“Yes, and the situation is different now. I’ll accompany you to the police.”

Realization dawns in Kyle. He covers his face with both his hands. “My God, what have I done? Dad’s going to jail.”

Gardner touches his arm gently. “Don’t worry about it. We’ll hire the best lawyer. Besides, it wasn’t something he planned to do, and it could be seen as self-defense.”

“We?” Kyle asks weakly.

“Yes, we. For your information, I make a lot of money doing this job, not only from Antonio. I’ll help you. After all, I’m your husband now. And you’ll be free from his clutches. We can be married for real.”

Kyle rubs his eyes that suddenly turn moist. “I don’t know what to say.”

“How about yes?”

“What?”

“As for the answer for my ‘real marriage’ proposal. I think I love you, Kyle.”

Kyle still can’t say anything, but he knows it won’t be much different for him when it comes to Gardner. He still worries, though. He takes Gardner by the arms and turns him to fully face him.
