuja said, leaving her mostly empty bag on a nearby chair before glancing back at Dad, who was playing with a stray dog. Danuja didn't mind if they didn't fight or her dog ends up with fleas.

After watching Kana leave with her car Danuja couldn't help but think again at those blasted Clubs and what Kana told her. It didn't look like Kana would say anything about a club she wanted to join so the next best thing was to find a club that she would surely enjoy.

She could do that right?  Danuja thought to herself while lifting a box of frozen meat before dumping it in the ice, going for the other boxes

She did say she liked cooking but she looked more sad than anything  she thought, putting the vegetables in their places  No sports that's for sure  she couldn't help but snort at that thought, remembering how pouty looking Kana was before every P.E. class.

'' Hitomi-san-'' Danuja said after she finished her work, returning to the front and seeing the woman clean the now empty table ''- where you in a Club when you were in school?'' she asked feeling a little foolish when the woman laughed at her

'' Aish Danuja-chan, I didn't even have Clubs in school when I was at that age.'' Hitomi-san said laughing before adding  '' Though I liked cooking for my friends and any boyfriends I had at that time.'' she said winking at Danuja while laughing '' Why is that?''

'' Ah. A friend of mine couldn't decide where to join. Their school has a mandatory rule about joining Clubs.'' Danuja said making the woman hum

'' I quite liked Garden Duty at that time.'' Hitomi-san said while smiling  '' To see the flowers bloom and grow day by day, to clean them of anything dangerous for the poor plants. I even liked to change the flowers soil and move them to a pot to another.'' the woman said laughing before saying a tale about her younger days that Danuja wasn't listening to

There was a memory in Danuja mind, one where amethyst eyes looked sadly at dead flowers.

'' What it is?'' Danuja asked gently seeing Kana mood dropping, despite holding her favorite sweet in her hand

'' Oh-'' Kana said taking her eyes off the dried flowers looking startled at Danuja  ''- sorry, the air it's a little stuffy.'' the girl said making Danuja look at the closest stall, a couple of meters away from them that was selling steamed pork chops. She quickly put a hand around Kana shoulders, guiding her towards other stalls that were much emptier and didn't smell that strongly.

There were a few but Danuja did her search thoroughly. 

'' - don't you think I'm right?'' Hitomi-san said, getting Danuja out of her memories, looking at her expectantly

'' Of course you are.'' Danuja agreed easily and without pause before adding '' And then?'' she asked making the woman continue

Two days later, Danuja showed up in front of the teacher lounge bowing her head half heartly at the unknow teacher till she stopped in front of her own homeroom teacher. There was a small sign with his name on it.

'SASAKI MAMORU'

'' Sasaki-sensei?'' Danuja asked making the man glance at her before looking dubiously at her

'' Sora-san?'' he asked back narrowing her eyes at her '' It's this about your strangely, perfectly average grads or you finally come with a Club to join at?'' the man said making Danuja narrow her eyes slightly

'' I want to join a club actually.'' she said making the man get out some thick, unfamiliar book before opening it at a green mark where the words 'SPORTS' could be seen clearly

'' Enlighten me.'' he said twirling a pen around his fingers

'' The Gardening Club.'' Danuja said smirking when the man turned at her full of disbelief before clearing his throat. He stared at her expressionless face for some time before snorting

'' You know what fine.'' he said switching the page of the book before adding '' I suppose Shishijima-san it's joining you?''

'' That's right.'' Danuja said nodding while crossing her arms

'' If you say so.'' the man said making Danuja frown annoyed '' As a first year there needs to be at last two members of the club. Also because of complains from some spoiled kids the club room it's dirty, dusty and a little broken. There are also some strange red spots on the wall from chemicals.'' he said stamping something down

'' We can clean it up.'' Danuja said shrugging

'' Also, there's no budged for the club. Sure you can use the old tools and everything but I'm not sure about anything else really.'' he shrugged giving Danuja the stamped file

'' We can manage.'' Danuja said snatching the file satisfied

'' Let's hope so Miss Club President.'' he said waving her away. Once outside the room, Danuja looked down at the file.
