TAKE THE LEAD

People often say dream big, but make it possibly applicable only for the boys. Girls have no right when it comes to dreaming big. Girls are like birds who want to fly but their feather is cut down by the big scissor held by their family or the society.

But in my case it was different. Thanks to my marks my father decided to send me to Delhi, the capital city of India.

He decided on using more of his money for my study rather than my brother's. And this was very unusual for the neighbours.

When they came to know about the future planning of my study, they gave it their best shot in persuading my father to back down on his decision.

I know this since I heard an uncle discussing these things with my father. My father would often come home and tell me the people he met and all that they said about sending me far to study.

"Why don't you study in the local college"

"Why don't you study here..."

"Why don't you study there..."

Days after my 12th, my life was extremely difficult due to the pressure brought up by the society. My choice of subject led them to criticize me.

"Why take up humanities"

"Why don't you study science"

"Did you score so low that you didn't even get to study science"

"How will you earn money by studying humanities"

These were the usual things I heard.

But what do I tell them

How do u explain them that if everybodys studies science, our planet will be full of doctors and nothing else since by studying science they mean becoming a doctor.

Society does not include being a teacher or professor after studying science.

Who will the doctors learn from if there are no teachers.

From where will the doctors get their instruments if there are no manufacturers.

Where will the doctors work If there are no engineers to plan a workplace for them.

Society knows how to rant but nothing more than that.

Well people do not stop there.

There are some people who realize the importance of other subjects but they are still confused by the fact that my father is ready to spend so much money on me who is one day going to marry a man and leave them parents behnd.

I took a very long time to realize that their belief is not gonna change.

If I want to bring a change I must prove myself to the people, not only for me but for the whole community of women who are extremely talented and can stand all alone in the man's world without anyone to lean back on.
