“I’ll tell you something else, too. I detest cowards. I won’t scrub the dregs off the street just so I can say ‘Look at me. I saved them!’ No. I will not take responsibility for you or your life.

“Take care of yourself. I want someone who knows what she wants and is willing to make the effort to get it, not someone who hopesit’ll be handed to her on a silver platter.

“I want someone in my life that will walk beside me. I will not drag you behind me. If that’s what you want, then find someone else. I will notbe that person, so you can just get the hell out of here.”

She turned as another thought came to her. Her voice was lower, but filled with tension.

“In fact, get the hell out of here right now. You disgust me. You’re not the person I want in my bed, or even in my house. Just get out before I call the police and have you removed. If you leave something behind, I’ll have Susan mail it to you.”
