THE MAID TO THE DUNCAN FAMILY

" Please! I promise I'll be more careful. Don't do this please. I haven't healed from the previous one."

Mrs. Duncan smirked "Don't worry. it'll be over before you know it."

I saw her hand go to the switch and I screamed as the electrocution began.

I shouldn't have let my guard down!

I should have been more careful...I thought to myself as I screamed in pain.

It felt like my subconsciousness was leaving my body and watching it writhe beneath the large amount of electricity going on through my brain.

My life is a living nightmare.

Earlier that day.

I stared at the tray of half eaten food, I couldn't even call it half eaten, it looked like it hadn't been touched at all.

Well, except a few plucks of grapes here and there and just a tiny scoop of eggs.

I guess that's what you get for giving a three course meal to a two-year old.

I sighed and packed the food into a small lunch box, no way am I letting such copious amounts of food go to waste.

I arranged the plates in the dishwasher and turned to the cake I was baking.

Just in case it hasn't clicked in yet, I am the live-in maid of the Duncan Family.

A family of five from Scottish descent but there was nothing Scottish about how they lived.

Except this gigantic castle that they call home which is adorned with numerous appliances and technologies.

Mr. Lachlan Duncan, plain brown hair and brown eyes with a handsome elderly face, is as American as they come.

He inherited the house from his late father when he died and he switched things up.

19th centuries and technology, beautiful mix.

His wife, Mrs. Alisa Duncan, a beautiful blonde woman with the Marilyn Monroe hairstyle and famous red lipstick. She dressed in plaid skirts and ironed shirts with her foot clad in heels as she pranced around the house.

She was a stay-at-home wife, not a stay-at-home mom because I take care of the three little demons she calls kids.

Their three kids, Denise, Laird and Blair, God help their souls are the most adorable evil chipmunks I've ever catered for.

Denise, the oldest, eight years old was a very bubbly young girl whose joy in life was to make mine miserable.

She inherited her mother's hair and a rare mix of her parents blue and brown eyes.

She was going to grow to become a heart breaker one day, that's for sure.

Laird, the second boy and middle child of 6. He's a big flirt, even at his young age. The boy never went anywhere without smacking my butt.

I guess he must have seen his father do it to his mother and then thought it was a general thing to do.

One of these days, I'm certainly going to break his arm. He looks a lot like his father, the very babyish version.

And the sweetest of them all until you didn't give her what she wants was Blair.

Youngest, two years old. She looked nothing like her parents, with her red curly hair that looked a lot like cherry dipped in red, and her baby blue eyes.

She was an adorable baby at two.

Each child with their own craziness and I bear the brunt of it.

I would have taken it in me to spank the and teach them proper manners but Mrs. Duncan will no sooner have my head if I laid a hand on her precious gemstones.

The maids of other families envied me, they thought I had a sweet life because the family I worked for were well-to-do.

It's crazy that people don't realize that the wealthier the family, the more chores and maltreatment.

Sure I haven't been physically manhandled because the Duncan family care a lot for their public reputation, but there have been other forms of punishment.

Starvation, not being allowed to see the doctor when I fall sick and if any of the kids even contracted whatever I had at that moment, it would be hell on earth. Emotional abuse wasn't lacking behind not that it affected me that much since I've been emotionally abused all my life.

And then there's the–

Thud!

I stood up straight and ran to the direction of whatever had fallen and the sight was horrifying. Not horrifying to see but horrifying for me to know what comes next.

Laird had rolled off the stairs or at least looked like he had and I watched as his lips wobbled and he let out the loudest fake-genuine cry I've ever heard.

Oh he was hurt, just not as hurt as he cried out.

I quickly moved to grab him from the floor and hug his small body to my chest, trying to calm him down and make sure his mother didn't hear him but as I looked at the threshold of the stairs, I met Denise stare and cocky smile.

My body began to shake from fear of Mrs. Duncan asking what happened to him when I should have been looking after the kids and making sure they didn't hurt each other.

Alisa burst in through the door and raced for Laird, pushing me away with her hip and I stumbled on the floor.

It's not like she was overly concerned about her son, she just didn't like to miss an opportunity to show me that I was thegum under her beautiful heels.

" What happened to you Laird? How did you hurt yourself?" She asked, stroking his face and wiping away his tears.

" Denise. Denise pushed me off the stairs." Laird cried out and it sounded genuine this time because I could see a bruise forming on his arm and legs.

Mrs. Duncan turned to me so fast, you'd think Laird had said I pushed him down the stairs.

" Why weren't you watching the kids?" Her voice turned gravely cold and I staggered backwards because this was what I feared the most.

"I-I was busy in the kitchen. There-I-ahhh" The scream that tore through my throat was loud and the pain that dancing around my head was extreme.

she grabbed my hair in her hands tightly, twisting it like you would a wet laundry.

" I've told you Rayna, I don't fucking care what you're doing. You make sure my kids are not hurt!"

I nodded quickly even though the pain was about to make me unconscious " Yes, Mrs. Duncan. Please forgive me this one time. Please." Tears were dripping down my eyes at this rate. My burns weren't healed yet.

"I think you need a reminder of how things operate in this house." My eyes widened and I began to trash around in her hands, pleading and begging but she was tugging me towards the hallway already, towards the blue room.

I started pulling away from her, not caring about the immense pain in my head but she was stronger as always.

Despite my struggle, she was able to strap me to the chair.

And that is how I ended up being punished by electrocution.

Mr. Lachlan came back home that night and delivered his own set of punishment.

Another electrocution.

Before I passed out, I was able to understand the fact that he was punishing me for a deal he lost.

I was everyone's scapegoat. Always have been.
