A Tragic tale of a mother

I was witnessing how cruel the world can be. The place where once there was a lively village was nothing but rubbles. The dried blood was all across the street along with signs of explosion and fire. There were no houses, no trees, nothing. Everything was gone.

By the time I reached the place where there used to be a small dock in order to tie the boots of the fishermen, a strong rotten smell overwhelmed my senses.

I stopped myself from vomiting on the spot. Somehow after tying the small boat with a large rock, I stepped on to the land.

The setting sun was casting a reddish glow in the sky.

The wind was changing slowly. Even though there were no clouds visible in the sky, I could tell that heavy downpour was going to happen soon.

Walking inside what once used to be a village I came across a large pile of Ash. Most of the ashes have dispersed with wind. So it left behind only half burnt corpses of people. Someone was missing an arm while someone was missing the entire head. Distinguishing anyone was impossible since most of their upper body had burnt away.

The smell of all those corpses along with the scene was the last thing I saw before darkness claimed me.

I woke up when I felt something falling on me. It was wet. Sitting up I realized that it was raining heavily. The sun was almost gone in the west. But the Western Sky was not covered by the clouds so I could still see my surroundings vaguely.

I was feeling disoriented when a strong pungent smell hit my nose. Without holding back this time I emptied my stomach on the ground.

*Rumble*Crackle*

Lightning crackled in the sky. But I felt completely numb. I was crying but no sound came from my mouth.

For the first time in my life I felt really really awful.

I didn't know when the darkest night of my life passed away. I didn't realize when the downpour stopped. Everything went too fast. Or my life was going too fast.

Next day by the time the rays of the morning sun hit my face my tears have already dried up.

The reality is harsh. No matter how I thought about it, the weight of the death of all these people are too much on my shoulders.

But no matter what I have to move forward. Steeling my nerves I stood up. I had decided to give everyone a proper burial before leaving this Island. And I was going to do just that.

I walked towards the place where our house used to be. Sure enough, everything was gone. Only the burnt ashes of a house has left. The tangerine farm was completely destroyed by fire. The sharpennels from the cannonballs were spread across the field. The marines seem to have targeted this place more than any other.

While I was returning from the field of sharpennels and empty shells of bullets, my eyes suddenly fell on a particular thing.

My entire body trembled uncontrollably when I picked up the thing. It was my kitty staff.

Belli's smiling face came to my mind as I cried again. The staff which she had gifted me has somehow survived the buster call.

I felt weak and powerless. I felt vulnerable. Maybe because I hadn't eaten anything since noon yesterday or because I was emotionally drained. I didn't know but walking forward became very difficult for me.

After finding no one in the village, I decided to go to the other side of the island in order to check on my secret cabin. After seeing the destruction here, I was not that hopeful. But even so I decided to go there, since it was the only place I could possibly find it tool to dig graves for the corpses in the middle of the village.

'Fuck ! Someone is inside my secret hideout !' I thought to myself when I saw the opening rock to my underground hideout was nowhere to be seen.

But then I realized that someone might have accidentally found it and survived.

But still I went inside the underground cave carefully, ready to take action if necessary.

But when I reached inside I found another corpse lying on the floor. His jaw was completely gone. Half of his face was burnt off. From the cap lying beside him, and his clothes I realized that it was Genzo. Someone has cut his head cleanly. Looking around I didn't find anything. But then my eyes fell on a letter on the table.

"Nami,

I am Genzo. If you are reading this letter then you have to believe what I will tell you.

As you have found out by now, our entire Island has been destroyed. And the culprit behind this destruction is the world government.

They accused the entire Island of mixing poison in the tangerine syrup that we send to the holy lands of Mariejoice.

Everyone is dead. The only two people who have survived are me and Nojiko. Unfortunately I don't think I can survive much long with the wound I have received.

Fortunately the revolutionary Dragon visited the island today and has taken in Nojiko. I have no hope of surviving nor do I have any wish.

I have survived this long just to convey my message and fullfill the last wish of a brave mother.

Bellemere, that fool took 15 bullets and still continued to protect Nojiko. Even after her death he protected her. He has only one thing to say to you two.

'Live as you wish. And I will always love you.'

If she could survive so long in order to protect her children then how could a man like me give up ?

But now that Nojiko is safe, I think I should pass away. Sorry for not being alive to say it myself. But Bellemere, your mother loved you more than her own life till her death.

I will end this letter here.

I didn't know that you built such a secret base for yourself. You saved both of us and kept your sister alive for 2 days.

So don't you ever feel guilty for anything.

Bellemere has given me her bracelet in order to give you if you ever come back. I am putting it in your drawer.

Sorry I want to write more but this pain is unbearable.

Just move on in your life. Don't ever disrespect your mother's love by blaming yourself for anything."

I cried as I opened the drawer to take out the bracelet. It was strained by blood but it was my most precious possession.

I didn't know why he thought that I will blame myself when he didn't know about me. But I got the message that Belli would have given me if she would have been alive.

Taking a deep breath I opened my eyes.

"Time to move on."
