To be pulled back

Adiria, stood there, behind the wall, listening to their entire conversation and a frown appeared on her face, clearly showing that she was not happy with what was going on, she exhaled deeply, for she knew, after they were finished, nothing she say will change anything.

The girl lowered her head and clenched her fists tightly, in anger, for she didn't want her father to give in to the soldiers, who were compelling him to go to fight with them and she gritted her teeth.

The child didn't want anything to happen to her father and feared losing another one of her parents, just as she was about to walk away, the babysitter saw her and she sighed, feeling a little bad for the child.

"Adiria," She said as she approached her, then crouched down and the girl smiled as she looked up.

"Good morning, I just woke up, I am feeling a bit weird, can I have a glass of milk?" She asked and the woman's eyes widened as she looked at the child.

'How can a little child like her, mind be so strong? She is acting like a responsible adult, even though she was hurting so much,' The woman thought then hugged the girl tightly.

"Maria, I am okay and I am sorry for yesterday," She said as she glanced at the woman, who fritted her teeth.

'Why are things like this for this child? Are you against her happiness? Why? She is so small and innocent yet she has to behave like this,' Maria thought as tears came to her eyes and Adiria patted her on the back.

"I am fine, please don't worry, I am going to freshen up then we will all have breakfast together," She said and Maria wiped her tears, then raised off of the girl with a smile on her face.

"All right, you go do what, I will get everything ready for breakfast," She replied and Adiria nodded, then left and Maria sighed, before returning to the kitchen, to prepare their breakfasts.

After returning to her room, Adiria sat down on her bed with her eyes narrowed as a few thoughts came to her mind, while remembering the dreams she would usually have and she exhaled deeply with her eyes shimmering.

'There is nothing I can do, all I can do is accept it, whether I like it or not, changes nothing,' She thought.

The girl grabbed her clothes, went to the bathroom and began freshening up, while her father was still talking to the soldiers and when she was finished, she got dressed and left her room.

She went to the living room, neatly dressed and greeted the soldiers then her father glanced at her with his brows furrowed and she smiled brightly at him, a smile that was clearly fake and the soldiers were quite pleased to see her, for they liked her.

"Papa, breakfast is ready, I am hungry," She said and one of her father's friend, patted her on her head and she grinned.

"You have a cute kid, I am sure she will grow up fine, for now, we will take your leave, we hope to see you soon, you are one of our best, general," A guy, who was a lieutenant said as he walked away with his eyes narrowed and Adiria clenched her fist tightly as she looked at him.

'I don't like him, if I was an adult, I would have kicked them out of here and onto the streets, I hate two-sided by like them the most,' She thought with a piercing look in her eyes.

The very guy that looked back at her father, eyes landed on her and his brows furrowed, when he saw the way, she was looking at him with a piercing look in her eyes and her father saw then covered her eyes and she flinched.

"Father..." She mumbled.

"Sweetheart, we need to talk, let's eat breakfast," He said and she moved his hand away from her eyes then turned away from her father.

"I understand that you couldn't say no, I am not going to agree either father, I would never, to sending you away, to places like that, but I know that you can't disagree either, still I will never, it's not like I need to," She replied as she walked away from her father.

"Adiria..." Maria mumbled as the child sat down by the table and her father lowered his gaze, understand what his daughter meant by what she just said.

Just then he realized that his kid's birthday was the next day and he would be leaving on the same day, nothing bothered him more than that.

'She said that because she is worried but even so, there is nothing that we can do about it,' Her father thought then sat down with her and they began eating their breakfast.

"Adiria, I am sorry," Her father said and she looked at him with a pitiful smile on her face.

"You don't need to say you are sorry, it's not your fault, it's theirs," She replied as she placed a glass of juice in front of him and he smiled then thanked her for understanding and she grinned.

Maria knew that the girl had many different opinions concerning everything, but had to keep it to herself, for her father was not the only one, who was being pulled back to the army to fight their war.

'They can't fight their own fights, they rather other people....' She thought with a slight smile on her face as she ate.

Her dreams came flashing before her eyes and she ignored them, even though she wanted to cry out, like a normal kid would, at the time, but didn't want to hurt her father anymore.

That day, the father and child, spent a lot of time, doing many things together, since none of them had any either, how long the ones that were being taken from them, would be gone for and they tried their best to be happy with them and stifled down, the fear within.

The next day, when it was time for her father to leave, she greeted him as well as the other soldiers who came to get him.

She looked at some of the other children in their area, who were crying at the departure of their loved ones and her eyes trembled as her father left, waving at her with a bright smile on his face.

"No..." She mumbled.

"Father!"

The child ran after him and Maria and the others gasped, for they didn't expect her to do that and her father jumped off of his horse, when he saw her running barefoot and he rushed to her.

He grabbed onto her, lifting her in his arm, hugging her tightly as she cried and Maria as well as the others smiled, for that was the first time, in a long time, that she actually acted like a kid and the other soldiers stopped, looking back at them.
