Timer Repair

Mitchell showed me around the nearby town. Unlike most SG1 planet explorations, It wasn't a village of huts and primitive people. It was a planet that was more advanced than earth. Their main form of transportation were hover shoes. The bottom of the shoes housed a shielded battery pack making it okay to walk on. The sides of the shoes had strong fans similar to the ones on drones but more heavy duty and powerful. The fans had guards on them to protect it's user and others from bodily harm.

To activate the shoes, you had to use the right shoe to press the button on the back of the left shoe, which would cause the fans to start. To retract the fans, you did the same. To go in different directions, you simply leaned towards the direction you wanted to go.

Just like how humans on earth learned to ride bikes, learning to use hover shoes was a rite of passage for the inhabitants of this world. Considering I didn't have hover shoes and I didn't feel like running around everywhere, Mitchel and I both walked to our destination. I would have liked a pair, but I doubted they could lift my weight.

When we reached our destination, we walked into what looked like an auto repair shop, but obviously that couldn't be the case because this world didn't have cars as far as I knew.

Mitchell yelled out. "Jami, Ive brought you a customer".

Jami was a girl around Mitchells age and was one of the prettiest girls I had seen while on this planet. I started to wonder if she had the qualification to touch my timer. I worried Mitchell was bewitched by her looks and wanted to win her over by bringing her valuable customers. It seemed like something a young inexperienced man would do.

Michell as if reading my mind assured me "She's the best I know, don't let her youth and good looks fool you".

"What can I do for you?" Jami asked while looking at me, seemingly not caring about my size or appearance.

"Have you ever worked on machines that could transport people from one dimension to another?" I asked, doubtful id ever find a person that could say yes to that question.

This caught Jami's attention and she moved closer "The closest thing I've worked on was a stargate that needed repair, but I'm a fast learner. If you show me your device, I can tell you if I am able to do what you want to it or not"

Her words seemed honest, so I handed her the timer. I wasn't worried about it. I wouldn't let the timer out of my sight, if she tried anything funny I would just kill her. The worst that could happen is that she damaged the Timer beyond repair, but the timer is not a need. There were devices even in the stargate universe that could transport me to alternate dimensions. Still, you really couldn't beat a hand held Timer.

Jami looked at the front and back and then pushed what looked like a flathead onto the side, pulling off the exterior of the device. "Don't worry, I'm just popping off the cover to look at it's insides. What exactly do you want me to do to this device? It seems functional".

"The device is unreliable and opens portals on it's own. I want to be able to open one whenever I want and It also has a record inside it that shows the places I've visited already. I would like to be able to go to those dimensions whenever I want." I replied.

She nodded her head and continued looking at the device. After what seemed like ten minutes of silence, she spoke up. "I think I can do what you ask, it doesn't seem much different from repairing a stargate. It has a similar concept. I want you to know that I'm only 85% sure that I can repair it, I might end up breaking it in the process. Are you okay with this?"

"Yes, do your best"

She nodded again before looking me up and down. "You don't look like you have much to offer. You showed me an interesting piece of technology, so ill take that as your payment this time. I just want you to promise that you bring items like this to me in the future if you need something worked on. I'll also give you a discount each time if the technology excites me like this one."

I was surprised by her business intelligence. "Thank you, I promise I will" I said, before looking over to Mitchell "Thank you as well".

Mitchell smiled "I just wanted to score points with Jami, no need to thank me".

I fuckin' knew it. This Rascal. I didn't worry about it though, she seemed competent enough and was willing to work for free. I couldn't beat this deal. I was worried I would have had to trade off my lightsaber, leaving me without one until I went back to grab another one.

As Jami got to work on my timer, I took out the power source and examined it, it was basically a large power cell filled with liquid naquadah. All of the Jaffa's staff weapons and most of the Goa'uld technology ran on very small amounts of this precious resource. This amount should be more than enough for one gate dial to Atlantis. I wasn't as good as Jami, but working on my fathers ship, I had a basic understanding of how most technology worked. I could easily hook this up to the stargate myself. It was a simple matter that I did not need to ask Jami to help with.

Jami exceeded my expectations, completing the timer within just 5 hours of me handing it to her.

She handed me the device. "I added buttons to the side of the device. If you push one and then push the timer button, it will take you to the gate address you stored on that button. To store an address, simply find the address you want and then hold the button down that you want it stored on. If you do not press an address button before pressing the timer button, the destination will be random. It shouldn't open portals on it's own from now on. Do you want to test it out here? Id love to see it in action".

I shook my head. "Maybe some other time, I trust you did a good job. I have somewhere I need to go, if the timer doesn't work properly, ill just bring it back to you."

I said my goodbyes to Mitchell and Jami, before walking around town visiting shops until night came around and less people were in the streets. I then headed to the stargate. Looking around to make sure nobody was around. I quickly hooked up the power cell to the stargate dial station and then dialed Atlantis.. This time when the chevrons were all dialed in, a beautiful blue portal formed.

Worried the portal wouldn't hold long, I walked through. I wasn't too worried about the other side of the portal, I doubted any threat was on the other side unless Earth had already taken control of it. I also didn't have the luxury of time and energy cells to check. Still, I raised my meat shield up in front of me as I walked through.
