I was surprised when I didn't wake up the next day but rather in the afternoon, and Dylan wasn't there when I awoke.
I decided to take a walk to the greenhouse, and to my delight, I met my friend, Jeremy.
As we sat there, I finally decided to ask some of the questions that had been bothering me.
"I'm guessing you're one of them?" I inquired.
"Have this. It will help with your headache," he said, handing me a bottle filled with a pink liquid. I sniffed it, and it had a pleasant scent, like freshly cut roses.
"It's an herb. It relieves pain," he explained.
"Thank you, but you didn't answer my question," I replied.
"Yeah, I am," he admitted.
"So your name is not Jeremy?"
"I'm surprised he revealed all this to you," Jeremy said with a grin.
"That's not the answer to my question," I pressed.
"It's Xander."
"That's a nice name. Can I know your story?"
"Why didn't you ask him about our story?"
"He had to go somewhere when I woke up, so I couldn't ask him."
"Alright, then I shall tell you my story," Xander began.
"Our family was a happy one, not perfect but happy. We were on our way to celebrate my sixteenth birthday when a fatal accident changed everything. We lost both of our parents. It was at that time that we were changed into what we are now—blood-sucking monsters."
"Why are you and your brother not close anymore?" I asked.
"You could say it was a power struggle, unfair treatment. Anyways, I left, and well, no one really seems to be looking for me anymore," he explained.
"Your brother doesn't even know you're here? Wow," I remarked.
"Don't tell him that I am," he said sternly.
"Why shouldn't I? I think he'll be glad to see you if he was looking for you."
"Didn't you get the whole struggle for power story, princess?" Xander replied.
"Firstly, don't call me princess, and what power?" I questioned.
"You're not getting any more information from me, princess," he teased, lightly pressing the bridge of my nose. I tried to slap his hand but ended up accidentally slapping my own nose.
He chuckled and stood up. I quickly followed suit.
"Are you leaving?" I asked.
"Yes, Jessica, I have a lot of work to attend to," he explained.
"Can't you stay for a few more minutes?" I whined.
"Sorry, princess, I gotta go," he said before vanishing almost immediately.
