Lucky Me?

05:00 May 12th 2409, Altai City

An Alarm went off in a dark dirty room, a small skinny man who looked to be in his early 30s with dark brown unkempt long hair a small stubble around his chin woke up.

The man's thin wrist hammered down on the alarm stopping the loud blaring sound coming from it. He got up to go to the bathroom in which a mirror was showing pale skin with big dark bags under his eyes.

The man looked in the mirror and said "What a pathetic loser" before going toilet. Despite his scruffy appearance he was actually 22.

He got changed into a grey t-shirt with multiple holes and different coloured stains with a black tracksuit.

He got out a small tub of cat food and said to himself "I've nearly run out, I'll get more on the way back." As he poured the remaining cat food into the cat bowl he heard a soft "Meow".

The man stroked the orange cat's soft fur for a bit before leaving.

As he left the small apartment he got a call, he took out a cracked smart phone and it read 'Stupid Pig' "What now?" he answered the call "Kaos I told you to be here by 5.10!" The middle aged man sounded angry. "Boss im sorry but work starts at 5.30."

"Thats why I told you yesterday."

'Damn pig always lying'

"Sorry boss im quite forgetful i will make sure it wont happen again, im on my way to construction site now."

"I'm cutting your pay by 10% this month" the 'Pig' said before ending the call.

"That Stupid Pig says he told me something when he didn't then just cuts my pay, does what he wants when he wants."

The man's name was Kaos he was an orphan and didn't have anyone looking after him when he was young. When he was born he was abandonded by his parents, the workers at the orphanage didn't do anything but feed him and tell him off. He didn't talk with the other children nor did he try to, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway as they all called him weird and nobody liked him.

He was bullied all throughout school even the teachers mocked him. His love life was out of the question, in short his life was miserable. But there was a light in his dark world, two actually. One was a small orange kitten called Fluff with a big long scar across its back. Fluff was the only thing alive that liked him.

The other one was novels. Fantasy novels, Kaos loved them and read them whenever he had spare time or wasn't taking care of Fluff. It was his only way of escape, imagining being in a vast world full of magic and mystery, dungeons and danger. He loved them being able to cast powerful magic spells was his dream but off course that was never going to happen he lived in reality chained by rules and restrictions.

After his 10 minute walk to the construction site he arrived at it and heard a familiar meow. Kaos turned around to see a certain orange cat "Fluff" a look of suprise on his face "Did you follow me here?" "You cant be here its dangerous you might get hurt get back to thecapartment." "Wait how did you get out the apartment?" "Meow" "Go back."

Fluff did not move he just started licking his paws. "I cant walk you back or that pig will fire me and i cant have that as this is the only job that can support me and you." "Right, stay here and dont move wait for me to come back ok." "Meow".

After 4 hours he went on lunch break and went up to the guy at the cafeteria and said the very basic "that and that" got his food and some for Fluff and left.

As he went to the place he last saw Fluff he thought 'I hope you listened you little rascal'. As he was approaching the place he heard the sound of loud cheering from a group of teenagers and some looked to be throwing something.

'Disgusting' was the one thing that came to mind, he was used to seeing them. They would often get a small bird or mouse or any creature they could abuse they would.

The group would pelt stones at, kick, punch, throw, stab. Then would walk away and laugh once their 'fun' was over like nothing had ever happened and leave the already dead or nearly dead creature to die in pain for no purpose other than they were bored.

He felt bad for the thing getting abused and walked past but as he left he heard a pained "Meow". Kaos's heart sank he dropped the food and turned 180 degrees in an instant he sprinted back to the group of teens shouted in his heart 'No no no no no no no no it was similar but it wont be him it wont dont worry it's fine it's fine it's fine' Kaos's voice was extremely panicked. He heard another cry "MEEOOW".

A boy in a blue school uniform and short blonde hair kicked the cat and shouted "SHUT UP YOU STUPID SLOB OF FUR." As the cat went flying Kaos saw the orange cat and his heart stopped beating he fell on the floor and passed out.

He woke up 10 seconds later but when he did he didn't get up he was stunned and in shock although the cat looked nothing like a cat as its body had been butchered by the teens and the soft orange fur now drenched in a thick red substance he saw the big long scar on its back it was "FLUFF".

Kaos got back up and sprinted to the cat ignoring the group he knelt down on the blood stained ground "you are going to be alright buddy" "you are going to be fine you are going to be fine you are going to be fine."

He repeated the words over and and over he grabbed Fluff no response he shook him a big no response he shook him more no response he shook him a lot no response.

"FLUFF" he cried out Kaos picked up the cat and rushed to the nearest vet forgetting the group of teens who caused this and his lunch. 'He will back in shape in no time, the wonders of advanced medicine' 'He WILL be fine'.

When he arrived at the vets he shouted out "I NEED A VET MY CAT NEEDS A VET HELP" everyone stared at him in shock then looked at the bloody mess he called a 'cat'

"Sir please calm down we will be with you in just a minute."

"A MINUTE my cat doesnt have a minute he has a now."

"Sir..."

After a short shout another person called out "Oi follow me" Kaos looked at the short man with medical clothes on. "Are you a vet?" He quickly said

"Yes now follow me quickly" the short man said. Kaos followed him into a room with medical equipment. "Can you save him?"

"I'll see what I can do. But the injuries are serious." "Please leave the room." Kaos left the room and started to calm down he sat down 'modern medicine can do wonders.'

After 9 grueling hours of waiting he saw the red light signalling the operation dim. His stomach was aching and in pain from not eating but he didn't care he couldn't focus on anything else but Fluff. He got multiple calls from his boss but he ignored them.

As the doors opened his heart raced he rushed to vet "So how is it? Was it successful?"

The vet wore a neutral expression "Im sorry for loss"

"Thank yo... wait what .... sorry for your loss" Kaos said softly

"We tried as hard as we could im sorry."

But it didn't matter Kaos's mind went blank.

The vet walked away.

he couldn't hear or see anything he started to feel sick and nauseous his ears went fuzzy he fell to the ground conscious but blank.

He was like that for about a minute before Kaos got back from his trance. Kaos walked through the doors where he saw 'Fluff'.

He just stood there waiting for something, anything 'Its all my fault I should never have left him there I should have stayed with him' he continued to curse himself out until the image of the group appeared in his mind his eyes full of tears and burning with hatred.

"It's not all my fault they did this to him so its there fault not his" 'yes its their fault not his but he could of been saved so its the doctors fault he could have saved him but he didnt he purposly let him die yes of course how could I have been so stupid noone has ever liked me even though I've done nothing wrong to them. They all hate me they all want to hurt me its all the humans' fault it's not his it's theirs. Thats right it's their fault not mine'. He started shouting and mumbling like a madmam until he said "I'll kill every last one of those shitty bastards."
