36 What’s today’s big secret?

LJ

I looked at the camera lens and smiled. "Hey, this is LJ of Boy Next Door, you're watching us film the video for our newest song. I just shot a scene on the rooftop, it made me feel a little dangerous."

Eh, what was I supposed to say? Rooftop, outdoors, suicidal, youth gone wild... wait, they said I cannot say suicidal, that's right.

"It's mostly an outdoor shoot, I mean I have a lot of outdoor scenes, and we have to act in it, we're not ourselves, we play characters. Or at least, I play a character. Hahaha."

Oh lord, please stop me from giggling throughout this entire recording.

"We play rebel kids, kind of like James Dean and that era, trying to find our place in the world. The song is not about that, which I think is cool, I like videos that don't really follow the message of the song, so it's like the soundtrack of a film rather than an interpretation of the song. I think it's very artistic. I have a fight scene with Mark, he plays a character, too. We wouldn't really fight in real life. Well, we haven't yet."

OMFG I'm rambling. And I nearly said Jamie and Steve fight all the time, shit. What else was I supposed to say? Did I talk about the song yet?

"The song is written by Steve, it's one of my favourites that he's written so far, very deep and dramatic. I hope you all give this song and video a lot of love."

"And CUT!"

I looked up at Mitch. "I'm done?"

"Yes, that's great, thanks."

"Cool," I shook his hand and the camera guy's hand and thanked them and ran over to the buffet.

Jamie and Burt were standing there already, filling up plates. They were whispering to each other, Jamie was shaking his head.

"What's today's big secret?" I jumped in between them and swiped a sausage from Burt's plate.

"We were discussing whether or not people will miss you if I cut your body up into tiny pieces and dumped them into the river," Burt replied, obviously not yet forgiving me for what I said to Billy this morning.

"I said people will miss you because you're an annoying shit," Jamie added.

"Thanks, Jame," I squeezed his shoulders and reached for the chicken leg on his plate. I ducked away before he could either grab it back or hit me and picked up my own plate. "Are you all done doing the behind the scenes interviews?"

"Yes," Jamie said as Burt said, "No." He looked at Jamie and said, "Can we not get interviewed at all?"

"I don't think they expect so much from you anyway," Jamie shrugged. I laughed at that. He decided that he had enough food on his plate (he put two new chicken legs for good measure) and sat at the table reserved for us.

We heard the music playing on for Mark's scene outside. "Hey," Burt pointed at the ceiling. "That's new. It's smoother."

He meant the rap. I nodded, stuffing my mouth with bread. "He re-recorded the rap last night."

"Wow, and Steve got it mixed already, did he even sleep?" I shrugged in response, but didn't know if Burt saw me shrug, as he had asked this while looking at the food in front of him. Since nobody was answering his question, he turned to look at Jamie at the table.

"What?" Jamie grunted.

Just then, Steve walked into the room. "What's good?" he asked us, as Jamie got up again and left the room with his plate.

I stared after Jamie's back. "Are you guys fighting again?" I asked when the door closed.

"Don't ask," Steve grumbled. He picked up a plate, overtook me on the buffet queue and started piling sausages. Burt and I stared at him for a few seconds but I worried that I would run out of sausages and started filling my own plate.

We all sat down at our table and ate in uncomfortable silence. I should ask Jamie later if he had anything for indigestion, just in case.

"Are you done with behind the scenes?" Steve asked, suddenly all normal again.

I nodded. "I said this song is my favourite of yours."

"Why are you talking about the song? I'm supposed to talk about the song," Steve said. He sounded like he was complaining, but I think he was just trying to change the mood.

"You're welcome," I said, making both of them laugh.

"Do I have to do the interview?" Burt asked again.

"We can choose not to do the interview?" I asked with my mouth full.

"What do you care, you're done already," Steve said. "And thank you, I'm glad you like our song."

Steve was fine, so I guess Jamie was just being antisocial today or something. "You're welcome again," I said, but my mouth was still full so they pretended they didn't understand what I said.

"What?" Steve asked. "You love my song so much that you want to buy us drinks after the shoot?"

"Wow," Burt exclaimed. "You're so generous, LJ! Thank you!"

I laughed so hard I started choking.
