36. Sansa's Thoughts

As Sansa held the pure white object in her hand, she could sense a lovely scent—it was soap.

After hesitating for a moment, Sansa, being only 12 years old, couldn't resist the temptation and asked the other maids to prepare a bath.

She wanted to see if this soap, as Jenny had mentioned, was truly a hundred times better than saponin.

Soon, the bath was ready, and Jenny helped Sansa wash herself.

Afterward, Sansa felt incredibly refreshed. Her long, burgundy hair, inherited from her mother, was now smooth, and her fair, delicate face shone even more beautifully.

"You were right, Jenny. This soap is amazing; I've never felt this clean before," Sansa said with excitement, her blue eyes sparkling, as she hugged Jenny happily.

"Really?" Jenny replied.

"Miss Sansa, can I try it?" one of the maids asked eagerly.

"Me too! I want to try it too!" chimed in the others, all around the same age as Sansa.

Sansa generously shared the soap with them, letting them experience the magic themselves.

After washing, they too fell in love with this white, fragrant bar.

"Jenny, where did you buy this soap? I need to get one too," one of the maids asked, tugging at Jenny's sleeve.

Jenny proudly revealed that the soap came from a shop owned by a foreign nobleman from the far east in Winter Market Town. Sansa and the girls made a mental note to visit the shop themselves.

That evening, after dinner with her family, Sansa went back to her room, took the soap from its delicate wooden box, and headed to her sister Arya's room with a proud smile.

"Arya," Sansa called, walking gracefully into her sister's room, just as Sister Mordane had taught her to move.

Compared to Arya, who always ignored Sister Mordane's lessons and was often called a "wild tomboy," Sansa was the perfect noble lady, mastering all the skills and manners expected of her.

Arya rolled her eyes as Sansa entered, kicking her legs over the edge of the bed. "What do you want? Shouldn't you be embroidering with your little friends?" she asked.

Sansa glanced at Arya's dangling legs and couldn't help but scold her. "Arya, ladies shouldn't sit like that! It's so unladylike."

Unbothered, Arya shot back, "I like it this way! Mind your own business."

Sansa's face reddened with anger, but after a moment, she remembered why she had come. "Look, Arya, I have something amazing!" She opened the wooden box, revealing the soap inside.

"What's that?" Arya asked, suspicious but curious.

"This is soap!" Sansa said proudly. "Jenny gave it to me. It's from the shop owned by a foreign nobleman in Winter Market Town. It's meant for washing clothes, hands, faces, and even for bathing! Only the richest nobles can afford it!"

Arya looked intrigued but tried to hide it. "Hmph, isn't it just like the saponin we use?"

"No, it's much better!" Sansa said smugly. "It leaves you feeling so clean and has a special fragrance. Here, smell it—I just used it!"

Sansa held out her arm, and Arya, unable to resist, leaned in for a sniff. It did have a unique, pleasant scent. Arya compared it to her own hands, which smelled of sweat despite having used saponin earlier, and felt a bit embarrassed.

Seeing Arya's reaction, Sansa's smile widened. "Do you want some too? We can go to the shop in Winter Market Town and buy more together!"

Hearing that she might get to leave Winterfell, Arya perked up. "I'm in! Let's go!"

Sansa continued, "Jenny said the shop has other amazing things from his homeland. There might be even better things than this soap!"

"I'm going! I'm definitely going!" Arya exclaimed.

"Great! You ask Father, and I'll ask Mother to let us go!" Sansa said, revealing her real plan.

"Deal!" Arya agreed, eager to explore beyond Winterfell.

Sansa turned to leave but was stopped by Arya. "Wait! Let me try that soap first and see if it's really as good as you say," Arya demanded, eyeing the wooden box.

Sansa almost refused but thought about how she needed Arya's help to convince their parents. "Alright," she agreed. After all, they could always buy more.
