It was just one mistake!!!!

As Corban was making his way in, I wondered to myself if he worked for the Wrights too. It wasn't like he gave me any background information about himself.

Just that he was Corban, unsure about his last name. And I have most definitely never met him before, seeing as I am not in the business of breaking bones. I can't blame the guy for not telling me much, I almost broke his limbs after all. Accidentally, but still.

On the other hand, Jacob waited until Corban was out of earshot before talking again.

It was out of context but he said, "Try not to harass the receptionist." His poker-faced look was saying it all. Realization crawled its way into my dainty mind.

"I wouldn't!!!" You made a mistake just once and they wouldn't let it go!

I didn't get us arrested {not yet anyway, but it's most likely in my future}. Neither did I start a riot to take over the world. But the little things we do, the teeny weeny mistakes are never forgotten. Why is that so? Think about it.

"But, it's your specialty..."

Oh, how much I would like to knock off that smile. And shave those wiggling brows. How much.

I huffed, crossing my arms. "She overreacted."

It's not a story I like to tell. But just so you know, I was trying to get to speak with the boss of a company once and Jacob went with me. We didn't have an appointment but I hoped my luck would be good enough. It wasn't. Let's just say I didn't make it past the reception.

"You wouldn't stop ogling her moonstone necklace." It was more of a passing statement, and he walked back to his car. The driver's seat suddenly seemed good for him. Of course, I was on his tail.

"I was admiring it." I defended myself, also taking a seat. "Besides, she refused to tell me where she got it from." That sort of stubbornness is ridiculous in my opinion.

"How was that your business?"

Was that chastisement I could hear in his voice? I have a mother who does the chastising already.

"I didn't have an appointment. So, I thought dishing compliments will give me an edge." Sweet talking is supposed to be the perfect recipe for charming your way into people's hearts. Her heart was ice cold. "But I realized that piece of jewelry was really good, so I became interested in knowing where she got it from. But she wouldn't tell me." And I'm not kidding. I really did ask where she got it from, but she hmphed and tutted me to keep quiet.

If a random stranger was trying to get into my company, without an appointment, obviously violating the rules, complimented my piece of clothing, I would let them in. I would also tell the stranger where I got the clothes from, even though it is evident they would never be able to afford them. It's just what you're supposed to do.

"So you made her feel uncomfortable by never removing your eyes from her tits." The words just rolled off his tongue argumentatively. "If you weren't straight I'll assume you bent that way."

"Not her tits!!!" At this moment, I knew I had patience, for I didn't pull my hair. "The necklace was resting on her chest. Besides, I bet she had a sugar daddy or something."

I wasn't trying to say anything bad about her. But it was suspicious. Very suspicious.

"Why would you assume that!!!" I haven't seen his eyes as wide as it was when he spoke. It wasn't even that wide when Corban fell.

"The necklace looked so expensive." Rolling my eyes at his theatrics, "Expensive as in `even if I sell all my assets, it wouldn't be enough to purchase this. ʼ I had a right to be suspicious." In fairness, I didn't have any right. But who cares?

"Maybe she's rich." Of course, he would be on her side.

I did consider her being rich, but then.... Nah. I'm not going with that theory. I like my own better.

Smiling to myself, "Or she has a sugar daddy." It was more of a thought that just slipped out of my mouth.

"It's a good thing you didn't tell her this." He stared me down, scrunching his nose in disapproval. Disapprove all you want Jacob, but I am right.

Oh boy, it was a surprise to me too. Things like that just usually slip out. I have no filter.

Except as you know, in embarrassing situations.

"Does it matter anyway? " Making a disgruntled noise, "Didn't she still throw us out?" My tongue clicked with disapproval. Her audacity irks me to the core.

"Point of correction, you got thrown out." Pointing at me, "I was asked to leave and she also told me sorry."

"Pfft, such a kiss-ass." I know that because she was ogling and drinking up his appearance in front of me. And she dared to call me the shameless one.

After my comment, Jacob pushed me out of his car. Forcing me to walk into the building for my appointment. It was time anyway.

"Hi, I have an appointment with Mr. Wright," I said to the receptionist I met inside the building. She wasn't here when I came the first time.

She sounded professional when asking, "What's your name please?"

"Makena Anderson." Yes, the infamous, lovable, and super nice but sometimes weird Makena. Dressed in divorce outfits that are not at all slutty.

As Miss Professional cross-checked for my name on the appointment list, it gave me time to take in her appearance. All I could notice was she wasn't wearing any expensive jewelry. No moonstone whatsoever. Is that a good or bad thing?

"You can go to his office." Looking up from the book, "The first room on the first floor."

"Okay." Not mentioning that I already knew where his office is located. "Thank you."

I mean, anything to ensure I don't get thrown out again right?

Here goes nothing. Cross your fingers for me.

Hey there,

I'm urging you to compliment a stranger today. Don't oggle their jewelry please. But say something nice, or just make someone smile.

Ps, don't forget that you're someone too.

Have some idea about my story? Comment it and let me know.
