Year 2XXX, April 5th, Lin Residence
The little girl no older than six got out of her bed. She picked up the little bunny on the bedside table, and walked towards the window, pulling a chair towards it. The little girl held onto the chair, struggling as she climbed it and peeked through the windows, noticing a vehicle had stopped infront of their house.
She blinked, seeing a man in green uniform step out of the vehicle, followed by a few other men who were wearing the same outfit. They were tall with broad shoulders.
The housekeeper approached them, said a few words, and guided them inside.
The little girl furrowed her brows when she saw them. Who were these people? Why did they look mean and so...serious?
She got down from the chair, carefully climbing down while holding her little bunny towards her chest.
The little girl walked towards the door of her room and pushed it open, peeking outside. There was no one in the hallway which made her smile. She stepped out and closed the door behind her, being very quiet and careful with her movements.
It felt fun. Sneaking around and not being caught by someone! The little girl giggled and quietly went near the stairs. She lowered her head and peeked down below, trying to look for the men in green uniforms.
"General Leng."
The little girl heard the familiar voice. That was her big brother! Her eyes brightened and she searched for the familiar face.
She found him. A tall youth in pristine clothes wearing glasses. The little girl only saw the broad back and shoulders but she was certain that this was her big brother!
She felt giddy as she watched them from the second floor. She felt naughty with what she was doing but it also felt exciting.
"Lin Fang, you have grown up. The last time I saw you, you were still a skinny kid. Now, you have become a man." The man in green uniform said, looking very strict and serious but he also gazed at the youth with familiarity in his eyes.
"I heard that you wanted to be a doctor."
The little girl saw her big brother nod his head. "Yes. It's my dream."
General Leng placed his hands on his back, looking at the person infront of him. "Is that really what you want to do? Have you ever considered joining the army? I can see that you have great potential just like your parents.."
Lin Fang smiled, pushing his glasses up."General Leng, I admire you. You have been diligently protecting the people and serving the country. You have an honorable profession that gives hope to people. I also want to be someone like that but instead of being a soldier, I want to be a doctor and save people's lives."
"You can still become a soldier and a doctor. You can be an army medic. Becoming an army medic only requires the completion of 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training, as well as Advanced Individual Training, and this takes 16 weeks to complete. Why not consider it?"
The little girl's eyes were wide and bright. She could not understand what the people below are saying but she was content watching them since this action alone felt very secretive.
Lin Fang shook his head. "General Leng, I appreciate your offer but my sister needs me and I need her. I am the only man in the family now."
He smiled. "Mom and Dad told me to protect her so I have resigned myself to do just that."
"You are like your mother."
"Is that a compliment, General?"
"Like your mother, you are too soft. People like you get swayed easily by their emotions. Only when you lose these attachments will you be able to stand on top. You disappoint me."
"Ah... Then I would have to apologize, General Leng... since I can't be the son you want me to be."
"I don't have a son like you." The general's face was cold and unfeeling. The little girl shivered a little when she saw this.
'This mean old man is bullying my big brother!' She thought while shaking in place, feeling a bit scared.
Lin Fang laughed, placing his hands on his hips. He did not seem bothered by the general's words. In fact, he looked very carefree as if he hadn't been reprimanded.
"General Leng, you're right. You don't have a son like me and I don't have a father like you. Afterall, both my mother and father died a week ago. My mother who is an army medic while my father who is a Sergeant Major is now six feet under the ground."
