"The police?" Josh drawled out arching a brow forward at his friend, who was staring sheepishly away.
" I might have called them" he admitted scratching his head and looking away. " She was shot in her stomach, this is a criminal offense. For crying out loud, someone tried to kill her" he said defensively. He didn't even know why he was trying to defend himself in the first place when he wasn't wrong, if she really was innocent and a normal person, nothing will come out of this.
The knock sounded again, this time louder than before.
"Can we please come in?" The policeman asked, this time he sounded a bit annoyed.
" Let him in" Diana said softly, she covered herself firmly with the blanket. In a weird way, she felt like it was a shield protecting her from the world in total. James opened the door, feeling guilty for some reason that bothered him. The policemen walked in, there were two of them. One is older than the other. He looks like he is in his middle age and has greyish hair at his temples. The younger guy looks like a pure rookie for he is clad in his starched blue police uniform and is standing firm and straight with a no nonsense expression.
"I'm John, it is nice to meet you. This is my partner, Kevin." The older man starts, he is dressed more casually in a white polyester shirt and denim slacks. He looks surprisingly fit for his age and there is no sign of a slouching belly. Diana recognizes his voice as the one at the door, there is a chorus of Luke warm greetings in the hospital as Josh bends down to clean up the mess made by their soupy affair.
Soupy affair? Diana blushed at the stupid term that she had coined in her mind shaking it feverently and focused her attention on the policeman. Wasn't the saying out of sight, out of mind.
The police man was still talking introducing the station where he and his partner worked.
" We got a report from this hospital that you were a victim of attempted murder" John said, he brings out a recorder and asks permission to record the statement. Diana gives him the go ahead.
" So tell me what happened?"
Diana nods and exchanged a quick glance at Abby, the action so discreet no one catches them. She bites her dry lips hard and look down on the floor, recalling the events that happened hours ago.

( Flashback)
A loud gunshot rang across the room startling the poor pigeons on the windowsill, they flew in different corners.
The door was finally pushed open and a large man entered into the room, he towered over the whole room and he had a very eerie aura. The light flickered showing his scruffy beard and unshaven head which shone in the sun. He had his shoveled in one trouser and a dark gun slung over his shoulder.
" Boss! She isn't here" he announced glancing around the sardine boxed room, he couldn't find the little vermin anywhere. He still didn't understand why his boss was so insistent on this chick.
Someone else stepped into the landing of the room, he had his head ducked backwards and a smile lining his face. The face was an exquisite kind, the Asian eyes prominent with his phoenix eye color and his lips… They were red and full.
" You didn't see her Buddy?" he asked glancing around the room in disgust. He just couldn't understand why she would choose this life over him?
" The girl just escaped without preamble again. It's not a problem boss, I will call my mongrels to track her down" Buddy said tapping his chest heavily.
The man didn't reply moving forward in a weird sort of ambience, he paused at the back door and his eyes flashed with something dark. It didn't make him look menancing but wickedly beautiful especially with his dark Phoenix eyes.
" No need Buddy" his full lips curled into a smirk, he folded his hand staring at the blur of blood on the door. It stained the oak door and dripped down in the floor board. " There is no need. She hasn't gone that far"
Diana almost screamed, her knees buckling down from under as she hid under the window sill. She knew the hunter was coming for her, it was only a matter of time. Then again, this was one of the sick games he enjoyed playing. He always enjoyed being the predator.
She crawled out from under the bushes, wincing when she exerted pressure on the other hand. When she finally came through, she ran as fast as she could with her hands dangling in an odd angle.
( Flashback over)
" I can't remember officer" she stated tight-lipped, John observed that her chin was hunched down. Defensive, but why?
" What do you mean you can't remember miss, this is for your safety miss" Kevin butted in, his expression agitated. Officer John shot him a look to calm down, then smiled pleasantly turning off the recorder.
" No biggie" he shrugging pocketing it, he and an annoyed Kevin walked back to the door. " We Wii just come back tomorrow, now shall we?"
Diana watched them leave, she fisted the blankets from under. They could come as many times as they want to, but she knew that she will never talk. Not if she wanted those two to stay alive.
