Elena Gilbert had experienced one of the most unbelievable nights of her life. From Bonnie lying about disabling the Gilbert device to Katherine returning and hospitalising John. However, this was by far the most unexpected.
Sitting in her living room with the two Salvatore brothers, they had been discussing what to do about Katherine when Stefan interrupted, "Katherine isn't our only problem" He grimaced.
Hearing this Elena looked confused, "What do you mean?" She frowned. Tonight had already been bad enough, she didn't need more problems.
Making eye contact with his brother, they silently agreed to tell her about the events that took place in the basement. So they recounted the details of what happened, Richard Lockwood being killed in there. Baby Lockwood appearing with his little girlfriend. Kira snapping Damon's neck. The glowing eyes.
Elena couldn't believe what she was hearing. "So you're telling me that the Lockwoods, a family I've known since I was born, and Kira Shaw aren't human? But they're not vampires or witches either?" She held her head in shock, not sure what to make of this.
Damon and Stefan were no better off. If they aren't vampires, what are they? Who are they? Enemies or allies? As much as they craved answers, there was an evil doppelgänger on the loose impersonating Elena. They had more pressing problems at hand.
...
Tyler and I both stood at the Lockwood mansions entrance welcoming the guests and thanking them for coming. Today was the day that half of Mystic Falls had visited to pay their respects to the beloved Mayor Lockwood and his family.
Tyler had put up a strong front thinking his mom needed him to be the man now, but I could see that he was hurting. Badly.
Welcoming another stranger a familiar scent drifted along the breeze, catching our attention. Our heads snapped in the direction of the smell, leading us to... "Elena?" Tyler whispered in horror.
Walking up the steps of the mansion was one Katerina Petrova, or as most would call her Katherine Pierce.
It seemed she'd heard Tyler, smiling in our direction. She eventually stopped in front of us both, "Hey Tyler, I'm so sorry about your dad." She said, fake sympathy lacing her voice.
Seeing the shocked look on his face my hand latched onto Tyler's wrist, breaking him out of his stupor. Deciding to take over I put on a fake smile, "Thanks Elena, he's just a bit tired. Why don't you head inside? Enjoy yourself, the food is free"
Katherines eyes narrowed as she took the both of us in, she couldn't enter without Tyler inviting her in. "Actually I cant stay for long, only came to give my condolences to an old friend," Exchanging a few quick goodbyes she fled the scene.
That had gone completely different from canon. In the show Tyler had not suspected a thing and invited Katherine into his house where she'd met Bonnie and attacked her.
My partner in crime looked ready to explode in anger, his eyes shining gold. It was obvious he was pissed about 'Elena being turned'. Harshly nudging him in the ribs I gestured to a second group heading this way. It was Elena, Jenna and Jeremy.
The actual Elena.
Signalling to play it cool we welcomed the Gilbert's inside. Something that I noticed was the way Elena looked Tyler and I. It was a look of fear, curiosity and something else. It seemed she heard about our little run in with her boyfriends.
Tyler was more bewildered than he'd ever been. Before he even got the chance to gather his thoughts another surprise pulled up in a red pickup truck. "Uncle Mason?" He blinked.
"Tyler! Is that you?" Mason laughed merrily. Without waiting he gave his nephew a big hug, "You've grown. A lot!" He boomed
Seeing the uncle that had gone awol for the last seven years walk up his doorstep, he did his best to shove aside the currently mind boggling thoughts. "So the black sheep returns?" Tyler chuckled.
Although all seemed normal on the surface, a different game was being played behind the curtains. Mason could smell the wolf on both of them, and vice versa. He realised that the two teens in front of him had triggered their curse. "Tyler. It seems we've got some catching up to do" He grinned halfheartedly.
Giving him the silent go ahead, I took over the job of welcoming the guests. I trusted Tyler not to tell him about our plan to break the curse and become Hybrids.
As I invited in another guest my eyes locked onto Damon Salvatore and Bonnie Bennett already inside. The former staring right back at me. It was clear their little group didn't plan to confront us until they learned more. For all they knew we could be some mega supernatural species that could kill them whenever we wanted.
It was the smart move on their behalf, but advantaged us wolves. Until the full moon we were hardly a threat for the vampires and witches in town, it was best to avoid them for now.
....
It was the following morning and I sat in Richard Lockwoods old office along with Mason. After asking Tyler about his uncle yesterday I learnt that Mason didn't mention his pack, but did ask about the moonstone. After hearing about his uncles enquiries Tyler insisted we tell him something. So he set up a meeting.
"So what does the little alpha want with me this early?" Mason chuckled as he put down his breakfast sandwich.
Ignoring the alpha joke I leaned forward "I want to talk about the curse of the sun and the moon" I answered bluntly, not holding back.
Hearing this Masons eyes narrowed. "Really? And what do you now about the curse?" He grumbled threateningly.
Oh. It seemed that got his attention, "I know how to break it, and I know what actual curse is." Mason raised an eyebrow at the last part.
He was currently working with Katherine Pierce to break the curse, albeit for different purposes. Katherine wanted to gather all the ingredients to break the curse in hopes of exchanging it with Klaus for her freedom. Mason believed Katherine was helping to break his curse because she was in love with him, unaware that his version of the 'curse of the sun and the moon' was fake and he was just being used.
I could feel a headache coming on. Why was this so difficult?
Taking a deep breath I began explaining. First showing him a picture of Elena Gilbert and going from there. I told him the curse was fake and that the only way for us to escape the full moons grasp was to become a Hybrid.
Although Mason loved Katherine, it was obvious he didn't trust her. That's why he hid the moonstone down a well filled with vervain in canon.
I purposely refrained from mentioning the original family and true contents of the curse. "I know how to break the actual curse and help us become half vampire, but I need you to stay away from Katherine. Forget about her Mason. You mean absolutely nothing to that 500 year old vampire" I insisted.
Mason sat in silence trying to process everything. The curse was fake, and this little girl knew what the true curse was? She knew how to break it too? Half vampires?
How could he believe any of that?
But looking back to the photo of Elena Gilbert he knew there more Katherine wasn't telling him. There were times when she seemed... different. Distant. Looking into my eyes Mason remained silent. He was searching for something.
He came to a decision, "I'm not saying I believe you Kira, but you've taken care of Tyler and helped him through everything. I can't thank you enough for that," He confessed sincerely. "So I know you would never want to hurt my nephew, and you actually believe what you're saying. Staying away from Katherine isn't a problem for me.
"She doesn't love me, it's been obvious for a while now. Just didn't want to lose hope that she might love me back. I'll lay low for a while, she'll probably think I'm dead or have skipped town." Masons eyes suddenly flashed a menacing gold, "By doing this I'm putting my trust in you. In the promises you're making. If you don't deliver, or try to betray me...." he trailed off with a growl.
"You don't have to worry about me. Oh and wait a while before you ghost Katherine..."
