"Ahhh darn it. I really don't understand anything," muttered a 14-year-old boy as he looked at his notebook.
He was about to enter his vacation period, and he had some pending homework.
Being the expert procrastinator he was, he chose the easy path. He left everything until the last moment!
Now he was paying the price for his bad decisions.
It was 11 at night, he was already sleepy, it was time for him to go to bed, but his unfinished homework held him in the realm of the awake.
"I just want to sleep!" was the only thought he had in his heart, trying to put the little effort he had left into his homework.
It was something about mathematics. The more he looked, the less his eyelids could hold up.
The boy glanced at his notebook for a few more moments before his eyelids closed slightly, and he nodded off a bit at his desk.
Dreams were trying to take the boy's consciousness away, but a shout prevented such an event.
"Kusaka Shinka, I hope you've finished your homework!" A woman's voice echoed in the boy's room.
"Ah, I got it aunt, I'll finish soon..." The young Shinka composed himself and began to pay attention to his notebook.
'Come on, I must hurry if I want to—' Young Shinka's thought stopped progressively. It wasn't because of lack of sleep, or accumulated stress, or anything like that.
It was something else.
Something strange had appeared in front of him. A faint light shone, softly illuminating his room and the surrounding objects.
His face also reflected the blue color emitted in front of him.
"W-What is this?"
Shinka had a window in front of him.
Not a window like the one you use to see beyond the walls of your home, or to bring light into a dark room.
It was a window like a computer's, a game window, for the most avid, an RPG window, but this one contained a written message.
[You have awakened the perfection system.]
Shinka rubbed his eyes, not understanding what he was seeing.
[The system grants the ability for continuous evolution of your skills, regardless of what each one may be. All for the sake of bringing the user to perfection itself.]
"..." Shinka didn't know how to react.
"Darn it, I knew I should sleep early every day, or my brain would really burn out..." he thought to himself as he watched the message not disappear at all.
Suddenly, the window disappeared, leaving Shinka bewildered, but another one appeared in its place, providing more information.
[Status.]
[Name: Shinka Kusaka.]
[Species: Human.]
[Nicknames: None.]
[Health: 50/50]
[Mana: 1/1]
[Attack: Low. (Human)]
[Defense: Low. (Human)]
[Speed: Low. (Human)]
[Number of skills: 0.]
Seeing all that information, Shinka didn't know how to react, he just blinked a couple of times before letting out a long sigh.
With an instinctive thought, the system closed in front of him. Leaving him stunned, even more than he already was.
His expression represented the utmost confusion existing on planet Earth.
Intrusively, another thought came, and the same status he had seen before appeared before him.
Taking a few seconds to relax, he closed the window again, remembering how he did it the previous time.
"Ok, that's weird..." he whispered, thinking that the only solution to his problem would be to go to bed, although tomorrow he didn't feel like having trouble with his aunt for not having done the homework.
He looked at his notebook again, but still, the thought that what he saw was beyond logic, was there.
'I tried to pretend like nothing happened, but I can't lie to myself.' Shinka thought as he meditated while looking at his notebook.
'If that thing calls itself a perfection system, it means I can perfect my skills, right? If that's real and not a hallucination, it means I could become a math genius right now.' He thought, as he grabbed his computer and immediately headed to a video page.
In the search bar, he typed the title of what was being taught in his math class.
Immediately, he started watching tutorials. He spent at least 10 minutes watching videos before something appeared.
[The skill "Mathematician" has been added to your skill repertoire.]
[Due to your previous knowledge, the skill "Mathematician" has leveled up to level 3.]
[Due to your diligence in learning about mathematics, the skill "Mathematician" levels up.]
[Mathematician lv.4]
"..." Shinka was blank as he saw the system giving him so many announcements in the form of notifications.
He looked at his notebook, and suddenly felt like he was ready to solve the exercise.
He narrowed his eyes and began to write quickly.
In a matter of minutes, he had all his homework done.
'What I didn't do for three days, I finally did it now!' he celebrated internally.
Thinking about everything that had just happened, he had a great idea.
'I can improve a lot of things now, before going to school. If I do it that way, when I go to school tomorrow, I shouldn't worry about tasks or teachers asking me questions!'
["Rationality" has been added to the skill repertoire.]
[Due to your previous knowledge, "Rationality" is lv.5]
Shinka felt like his mind was clearer. As if all his thoughts could flow effectively like water in a river.
"I'm never going to fail again." he whispered as he began to search for more complicated things about mathematics.
...
The birds began to sing in the morning. The sun began to rise after spending 12 hours on the other side of the world.
The sun's rays entered through the window of the residence where the Kusaka family lived.
Knock Knock
A slight knock resonated from the other side of a door.
Knock Knock
The same knocking was heard again, and upon not hearing a response, the door opened.
It was a lady of adult age, truly beautiful, with brown hair and green eyes.
The lady was about to wake up her nephew, Shinka, but she was stunned to see her nephew awake, and far from being a good thing, it was evident that her nephew hadn't slept all night.
His dark circles gave him away.
"H-hi aunt..." the boy whispered upon noticing his aunt's penetrating and angry gaze.
'I-I abused the system a bit...' he thought as he resigned himself to his fate.
