In the dead of night, the detention center lay shrouded in utter darkness.
Yang Hongxia, who had suffered a severe beating that afternoon, was crouched on her wooden bunk, shivering uncontrollably. Her eyes darted from time to time to the other beds in the room, particularly those of Luo Qiaorong and Sister Mei, filled with dread.
There was no help for it; the people in the room were too cunning. When they struck, they would all descend upon her with pillows before swarming in to beat her mercilessly. By the time the guards came to check, they would immediately stop.
Yang Hongxia had complained several times, hoping the guards would help her change rooms, but they would retort, "Do you think the detention center will let you change rooms whenever you want?" which effectively shut her down.
As soon as the guards left, Luo Qiaorong and Sister Mei would lead another round of torment against Yang Hongxia.
