Masochists

The moment she stepped into this village, there was a rush of familiarity. Maybe she had forgotten another fragment of her past life, but no matter how hard she thought, only a blurred vision appeared.

Yu Xuelan snapped out of her thoughts and remembered there was a girl who was still smashing her head onto the floor repeatedly.

"Please get up," Yu Xuelan said once again and crouched down to hold Lin Changying's arm, but the girl responded with a smack.

Yu Xuelan furrowed her brows and stared at her hand, which was smacked away. At that moment, she experienced a rush of déjà vu. An unpleasant one.

"No! I can't! I hate myself to the core. Please... Please don't be so nice! I want you to curse me to death! Then I can feel like I have atoned for my sins!" She pleaded.

Yu Xuelan raised Changying's head that was still lowered to the ground with her finger, and asked, "Alright, would you feel better if I hit you?"

"Yes! Hit me as much as you want! Until you are satisfied!" Lin Changying begged.

Yu Xuelan's smile instantly faded as a shiver crawled down her spine. Instead of hitting Changying, Yu Xuelan wanted to hit herself!

She looked around the room and genuinely just wanted to escape this entire situation. Maybe if she jumped out the window and ran away everything would be solved. But she couldn't leave Wu Zhitian here alone, so that plan was cancelled.

Yu Xuelan raised her palm and flicked Lin Changying's forehead, which startled her from the short, stinging pain.

"I'm done punishing you," Yu Xuelan smiled dismissively and dragged the girl up off the floor.

The crying girl stared at her twin sister who gazed at her gently, "Why? Don't you hate me? Don't you detest me so much that you want me dead?"

What was Yu Xuelan supposed to say? She did not feel obliged to brush off something that Lin Yuhe might have not forgiven.

Maybe she should use this chance and make use of the girl, but Lin Changying was not stupid. Yu Xuelan knew this very well. So why did she act like she was stupid?

Stupid people act smart. Smart people act stupid.

Well, Yu Xuelan couldn't say anything against this since she also had a habit of behaving deceitfully. Perhaps they were more similar than she thought.

The black-clad girl rubbed her temples and thought for a while. Just when she was about to ask, "Want me to kill you?" She finally squeezing her brain for something to say that was not inhumane.

"If you really want to be forgiven, then tell everyone you know in the entire village you are Changying."

Lin Changying's face grew pale by the request, not even the darkness of the room could hide that fact, but Yu Xuelan continued, "And if they kick you out of the village, then you must leave this village and find another place to live. But if they don't and they accept you, then you can live happily here as Lin Changying. How does that sound?"

She darted her eyes back and forth and pondered. Yu Xuelan could not blame this girl for hesitating, since anyone would be scared to expose a lie they had been carrying for ten years.

"I... I'll do it!" She answered.

Yu Xuelan smiled and patted her shoulder, "Alright."

"Is there anything else? You can beat me up if you want!" Lin Changying said.

Upon hearing the words "beat up," Yu Xuelan stepped back in panic, wondering why this girl wanted to get hit so badly. If this girl was to end up in the prison chambers, she would probably smile in relief and enjoy every second of her time in prison.

Yu Xuelan awkwardly laughed, "No thank you... I'm good..."

She glanced out the window, realizing the clouds had already travelled away from the moon, causing the moonlight to bring a comforting coldness to the graphite night.

"Well, it's getting late. I should rest now since my master and I need to depart from this village early tomorrow," Yu Xuelan said.

Lin Changying gaped and disbelief riddled her expression. Although her 'twin sister' had forgiven her, Lin Changying felt something was rather off upon seeing how her sister had forgiven her so easily.

To think such a cruel incident could be brushed off with a smile of ease. Lin Changying thought her sister must be more stubborn than she thought.

"Alright." Changying agreed and prepared to walk herself out of the room, still feeling an indescribable presence lurking from the conversation.

She stopped her steps when Yu Xuelan grabbed the corner of her sleeves.

"Do you perhaps know where mother's grave is?"

Lin Changying hesitated but responded, "It's back at the old hut. I'm sorry, I'm sure there are lots of things you want to talk to mother about."

"Thank you, Changying," Yu Xuelan said and gave a shallow bow, which Lin Changying returned. "I'll see you tomorrow."

Yu Xuelan gazed at the back that slowly disappeared into the distance before slumping back on her bed and stared at her hand.

"Lin Changying? Changying? Chang... Ying?" She mumbled and covered her eyes with her arms. Yu Xuelan sighed and turned around, slowly letting her eyelids sink down.

This girl definitely appeared familiar.

"I wonder if Wu Zhitian is asleep?"
