Gwen wakes up to the sudden noise of what she thinks is probably a TV. She realizes she's lying on a bed with Miles lying next to her. Its dark in the room but there's just enough opening in the door to let some light in. 'Dude, wake up', she says, shaking Miles who's happily drooling on the pillows.
Miles grunted. 'Huh, what the-'.
Gwen quickly covers his mouth, shutting him up. 'Shh. I think Korra dragged us back to her place. Come on. We gotta get out of here'.
They both ready themselves before leaving the room and sneaking through the dark hallway. 'This has some serious serial killer vibes to it', Miles whispers. 'How in the world did you end up meeting her in the first place?'
'I don't know. We just kinda bumped into each other in the coffee shop. And my spidey-sense was fine when I first met her. I thought she was funny'.
'Yeah. Well, so was John Wayne Gacy. Dude was a literal clown'.
Gwen groans at that. They reach the end of the hallway and find Korra sitting in front of the TV. Gwen stops Miles and raises her hands towards him. You go left. I go right. We attack her on my signal, she says using sign language. Miles on the other hand looks at her dumbfounded before giving her a nervous two thumbs up.
Gwen sighs. 'Just go left', she finally says.
'Oh, why didn't you just say so'.
As they walk towards each side, Korra suddenly stomps her foot. 'Stop right there. I won't have the two of you making a mess in my house'. The two of them gawk at her. 'Sit', she tells them.
'What do you want with us?' says Gwen.
'I said, sit', orders Korra, this time much more forceful.
The two quickly sits down on the couch furthest to her, sweat trickling down their foreheads.
'I bought you guys some food. I'm not sure what either of you want so I just got some burgers'. The older woman points towards the food on the small living room table.
'How can we even-'. Before Gwen could finish her sentence, Korra glares at her, making her shut her mouth. She then glares at Miles who could do nothing but gulp.
'Eat', she says again.
The two kids pick up their food and nervously chomp it down. Korra watches the two intently before finally taking a deep breath. She sighs.
'Why do you two have to make my life so complicated?' she says.
They both just look at her, their stare full of questions.
'Look, here's the deal, alright', Korra starts. 'I used to be part of SHIELD'.
'WHAT!?' shout the two of them. 'You're with the Avengers'.
'Shush. Grown up is talking', she growls. 'Just let me finish my story then you can start asking questions. And no, I wasn't part of the Avengers, I just worked for SHIELD. Although I did go with them on a couple of missions. The point is Avengers get sent on heroic missions, I was more of the nuclear option'.
Miles was about to open his mouth before Korra glares at him again. She continues. 'So, long story short, I decided to quit the program. I wanted a normal life and Fury agreed. But on one condition. I'm supposed to watch over you kids. Parker thinks you two have the heart for the Avengers program and Fury sent me here to confirm it'.
The two of them grin. 'Does Peter really think that?' asks the boy.
'Yeah. He even went and did a whole power point presentation and everything. Honestly, everyone was impressed. Captain America and Iron Man pretty much agreed already. The only reason you're not living in the Avengers tower right now is because Director Fury thinks you're both too young to join. And that's where I come in. My job is to watch over you kids and report everything to the director. If anything pops up that's more than you can handle, I step in and help'.
Miles begins jumping and dancing while singing the Avengers theme song. Gwen happily sings with her while Korra, already too tired, just sighs.
'Alright, kids. Quiet down. The point is, I wasn't supposed to interact with you in the first place. I already reported everything to Director Fury and now, my orders are to bring you in'.
'Wait, is that a good thing or a bad thing?', asks Gwen.
'Depends on your perspective', Korra answers. 'The director wants to talk to you in person. He wants to see if you're both Avengers material. If yes, I guess you get initiated into the program. If no, well, let's not try to think about that option'.
They both gulp at that.
Korra continues. 'So, finish your food and get some rest. Your vacation just got a whole lot more interesting.
