Delusional

Seeing his pitiful situation, I smiled and let him take all the ice cubes. He looked funny munching on them like there was no tomorrow and ran away.

Seriously? Why does everybody run away from me? I huffed. I never thought that this mission would feel like a punishment. Am I being punished?

My thoughts were distracted when I felt my stomach rumbling. I wondered what it was until the boy who took my ice cubes handed me something.

"Do vampires eat burgers?" the boy asked. Ugh, his high-pitched voice was hurting my ears.

"Vampires . . . what?" I asked, looking at the piece of bread with some grass on it.

"You look like a vampire with your costume," the boy said. "You must be hungry. Take it before I change my mind—"

"And run away?" I cut him off before grabbing the soft object he was offering me. “What’s this?” I asked with narrowed eyes

The boy laughed. "Giddy. My name is Giddy," he said, extending his hand to which I didn't respond.

"Listen, Giddy. Your name sounds strange just like my stomach. I felt like I needed to shove something into my mouth. What do I do with this piece of sh*t you're giving me anyway—" I gasped. "—Did I just say profanity?"

The boy shrugged. "You've just said it. Shove it into your mouth. And yes, you've just said the dirty word 'sh*t'," he said. "Hunger is a human thing. Once you possess a human body, your mind and soul will immediately mix up in no time. You will start to feel human emotions. Pain, hunger, confusion, hatred, everything human. And the most disgusting of all? Love. Everything that your vessel has, language, mindset, feelings, desires, lust, name it. You and your vessel will become one. And the worst? You will lose your 'angelic identity'. Never ever fall in love with a human." I didn't understand what he was mumbling about, but I froze at his words for a moment.

"Holy cow!" I exclaimed. "You're an angel? I didn't know any angel named Giddy in heaven."

"It's not my real name, of course!" The boy laughed which made my jaw dropped. "It's Gideon, and I think your vessel is starting to eat you up now, Micca. You've gotta be careful. Your language is the purest that I've ever heard from the most powerful angel the heaven has created."

"But why are you here? Let me guess, Gideon. A mission?" I asked.

"Yes, I was tasked to be your guide, your majesty," he joked.

"My guide? Ha ha ha! You even suck at choosing vessels, man. Seriously? You're using a 10-year-old boy's body?"

"Uh uh. This boy has a pure and untainted soul, Micca. Unlike yours . . . a human being with a troubled soul? Seriously? I bet your soul will burn in hell sooner than you could ever complete your mission. And you're right, this vessel is ten years old."

"I did not choose this body! I am a man! Why am I in a female's body?!"

"Ha ha ha! It sounds like this red-haired gangster of a human body possessed your angel being then, huh?" Gideon laughed boisterously. “You’re supposed to possess, not to be possessed!”

"Yeah, I think so." I sighed while he continued laughing.

My stomach suddenly rumbled loudly for the second time, making Gideon glare at me.

"Well, well. I think the only thing that remains masculine in you is your stomach," he said before handing me another soft object to shove into my mouth. “That’s called ‘burger’.”

“Are burgers for angels?” I asked, but he vanished into thin air.

Barachiel took his finger away, and it felt like I came from a long, long journey. I gasped for air and opened my eyes when I finally felt relief.

“Still have questions?” he asked.

“I don’t know, but yeah, I remember,” I answered. “So . . . if you will send me back to earth, then what will happen to me? Will I go back to being stupid and dangerous?”

“You can’t do anything. If you like, you can visit here anytime to recharge or reset of some sort. You can leave your vessel while she’s sleeping, but make sure she doesn’t do anything ‘stupid and dangerous’.” He looked straight into my eyes.

“Alright then, what are you waiting for?”

“Take this,” he said before throwing a little hourglass at me which I gladly caught. “Do not wait until it’s too late. Remember, every second counts. Find Human and bring him back, and resist all forms of temptation from your vessel. Anyway, you have Gideon to guide you.

“Can I look for another vessel?”

“If you could, then you would have done it, wouldn't you?”

“I don’t know. I just opened my eyes one day and found myself in this woman’s body.”

“Which looks awkward on him by the way,” a voice suddenly interrupted.

“Giddy! You’re here!” I threw my arms around Gideon in his tall and manly version.

“Hey, get off me! Your vessel is disgusting in those two huge coconuts!” he said.

“You’re here, boy!” I continued to hug him, but he pushed me away. He smelled his garment and wiped it as if I was dirt.

“Jerk!” I muttered.

“Call me jerk, whatever. I am just here to drag you back to earth,” he said. “If not for Barachiel, I would have never wasted my time on you, traitor,” he muttered to himself.

“Excuse me? Did you just call me a trai—"

“Enough! Now go,” Barachiel said before clicking his finger, then it all went black.

I felt the sun piercing through my skin and a tongue licking my face. Distinct voices and sirens could be heard while a stinky smell just kept rushing through my nose. Opening my eyes, I found myself lying on a busy street with a cat continuously licking me.

Shoo! Disgusting.

The cat went away, and I was left dumbfounded.

Wait. Did that kitty just hear me speak in my head?

An old woman bent forward and looked at me. "I think she's still alive. Did somebody call 911?"

I got up and held my aching head. I felt something wet and saw blood when I looked at my hand. Feeling dizzy, I stared at the crowd looking at me with anxious and curious faces. Three paramedics in white suits hurriedly put my vessel on a stretcher, lifted it, and moved it in towards the ambulance. When the doors were closed, the vehicle immediately rushed on its way with a shrilling sound of the siren.

My eyes were restless, I could see the paramedics looking at me with concern.

"You're safe," one of them said and smiled, holding my hand.

As if my strength was revived, I quickly got up from the stretcher and forcefully opened the door. The paramedics held my hands and pulled me back, but I managed to throw elbow strikes at their faces, releasing me in the process.

"Hey, what's going on?' the driver asked.

I turned to see the three bleeding and groaning in pain.

"Stop the ambulance! Stop the ambulance!" one of them shouted at the driver while the other two managed to grab my hair.

The ambulance zigzagged that made people crossing the street run as fast as they could. One woman swiftly carried the baby stroller with her baby inside, while others accidentally dropped their food and groceries in panic.

As the vehicle screeched to a stop, I kicked the door open and ran away at the speed of light.
