Stepping On A God

"Insult you? There is always meaning. Everything has a purpose." Darkseid responded. A smirk could be seen on his face.

"...Mmm?" Sora raised an eyebrow.

Only then did he turn on his light sense. A surprised expression adorned his face as he turned around. An energy clone of Darkseid floated behind him and it was teeming with omega energy. It reached for the lazy man, trying to drown him in the overbearing aura.

Sora quickly moved out of the way. The grab was avoided with it only touching the air. That wasn't the end. The energy grew bright enough to blind the average man. It was going to explode!

KABOOM

The blast of pure energy sent the young Lockhart flying with a few burn marks on his clothes. He'd evaded just in time once again. Of course, Darkseid wasn't going to let go of the opportunity.

He dashed at an even faster speed. The air popped and crackled as he clenched his massive fist. A whistle could be heard as the giant's glowing arm hurtled down onto Sora's chest.

"Such a low hanging fruit…" The sleepy man muttered.

His arm shined with sparkling darklight. He would match the blow! Both of their fists collided with one another.

BOOOM

The sky changed colors from red to white, then black to normal again. All of the ocean waves below were flattened like pancakes. Multiple sections below them were becoming devoid of water. Shockwaves exploded one after the other, causing the heroes far away to gulp in trepidation.

Everyone was fighting their own battles. Even with their focus directed on their tasks, they couldn't help but glance over. Nothing could be seen by the naked eye, as the clashing titans were already past the horizon and moving too fast. Wonder Woman could only tell their location by the movement of the clouds.

"Interesting use of your abilities…but is that it?" Sora mocked the giant.

"Your mouth has no filter." Darkseid growled.

Both of his glowing hands came down for a powerful slam. The young Lockhart elegantly flipped around the attack. Even then, the blow created a vacuum of air, opening up a sand pit in the ocean.

Sora evaded another blow and landed in the pit. Darkseid was right behind him. It was round 2. The attacks sped up, along with the power behind them. There would be no victor if the two remained equal.

The lazy man flipped over a tackle, leaving him upside down in the air. His leg came down and smashed into Darkseid. Sora had used a bit more speed this time. The giant's body crashed into the ground before leaving a crater. For the first time since the beginning of the fight, he got up slowly. A bunch of sand had gotten in his mouth.

'I'd hate to get sand in my mouth too.' Sora thought with pity. It was only going to get worse for Darkseid.

"I've had enough. You were a good opponent, but it's time for you to die! I will remember you." The evil ruler declared.

His entire body shined even brighter than before. The omega energy was spilling out of his eyes. The sky had turned red. No matter where the civilians of the east coast were, they were able to spot the color change. That was how much power Darkseid was putting into this attack.

The giant crouched down, his muscles bulging. He was like a compressed spring that was primed for launch. And he did. The speed at which he moved was reaching that of light. It was the fastest he'd moved since the beginning. Still, it wasn't enough.

Sora only sped up his perception, causing Darkseid's figure to slow down to that of a snail. He looked around him, figuring out an optimal direction that wouldn't lead to Earth's destruction. He eventually looked up.

"Playtime…is over." Sora muttered lazily.

His eyes glowed eerily. In an instant, he appeared beside the slow moving giant. Sora's leg was already in motion. His foot was about to reach Darkseid's face. THIS…was hyperspeed.

DING

Like the chime of a soft bell, the attack connected. Darkseid's body vanished so fast that it seemed to pop out of existence. He was like a ragdoll, leaving the sandpit and parting the ocean. It was an upward trajectory, sending him on a slanted path to the clouds.

This was the strongest blow Sora had given since arriving in this universe. All of the nearby water was blasted behind the young Lockhart. A tsunami was definitely headed toward Metropolis. Nanoseconds passed before Darkseid's body was flying over Brazil.

Sora only took a step, beaming right behind the laser known as Darkseid. Another kick sent the giant up into space. The air behind the sleepy man seemed to fracture, and destruction was the only answer to whatever unfortunate souls were behind him. Multiple parademons turned into blood mist when their ruler flew right through them.

The warrior of God was doing his best to limit the amount of destruction his kicks caused. It would be horrible if the planet exploded. Now that they were in space, Sora was free to kick a bit harder. He flashed beside the already unconscious and broken Darkseid, another kick ready to connect.

DING

Just like that, the evil giant had left the solar system. Sora didn't immediately follow this time. He floated in place while thinking to himself.

'Should I catch him and confirm his defeat? His body will keep going until it leaves the galaxy. He should be dead, right?' He pondered.

Sora utilized his light sense, scanning straight ahead until it reached Darkseid. The defeated man was only a tap away from death. All of the bones in his body were pulverized into grains of sand. Some of his brain was missing. It did seem like the omega energy was trying to heal him though.

'He can heal from that? Impressive.'

Sora beamed through space, reaching the figure in a split second. He grabbed Darkseid by the broken armor. This stopped the momentum, allowing them to slow down.

'Is this your true power?' A voice rang in Sora's mind. The young Lockhart raised an eyebrow.

'Truly formidable. I can't defeat you as I am now. This is just my avatar, after all.' The voice continued. It was the true Darkseid.

'That's right…you're in a separate dimension. Do you really think I'd go fight you there? You're not that important.' Sora transmitted.

'I guess we'll never know who the true victor will be. But still…'

At that moment, a dark portal opened up in front of them. Ghastly tendrils shot out of the portal and wrapped around Darkseid. This wasn't the omega dimension! Sora frowned at the awful feeling.

'...There is always another way.'

'You think I'll just let you escape?' Sora mocked.

He swiped his hand at the tendrils only to be met with pain. Excruciating pain. A dark miasma had covered his hand. It was spreading at a pace visible by the naked eye. Sora immediately cut off his own hand.

The surrounding stars washed him in their light, granting him a new hand. Only then did he focus on the portal again. Multiple red and white eyes were glowing from the other side. As Darkseid was pulled into the portal, Sora didn't dare to follow. It closed a second later.

'My son, hold onto that feeling.' It was God.

'...What the hell was that?!'

'That…was the aragami. No matter how strong you become, their nature is absolute. They corrupt whatever they touch. That is their truth.'

'Is this what you wanted me to fight?'

'Indeed. Now you understand why you must grow stronger. Not for strength, but for survival. You must grow powerful enough to kill without being touched. Don't let them touch you. Ever.' God spoke with a stern voice.

'...How much time do I have?'

'They have yet to breach this universe. You have two years at least. The omniverse is in danger, Sora. Prepare yourself.'

With that, the connection was cut off. God didn't have much else to say. Sora made his way back to Earth, building up his resolve. Things were much worse than he thought. An omniversal level extinction event? Fuck!

It's here!
