I See Two Of Myself But I'm Not On Drugs

Wu Zhitian and Yu Xuelan continued to walk through the Ming'An Village and soon, the sun immersed itself below the horizon. The fleeting colours of dusk gradually faded into a burning red, yet it produced a cool breeze.

"Look, there's a guest house there. We should book a room since it's getting quite dark," Yu Xuelan advised as her eyes drifted to the setting sun.

"Mn."

As he watched the girl skip to the guesthouse, a subtle smile escaped his lips, and he prepared to follow her. However, he was stopped by a child's sudden cry from the corner of the building.

...

"Welcome to Ming'An's Guest House!" A girl's voice welcomed the black hooded visitor.

"I'd like to book two rooms please," Yu Xuelan requested and prepared to bring out the gold silver coins she took from Wu Zhitian.

She darted her eyes left and right and noticed he wasn't there.

"We have two rooms available that are next to each other and that will amount to thirty silver coins."

Yu Xuelan placed the coins on the counter and took her hood off since it was blocking her view.

At once, the receptionist froze, and her face changed into many colours.

She stared at Yu Xuelan's face, examining every inch of her, not leaving out a single corner. Seeing how strange the receptionist was behaving, Yu Xuelan looked at the girl and blinked in confusion.

"?!"

An unsettling feeling whirled inside of the receptionist, and her stomach twisted in knots. Yu Xuelan was also relatively startled upon seeing the extremely familiar girl that stood in front of her. They both stared at each other silently, utterly speechless.

After all, the girl who stood in front of Yu Xuelan...

Looked exactly like her.

Well, to be exact, the girl looked exactly like Lin Yuhe, the body she had taken over.

The young maiden dropped the room keys and immediately grabbed Yu Xuelan's hood to cover it back over her head, forcing it down ruthlessly.

This situation astounded her and Yu Xuelan thought that maybe her eyes were playing tricks on her, but seeing as how the other girl reacted, she was definitely not hallucinating.

"What, what are you doing back?" The girl trembled, biting her nails.

Yu Xuelan lifted her hood and blinked her eyes multiple times so she could double-check to see if she actually was not just hallucinating. After a few more glances, she confirmed she was not.

The only difference in their physical appearances would be that Lin Yuhe had a mole on her face and the other girl didn't have one at all. This was quite amusing.

"You, what? Um, Ah...!" the girl blurted random words in a panic.

"Lin Yuhe, what's wrong?" An elderly walked to the counter, expressing his concerns to the panicked girl.

"Nothing, just a, um, friend."

She was bewildered that the old man called the girl 'Lin Yuhe' since she thought she was Lin Yuhe.

"Alright, I'm going to go eat. Look after the guest house for me."

After the man's back could no longer be seen, Lin Yuhe dragged Yu Xuelan outside of the building. She double-checked if there was anyone around and pushed her to the alleyway beside the guest house.

Even with this strange situation, she wondered where Wu Zhitian wandered off to, though her mind was brought back to this girl in front of her after.

"What are you doing here? Did you run away?" 'Lin Yuhe' whispered, afraid that someone would see them while still gripping onto Yu Xuelan's shoulder.

Yu Xuelan glanced at the trembling hands that held her shoulder as a flash of her memory appeared in her head again. An unpleasant memory.

"Yes," Yu Xuelan replied quietly, having absolutely no idea what she was referring to.

"Why did you run away?" 'Lin Yuhe' asked.

Yu Xuelan sighed, "You've been asking me what I'm doing, but what exactly are you doing? Lin Yuhe?"

"Look, I can explain, but first of all, can you answer my questions? Hm?" the girl insisted.

The fact that this girl, who was clearly younger than Yu Xuelan herself, was talking to her as though she were a two-year-old child made her feel strange. However, she just nodded since, physically, they were both the same age.

"Let's move further down the alley and we can talk there," she advised and held onto Yu Xuelan's wrist.

The moment Lin Yuhe touched Yu Xuelan's wrist, she examined her spiritual foundation thoroughly, and it concluded with a match. So the possibility of the girl being a demon dressed in human skin or a demon possessing her body was cancelled out.

"Alright," Yu Xuelan agreed.

Just as they were about to walk in further, a familiar figure dressed in white robes came out from the deep end of the alleyway, holding a child who was sucking onto a lollipop in his arms.

A large smile instantly passed her face when she saw it was Wu Zhitian. Even they had only separated for a short while, it felt like she had not seen him in months.

"Thank you, mister! I'll get going now. My grandpa is waiting for me. If you come by our store, I'll make sure grandpa will give you the sweetest red bean buns!" The child beamed with joy and Wu Zhitian lowered himself to let the child back onto the ground.

The young boy waved goodbye to the cultivator and turned around.

"Oh, hello, Yuhe-dajie!" The child greeted the girl next to Xuelan before running out of the alleyway.

Lin Yuhe did not return the greeting, except she stayed silently still and couldn't bring the courage to make eye contact with Yu Xuelan.

"Master!" Yu Xuelan yelled out delightfully, offering a wide smile and a wave.

"Master?" Lin Yuhe stuttered, her hands tremored and her knees weakened. "Is that really Master Xiao?"

"Hm? Why are you here?" Wu Zhitian asked Yu Xuelan.

"Nothing, I was just hungry."

The boy's heart tightened and looked around at the alleyway that was filled with nothing but darkness and dirt.

"I heard food tastes good back in the alleyways," Yu Xuelan jokingly laughed and shrugged.

Those words ignited a rush of sadness in Wu Zhitian. He seemed to remember something Yu Xuelan had forgotten about herself.

Upon closer inspection, Wu Zhitian saw the trembling girl beside Yu Xuelan, yet his expression remained indifferent, as though seeing two of the same people did not faze him at all.

Yu Xuelan laughed, "I was just joking! Let's go somewhere else-"

"No, you can't!" The girl exclaimed, gripping her fists so tightly that her nails could almost pierce her skin.

"I-I...ah...I..." she stuttered and bit her already chewed off nails.

Yu Xuelan, "?"

"I'm so sorry!" She yelled and gave a ninety-degree bow, "But please, please don't stay here any longer!"
