CHAPTER ONE

(Dawn's POV)

My name is Dawn. I wasn't just named that because of my beauty. I was given the name because of my eyes. My eyes were dawn. Yes, the first appearance of light in the sky before sunrise.

No one could stare into my eyes not even my loved ones since they could go blind or dizzy from the effect.

I don't even know how old I am anymore since I have lived for several years and I stopped counting. I still look like I am in my twenties though.

I was hunted for my eyes back when I was born. My father; Nathaniel Mark was a marine officer and my mother; Agatha Duncan who later took my father's name worked with the Air Force.

My parents were so ambitious that they decided to give me out to a spinster Aunt Margaret. This aunt ran a foster home and she took care of every child like her own.

There was a boy who lived with her then. He was also called Duncan. One could clearly see the blue color in his eyes and he was a sweet little boy then.

Everyone doted on him. He was the town's boy. I was an infant while he was five years old. Children in the home were scared of me because of my eyes but he wasn't.

Obviously, who would blame the children for been scared when even my own parents abandoned me? I wasn't really a part of their plan and I am quite sure the dawn eyes baby girl would stop them from going up in rank.

They didn't want the guilt of abortion but I just can't reason why they had me at all. Isn't that the purpose of contraceptives? I was a mistake to them and they were a punishment for me.

The real trouble started when I was five years old. There had been bandit attacks on the town for a while and each attack took a life or more. The police claimed to investigate the matter and monetary promises were made to whoever got information on the bandits.

One beautiful sunny morning of a summer time, the bandits choose to attack Aunt Margaret foster home. Children laughing and playing around instantly stopped and everything became quiet. Anything else heard was made the bandits. Aunt Margaret pleaded with them to take the money she had and let us be.

One of the bandits suddenly struck a kid and aunt Margaret tried to stop him but she got hit by another man with a gun barrel. She fell and started bleeding from her head. I guess I couldn't stand the terror of the blood and I screamed with everything in me.

A light exploded from my eyes and blew off the man's head. The rest of the bandits took to their heels. We called the police and they somehow sorted things out. They took aunt Margaret to the hospital where she spent two weeks.

Another lady from the town came to take care of us for the next two weeks. She scolded me for everything and made other kids stayed away from me. She called me evil names and said I was an abomination.

The kids already fear me but she worsened thier fear for me. They were terrified of me. Except for Duncan. He stood up for me and he stood by me. He made them realize how they could have died by the hands of the bandits. He reminded them of how scared they were with the bandits and how none of them helped the situation.

Few months later, some men dressed in black suit and shades came to the house and thier goal was to take me away.
