Chapter 46: Fortress of Steel

"I will spare you because soon you will become one of us, my fellow men."

Facing Tony's provocation, Magneto smiled faintly. Then, he turned to Mystique and said, "Raven."

Mystique opened her hands, and her battle suit quickly equipped itself under Magneto's control. Tony looked sad. Why did he have a feeling of being cucked?

After a moment, Mark finished suiting up, and Mystique, excitedly, quickly familiarized herself with the suit's functions. The Mark suit had an intelligent system, so it wasn't difficult to get the hang of it.

"The first step is complete. Now, onto the second step."

What was Magneto's second step? It was to control the Statue of Liberty. He raised both hands, and the base of the Statue of Liberty made a cracking sound. Then, the statue slowly flew into the sky.

Yes, the Statue of Liberty was flying. Tony was stunned. Although he had seen a lot, he never thought that one day the Statue of Liberty would actually fly.

The Statue of Liberty weighed 225 tons, but for Magneto, that weight was nothing. In the movies, he had controlled yachts, football stadiums, nuclear submarines, and steel bridges.

The mutants below looked up in awe at Magneto, amazed by his godlike power.

Tony couldn't help but ask, "Magneto, what exactly are you trying to do?"

"I want to turn you all into us."

Magneto lightly shook his right hand, and numerous rivets flew off from the base of the Statue of Liberty. The statue disintegrated but remained suspended due to the magnetic force.

Then, Magneto transformed the statue into a small fortress made of steel. In the center of the fortress stood a metal tower hundreds of meters high, with a torch atop it. Inside the torch was a device for mutant transformation.

The mutant transformation device had a circular shape with a core control unit, a silver frame, and a rotating metal ring.

Tony, hanging in the middle of the tower, looked at this "miracle" and couldn't help but swallow nervously. He said, "The Statue of Liberty has turned into Magneto's torch."

"I like your optimism," Magneto remarked, glancing at Tony. He then shouted loudly down below, "Enter the fortress, set up defenses. After tonight, this world will belong to us mutants."

"Long live Magneto!"

Members of the Brotherhood cheered and entered the makeshift fortress, armed with prepared weapons.

Magneto wasted no time and controlled the small fortress to fly into the sky, crossing the ocean towards Manhattan. Tonight, mutants would reign over the world.

"It seems like something big is going to happen tonight," Tony muttered to himself, thinking about his own situation. He couldn't help but smile bitterly. Whether something big happened tonight or not, he had already lost his place in this world.

A steel fortress of such magnitude couldn't stay hidden. SHIELD quickly received the news, and Agent Coulson, looking at the flying object on the screen, immediately notified other agents and the X-Men to rush to Manhattan.

Then, Coulson called the Air Force: "Don't send any planes over. Any aircraft is just a toy in front of Magneto. Send the military into Manhattan."

After receiving a positive response from the military, Coulson called Director George and said, "Evacuate the citizens of Manhattan as quickly as possible. Magneto is definitely going to cause a major incident this time."

"Understood."

Director George nodded with a grim expression. He wondered what was happening in New York this year. Why were disasters occurring one after another?

Although Director George immediately deployed police forces to evacuate the citizens, it didn't prove very effective. On one hand, the citizens didn't cooperate, and on the other hand, the Brotherhood was well-prepared. They detonated cars and shops one after another, plunging the city into chaos.

This time, Magneto had come prepared.

Professor Charles Xavier led the X-Men aboard a jet fighter to Manhattan. His brow furrowed as he didn't know what Magneto intended to do, but he knew that after this incident, the situation for mutants would undoubtedly become worse.

Charles Xavier, who had dedicated his life to mutants, felt deep exhaustion. He had been striving for so many years, but the future for mutants had not improved. Instead, it had become increasingly bleak.

Near Times Square, the broad-minded journalist from the Daily Bugle, Roxanne, was broadcasting live. She signaled to her cameraman, Peter Parker, to focus the lens on the police directing traffic while saying, "The police suddenly started evacuating the crowd. I wonder if it's related to Magneto..."

Roxanne was the ex-girlfriend of Johnny, the Ghost Rider. After Andrew acquired the Daily Bugle, he lured her away from Texas to New York with a high salary. To be honest, Roxanne was quite satisfied with her job. On one hand, the salary was good, and on the other hand, New York never lacked big news stories.

As for why Peter was working as a cameraman? Well, it was because he was broke. Who would work overtime if they weren't broke?

Roxanne was about to go interview the police when Peter sensed something and looked up suddenly, exclaiming in surprise.

Instinctively, Roxanne looked up at the sky, and her mouth hung open in astonishment. A huge and menacing steel fortress was rapidly flying towards them. Wherever it passed, even the moonlight was blocked.

The citizens who had been pointing and talking about the police just a moment ago now wished they had grown an extra pair of legs and desperately ran for the exits.

"Oh my God, Peter, quickly aim the camera at the sky. Magneto must be here," Roxanne shouted.

Peter blinked and asked, "Huh, Roxanne, shouldn't we be running away at a time like this?"

"Run away? Are you kidding? This is a major news story. Even if my legs were broken, I couldn't run. Whether I can stand firm in New York depends on this," Roxanne declared.

"So, this is what a professional journalist is like?"

Peter stared dumbfoundedly. After hesitating for a moment, he decided to wait and see what happened.

Soon, the steel fortress arrived at Times Square. Without any unnecessary words, Magneto controlled the fortress to descend, causing people hiding in shops to hurriedly run outside.

With a loud crash, the steel fortress landed heavily on Times Square. The entire ground shook violently, as if a dragon had just flipped over. Immediately after, numerous windows and screens shattered, and poorly constructed buildings collapsed with a clattering sound.

Times Square, once bustling with activity, had turned into hell, with countless people screaming and wailing.

"Capture those traitors."

Magneto ordered coldly, and Toad and Sabretooth immediately rushed towards the hiding members of the Morlocks, a group of mutants.

Wolverine, Storm, and Cyclops quickly intervened upon witnessing the scene, and a fierce battle ensued.

Wolverine, Storm, and Cyclops were powerful, but their numbers were too few to stop the Brotherhood. Numerous failed mutants were captured and brought into the fortress, where they would become Magneto's "batteries."

Magneto rarely harmed mutants, but those traitors didn't count as mutants.

Due to the shaking, Roxanne nearly fell, but luckily, Peter supported her. She nodded to Peter and immediately began reporting, while Peter filmed with the camera.

At this moment, Peter, with exceptional eyesight, noticed that someone seemed to be hanging from the tower. He quickly zoomed in the lens to lock onto the figure. After a moment, he exclaimed in shock, "Mr. Stark?"

"Tony Stark?"

Roxanne' eyes brightened as she leaned in to look at the screen. She saw Tony Stark indeed hanging there.
