Declan
“Good morning, Mom!” Henley said, sounding a bit too chipper. “Are you excited about your wedding today?” Her smile faded as she listened. “Mom, you need to go ahead and get married. This shouldn’t change anything.” She waited while her mother talked again. “I know, Mom, but we kept the palace out of it. Declan couldn’t help that she decided to make yesterday the day she barged into the Waterway Club! She had no idea what was going on. No one does.” She listened for another minute. “Mom, you need to go on with your plans. Nothing has changed. We’re dressed and ready. We’re just having breakfast, and we’ll meet you at the church.”
“Here you go!” the waitress said, placing two coffee cups on the table. “Your food will be out in just a minute.” Then she hurried away, obviously sensing that she had just interrupted something.
I added sugar and stirred my coffee. “Well?”
