shock

Josh chewed a corner of his lips as he watched her open her mouth in shock, he would have found it cute if he wasn't already nervous. This wasn't like him, he would be lying if he also didn't state that he saw what James had been trying to shove in his face now. He wasn't stupid just trusting.

From the days he spent with her, he would catch her stiffening at the slightest noise, her legs incessantly tapping on the floor with eyes swivelled to the door. It was almost like she was glued to that door, half expecting someone to rush through it.

Again, the circumstances he found her were less than pleasing. Josh had seen his fair share of blood, with him being a missionary and all but still… It was an obvious sight that she was quite odd.

Last night, he had prayed about it seeking confirmation if this friendship or whatever relationship was going on with him and her could go anywhere.

" You can stay with me, just until you recover" he stated his earlier words feeling a slight presence of relief thrumming his heart. This was the right thing to do after all.

Only for him to visit today and eavesdrop on her planning to leave, he was right, she was being followed but that didn't mean he was letting her out of sight.

" But you don't know me very well. Diana licked her lips, even Abby was gobs macked at what he was saying.

Was this guy really not working for the hunter? Was he really not one of his men because how could someone be so gullible

She clapped her hands apart and sat on the hospital bed, Josh walked and sat beside her taking her hands into his.

" Hear me out a second" he pleaded earnestly, she shifted a bit from him feeling his warmth. She and Abby's eyes connected and Abby nodded shuffling out of the door to give them some space.

When she shut the door, she walked down the hallway feeling, stopping at some empty wards feeling a bit bored.

She stopped at a particular ward, the sound of a familiar voice drawing her in. It couldn't be, could it?

She entered into a room, the paint was a splash of lively blue indicating that it was the children's ward. There was a group of children gathered at the feet of a young doctor in glasses. The geeky frames twisted his face into a different person entirely, giving him off to be a more calmer look than he actually was.

" So.." he continued not noticing her presence, his eyes still engrossed in the children's book he had just been singing out loud to." Me crabby decided not to talk to Bintu unless she sang his favourite song. That is the one I just sang now but naughty Bintu started to cry sadly"

One of the children giggled, her cute face wrapped up in a bandage that the only thing visible were her eyes and lips. She glanced up catching Abby's stare and gave her a big smile fanning her heart.

" Good afternoon auntie" she greeted sweetly, this dragged James face to look up and he rose frantically from the children's mat pulling off his frames. He swayed from side to side a bit unsteadily due to one child clinging at him.

" What are you doing here?" he asked, sliding back the frames into his pocket. It makes his face look bare and devoid of the softness she had only glimpsed before, leaving him with harsh panes gliding over his face.

" Please go on," she says, stepping back, feeling a bit bad at interrupting the children's moment." I didn't mean to be a bother"

James says nothing but instead gets on his knees and drops the book with one of the children.

" Unfortunately kids, uncle has to stop here for now. But we will continue first thing tomorrow" he promises with hands raised up and there are vivid choruses of disappointment.

He gets on his feet and trudges over to Abby taking her hand and ushering her to his office. When they get there, he closes it behind him quickly.

" And why were you loitering around the hospital in a suspicious manner?" he asked her, folding his hands together and squinting at her up and down.

Abby almost hit herself in that moment, she couldn't believe that for some time she had even started seeing James in a new light.

" This feels a lot like kidnapping," she retorted sarcastically. " Can you let me leave now?" she asked, rolling her eyes and walking forward to push him aside. He held out a hand to stop her from moving, his mistake. She grabbed his hand forcefully, twisting it to one side and making him bend on his knees, yelping in pain.

" Ouch!" he cried, feeling his bones breaking from the intense pain that she was inflicting on him." Go easy on me"

" You have no idea" she snarled, pressing his hand further," how badly I've wanted to keep you over annoying f.."

A brisk knock on the door interrupted her actions, and a female voice floated from outside.

" Doctor?" she called out," there has been an emergency that requires you urgently. "

Abby let him go pushing him away from her until he toppled on the floor gracelessly and yelped.

" Look I'm only going to say this once, stay away from me and my friend. If you don't want to lose that hand" she threatened viciously storming out.
