6 Chapter 6

I watched from within the crowd as Tyler had his fun dominating the arm wrestling competition at Mystic Falls's carnival. Competitor after competitor lost to his inhuman strength, that was until Mason stepped up.

I couldn't help but smirk, getting closer in interest. Tyler seemed more than happy to take up the challenge. The crowd cheered as Mason took his place across the table.

The challenge took longer than most with the both of them looking strained. The table beneath them creaked loudly from the pressure whilst sweat dripped from their heads. Once Tyler noticed the attention being drawn he purposely began to lose.

The crowd burst into a third round of cheers as Mason finally took Tyler down. "Alright he's the champ! Who's wants to go next!?" Tyler called out.

"Uhh, my brother wants a go." A voice sounded from the sidelines. My eyes locked onto one Damon Salvatore, pushing Stefan into the middle.

The rest of this turned out as expected with Stefan drastically holding back, but using enough strength to test Mason, eventually losing.

....

It was later that night, around 2am, that I wore an all black hoodie with black sweatpants, black gloves and black shoes. My face was hidden beneath a balaclava and I had a backpack with me. My outfit screamed criminal. However this was all necessary for what I was about to do, couldn't risk my actions being traced back to me.

I quickly walked down the streets of Mystic Falls, soon arriving at the Gilbert residence. This was it. With a small run up I leapt into the air, kicking off one of the houses pillars I grabbed onto the ledge of Elena's window.

Phew. Holding on with one arm, the other worked to quietly open her window. It seemed the teen always left it unlocked for Stefan's surprise visits. Once the gap was big enough my body slid through silently. Unfortunately not silent enough as the asleep doppelgänger began to stir.

Shit. She was waking up. Inwardly cursing I moved as fast as possible. Appearing beside the exhausted teen my right arm cocked back and impacted the side of her head. Elena went perfectly still, she was alive, but I'd probably damaged her brain with that hit. Best case scenario was a concussion, worst case...?

Reaching into my bag I pulled out 12 syringes the local pharmacy sold to me. One after the other they were filled to the brim with precious doppelgänger blood. Each syringe held about a ML. After gently putting them away I pulled out a small glass container that held the blood of vampire Ben McKittrick.

Lifting Elena up so she was sat up straight, my hand tilted her head back whilst the blood was poured into her mouth. All the puncture wounds and any other injuries she had healed instantly. Before leaving I made sure she was comfortably tucked in bed and any traces of my presence were erased.

Stepping foot on the streets of Mystic Falls a sense of victory hit me. That had gone perfectly. Elena's blood was key when it came to becoming a hybrid and I couldn't risk it not being available to me in the future. Not to mention Klaus would be unaware of the part the doppelgängers blood would play in the creation of hybrids, so when he turned me I'd die in transition.

When that day came I didn't plan to stick around Mystic Falls as one of Klaus's sired pets. You'd find me long gone.

....

"Werewolves?" Elena asked skeptically. Alaric had taken Damon and her to Isobel's old office at duke university where her research on the supernatural was left untouched. After hours of reading the only thing that made sense was werewolves, but that was impossible because they didn't exist.

Damon was just as disbelieving, "Uh-uh, I've been on this planet 160 some odd years and have never come across one. If werewolves exist, where the hell are they?" He questioned.

They came to the conclusion that werewolves were few in number after being hunted almost to extinction by vampires centuries ago.

....

Lockwood Mansion

I watched as Mason made a call to his pack back in Florida to deliver one of the werewolves they had captive to him. Violence between werewolf packs wasn't uncommon due to disputes over territory. In fact they happened more often than you'd imagine.

His pack had a small number of enemy wolves locked up from previous conflicts and I'd asked him to sacrifice one for the hybrid curse. Although initially turned off by the idea of becoming half vampire, he was smart enough to realise its advantages, especially compared to remaining a werewolf.

"It's done. I managed to get them to agree, the prisoner should be here some time this week." Mason informed.

So we got our werewolf, and we got our doppelgänger. All that remained was a vampire. That could be left up to Klaus considering he could create vampires whenever he pleased. Besides we can't do all the work for him. Now we just had to stay safe and wait for the original brothers to arrive in town.

Watching Mason pace back and forth I came to a decision, "Hey, about those vampires in town. The Salvatore brothers, don't provoke them. Do your best to avoid getting into a fight with those two, and the Bennett witches," I didn't want him dying the same way as canon. Tied to a chair and cruelly executed by Damon.

Mason bristled at my advice, but took it in stride. He knew it was best to wait until he had the strength to back up his desires. "So what now?" Mason sighed.

Pausing for a moment I answered, "Now we wait. All the pieces are in place to break the curse, and we can't risk dying before that. You should ghost Katherine once that captive arrives, stay in hiding and keep your head down" Mason nodded his head in affirmation, "Tyler and I will take the next few weeks off school and go into hiding as well.

"Katherine will probably try to use our families to get to us, thinking we have the moonstone, so make sure Tyler's mom is safe. Most vampires haven't been invited into this place so keep it that way. I'll let you know when the time comes."

Mason accepted she was right, yet had one last thought on his mind, "What about my pack? In Florida. I can't take this opportunity and leave them cursed, they need to be apart of this," He insisted.

I could understand where he was coming from, he just didn't want to betray his pack. "Don't worry about that. Once we becomes hybrids it won't be difficult to make more"

...

The full moon had arrived later that night and the three of us stood in the Lockwood cellar. We chained ourselves up, drunk water diluted in wolfsbane, waiting for the moon to hit its peak.

Once it did the transformation begun. Mason was the first to complete his turn being the most experienced, followed by me and Tyler respectively. I blacked out the same as always.

....

Using the night as their cover three shadows sped through the old Lockwood property. They had followed the tracks the possible werewolves left behind and began to hear howling.

Caroline shivered at the intimidating sound, "Looks like you're right. They might actually be werewolves." She muttered breathlessly.

Damon smirked in victory, happy they'd guessed right whilst Stefan remained solemn to the new threat. Legend said that a werewolf bite was fatal to vampires, this was bad news in his books.

They got closer and closer until the cellar entrance came into view. After the first attempt to get in it was clear the cellar was separate from the main Lockwood property and they'd need to be invited inside to enter. Although they couldn't get in, the feral noises echoing inside created a vivid picture.

"What are we gonna do?" Caroline asked nervously. She'd only just been turned by Katherine, the bitches way of sending a message, and now werewolves were real as well. It was a miracle she was coping so well.

"We kill them" Damon smirked.

Stefan was quick to counter, "No we don't. They aren't our enemy, Katherine is. We don't get in their way and they won't get in ours. Let's not create unnecessary enemies Damon."

The two of them went back and forth, eventually deciding to leave the wolves alone, but if they stepped out of line these vampires wouldn't hesitate to kill them.
